Composite Cylinders Advanced is the first financial venture in the world where the latest technologies in the financial sector are combined with one of the most demanded products in the world market, such as type 4 industrial cylinders for CNG, LPG and industrial gases through the use of modern composite materials.

Problem

Changing climates and their ecology represent new obstacles to the functioning of transport fuel systems. The most cost-effective solution for today's scientific and technological development requires the use of hybrid engines. Cylinders containing compressed natural gas or compressed hydrogen are used as auxiliary fuels to meet ecological requirements.

The annual production volume of cylinders for compressed natural gas (CNG) worldwide is approximately 10 m. Of these approximately 100,000 are composite cylinders for Type 4 CNG, most of which are manufactured by the monopoly supplier Hexagon.

However, demand is not limited to the transport segment. The general population also uses gas to cook and heat their homes. LPG's 70 million cylinders are manufactured annually worldwide, of which approximately 1.5 million are LPG Type 4 composite cylinders, manufactured primarily by Time Technoplast and Hexagon alone.

The construction of Type 4 composite cylinders resulted from the problems of heavy weight, unsafe use and corrosion of these metal cylinders caused by hydrogen and hydrocarbons. But the current generation of Type 4 cylinders in which they are sold today has three main shortcomings:

  • are very expensive compared to metal cylinders;
  • high gas permeability
  • and its operating temperature range is limited.

Solution

CCA's innovative manufacturing technology for type 4 composite cylinders makes it possible to eliminate current design deficits.

We have experience in the development of uniquely formulated polymers to produce cylinders, achieving a new level of gas permeability to ISO 11119-3. On the other hand, our innovations have doubled the operating temperature limits.

This manufacturing process allows us to significantly reduce the cost of type 4 composite cylinders, and potentially halve the costs paid for analogues produced by Hexagon and Time Technoplast.

Objective.

The main objective of the project is to raise funds to manufacture high and low pressure cylinders in the Czech Republic in accordance with ECE standards R110:2013, ISO 11439, ADR / RID: 2013, ISO 11119-3 using high strength carbon fibres and advanced polymeric materials.
The logic of the project is the development and creation of the production of ultralight composite gas cylinders of type 4, which surpass the pre-existing analogues in terms of technical parameters, which are competitive in terms of cost and technology for assembly in batch production.
The goal to be achieved is 5 million US dollars for the manufacture of modern and innovative type 4 cylinders for CNG, LPG and industrial gases; manufacture and marketing of type 4 high-tech composite cylinders.

The use of very expensive technologies makes the price of type 4 cylinders very high. This significantly reduces their interest in consumers. We have a team that has developed a unique technology that has allowed us to offer high quality cylinders at a low cost, which represents a "revolution" in the world of composite cylinders.

Structure of the market

Today, the replacement of heavy steel cylinders (more than 90% of the market) that are susceptible to corrosion by means of the lightweight, break-proof compound type 4 consisting of carbon fibre/glass fibre and modern polymers (1-2% of the market) is increasingly being reinforced.

Benefits of type 4 cylinders:

  • Lighter weight (comfort, large capacity, possibility of ceiling mounting);
  • It is not destroyed in the event of a gas explosion;
  • Lower maintenance costs;
  • No Corrosion.

Compared to analog cylinders, these cylinders have the advantages of being advanced composite cylinders:

  • Reduced production price (euro/l);
  • Lighter weight compared to most analogues (l/kg);
  • Low gas permeability of the cylinder (liner);
  • Emptying before refuelling with gas;
  • High cylinder filling speed.

The main trends

These elements have contributed to the development of the market for motor fuels:

  • Greater availability and lower cost of natural gas;
  • Significant savings in the cost of fuel using compressed natural gas, especially for the truck fleet;
  • Significant savings in the distribution of natural gas to remote regions;
  • Reducing emissions of CO2, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and aerosols.
