🐝 Right now your body is doing something spectacular. Your cells, cellular tissue, and organs are all working together for a constant state of balance. They are doing incredible things like maintaining the ranges of pH levels, blood glucose, and the temperature of your body.
Whenever a variable presents itself, the body has a counter response for it. This amazing process is the miracle of homeostasis. Homeostasis is the sum of processes that help maintain our body against an ever-changing external environment. Your external environment can be any kind of abuse inflicted upon the body externally from the weather to dietary and lifestyle decisions, or injuries.
🐝 Let’s start with Negative Feedback. When you are out in the summer heat, your body sweats to keep you cool. When you get into your car, you blast the ac until you shiver. Shivering is your body’s response to getting too cold. Your muscles are heating you up as they contract. Your blood vesicles constrict so they can conserve heat. This type of homeostasis is called thermoregulation. And we’d all be pretty uncomfortable without it! The hypothalamus section of our brain receives signals from the skin and decides what to do next.
Thanks to that section of our brain, we basically have a built-in thermostat.
Your body uses negative feedback in maintaining your glucose, or blood sugar. When your glucose levels are too high, the insulin hormone is released. However, if your glucose levels are too low, a hormone called glucagon is released. This hormone communicates with the liver to release glucose into the blood. This is all done through negative feedback.
🐝 Positive Feedback is when instead of having a center response for a variable, the variable is actually intensified. One example is human birth. When a baby is being born, the body sends a hormone to increase pressure so that the baby can have a proper birth. The hormone is sent frantically until the baby is born. This is because the body is experiencing a positive feedback loop. More contractions will send out more hormones which will consequently induce more contractions.
Our feedback systems are vast and intricate. They have to be in working order or else complications arise. One example of dysfunction is type 1 diabetes. It’s a disorder that affects the pancreas, rendering it incapable of producing insulin. If that doesn’t happen, your body can’t get glucose to its cells. Diabetic people must provide insulin for themselves so that their negative feedback systems can maintain a healthy balance.
🌱 The endocannabinoid system or ECS is a relatively new concept. Not much was known about it until the 1970s. It exists mostly in our nervous, limbic, and immune systems. It helps provide balance in the human body through homeostasis. It helps the body digest food, relax and sleep, and protect itself.
👩⚕️ The institutional medical system has been slow to understand how it works and how it should be studied when considering the causes and treatment for diseases. Today the leaders of medical institutions and health care providers finally recognize how important the ECS is and that CBD can help regulate it therapeutically.
⭐️The body naturally creates cannabinoids to help with inflammation, unhealthy cell growth, and nerve dysfunction⭐️
🌱Cannabinoids are produced by the human body (endocannabinoids) and by the hemp plant (phytocannabinoids).

🌱 Parts of the ECS are associated with sleep. 💤 The parts of the brain 🧠 and body where the ECS is present are also the same areas that help with our ability to fall asleep and stay asleep 😴. Aside from the brain, ECS can be found in systems of the body that affect sleep such as the muscles, vascular system, the digestive system, and the lungs.
The ECS is associated with the body’s circadian rhythm which is vital to maintaining the sleeping and eating cycles of humans beings.
Just like how every person is unique, so is their ECS. Because of this, everyone’s ECS and the way in which they need to treat it will be different.
CBD and Homeostasis
The world was shocked when Dr. Sanjay Gupta changed his stance on supplementing cannabinoids stating: “We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the United States, and I apologize for my role in that.”
After all, he is a neurosurgeon and CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent. He currently serves as associate chief of the neurosurgery service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and as assistant professor of neurosurgery at the Emory University School of Medicine. He even served as one of fifteen White House Fellows from 1997 to 1998. In January 2011, he was named “one of the 10 most influential celebrities” by Forbes magazine.
👨⚕️ Dr. Gupta isn’t alone in his convictions of supporting CBD research. The Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse testified before the Senate saying that CBD appears to be a safe drug with no addictive effects. She went on to say that the preliminary data suggests that it may have therapeutic value for a wide range of medical conditions.
Modern research shows that CBD influences many conditions and bodily functions like inflammation, autoimmune disease, energy regulation, appetite, neuropathic pain, reproductive function, appetite, depression, anxiety, and cancer.
🐝 CBD studies and research are showing great promise to be an aid for those suffering from constant pain and inflammation. It's starting to become a vastly popular choice for those looking for alternatives to using NSAIDs, which can wreak havoc upon the very organs they are meant to treat.
👩⚕️ 🥼 A small double-blind study was conducted to observe the effects of CBD on individuals suffering from stress. The participants reported a decrease in anxiety and brain scans were performed showing that the circulation patterns in the brain were consistent with the effects of an anti-anxiety agent.
Similar studies are showing CBD has the potential to decrease stress levels as well as decrease heart rate and blood pressure.

Celiac disease affects 1 in 141 people in America according to the Mayo Clinic. In a study, it is shown that CBD has potential benefits for immune system related conditions, as CBD works with CB2 receptors in the gut.
Cannabidiol (CBD)reduces autoimmune attacks in the small intestine.
For patients of MS, the antispasmodic properties of CBD can sometimes help reduce the muscle spasms associated with it. One study found that CBD significantly reduced muscle stiffness and spasticity twice as much as compared to the placebo.

A common symptom of certain autoimmune diseases is dry skin and rashes. CBD is showing it can be beneficial in moisturizing the skin through the adjustment of oil production within the endocannabinoid system.
CBD can affect so many bodily processes without inducing side effects. This is because of our biochemistry, our naturally occurring cannabinoid receptors all over our body, and our ECS and how it interacts with CBD.
Today, doctors believe that many suffer from an endocannabinoid imbalance known as clinical endocannabinoid deficiency or CED. Those suffering from CED can benefit from supplementing with CBD, or hemp oil. CBD is the most abundant cannabinoid found in hemp, a crop that the Federal Government allowed individual states to legalize with the 2018 Farm Bill. CBD from hemp is legal in all 50 states. It won't get you high, it is legal, and nonaddictive.
