Indian Competitive Commission (CCI) has imposed a fine of Rs. 136 crores on search engine Google. CCI has imposed this fine on Google for online search for unfair business practices in the Indian market. Significantly, CCI is a regulatory body of India, which aims to promote clean competition in the country.
CCI passed this order while taking action on the complaint which was registered in the year 2012. The regulator said that the penalty is being imposed on Google to "violate anti-trust conduct". Globally, this is one of the rare cases where Google is being penalized for using unfair business practices.
CCI has said in its order that Google has been found guilty of bias in search and by doing so, it has harmed users as well as its competitors. The commission has said that Google will have to deposit the penalty amount within 60 days. It was alleged on Google that he was taking the wrong advantage of its effective market position in the online search market through the intervention of search and discrimination in search.
