A mixed media drawing of my face entitled, "Synergy".

Steemph-Cebu posted and held a contest 5 days ago, which enable steemian artists especially to the cebuanos to enhace their skills, gain more confidence and to win sbd's as well.

As a cebuano artist and steemian, I am thankful to have steemph.cebu's Art guide here in steemit for I've always been dreaming of participating in art contests not just to win but also to learn and now though Im still new to this platform, I decided to try my luck here :)

So here's my entry:

Synergy, 2018, Pencil, Coloured pencils, Ballpoint pen, Watercolor on paper 6 x 8 inches.

As you can see in my drawing, I divided my face into 4 parts which the appearances were distinct from eachother. One for the pencil, One for the coloured pencils, the other for the ballpoint and the last part for the watercolor.

Each side depicts roles to play in the totality of the art piece with respect to the medium used.

This part resembles my personality of dullness, plainness and straight-forward but only those appreciators can see the beauty in it.

This shows the colorful side of me though there's a touch of simplicity.

This part depicts the logical, complicated side of me, the "need to be understood"-personality. But once solved, an intimate relationship between me and the one who sees the beauty in it will follow.

this shows the artist side of me, the personality which a lot of people likes.

Why synergy?

Synergy means the unity or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. So, with the definition itself and what my drawing shows, it means that me as a whole is synergy, In a sense that all of my distinct parts to complete me as a human has a great effect if combined altogether rather than just the sum of each part.

Thus, every part of my drawing is essential. Despite of the diversified parts, but those four parts make me up as a whole.

So here's a step-by-step process on how my drawing was made

1. Preparation of Materials to be used.

Pencil, eraser and a bondpaper

Coloured Pencils

Ballpoint pen

Watercolor and brushes

2. Light sketching

In this part I draw first an oval-like figure which resembles my face and then I stroked some lines accross the face to divide the figure into four parts.

3. Light sketching II

I then added some of my features whichbare the eyes and the nose.
Note: The stroke of the pencil must be light and soft so that it would be much easier to erase if mistakes occur.

4. The first part (top-left)

I just used pencil for this part. A pencil produce realistic outcomes since it's stroke can be easily spread for shading. I draw first the eye for its where the emotion comes from.

5. The second part (top-right)

In this part, I used different medium which is a colored pencil. A coloured pencil is much different from a normal pencil. Literally, from its color but you cannot spread its stroke unlike a normal pencil.
The main colors I used: peach, brown, black and red

I added more details and then proceed to the next part.

6. The third part (bottom-left)

I used ballpoint pen in this part. Using a ballpoint isn't easy unlike the other media . It needs patience and discipline because one small mistake and your artwork is ruined. So I had a hard time making the third part.
note: I only used 1 stroke so that it won't be messy since ballpoint is a complicated medium to use.

7. The last part (bottom-right)

In this part, I used watercolor as my main medium in which a pigment or coloring matter is mixed with water to create different shades of color. Im still experimenting by the way lol
Main colors used: peach, brown, black, blue
