The more extraordinary a person, the more likely they are to have extraordinary flaws.

I think it is ridiculous to judge celebrities on anything other than what was extraordinary about them that made them famous. It's also stupid to believe that extraordinary people don't or shouldn't have flaws. The more extraordinary a person, the more likely they are to have extraordinary flaws. If you want an extraordinary world, you have to be ready for that. As the old Roman saying goes, all heroes have feet of clay. If we got rid of every person from history that had an awful flaw, we'd probably still be living in grass huts on the plains of central Africa or be extinct by now.

The only people that I think should be criticized for character flaws are the people who made their reputation on being exceptionally virtuous and who prescribe or demand virtue from others. Even then, hypocrisy is sometimes forgivable if their central message was that corruption and temptation are dangerous and everybody is vulnerable to it.

Similarly, it's also ridiculous to use celebrities as a source of authority on moral or political issues. Just because one of your favorite people lines up behind a political cause doesn't mean that the political cause is any more credible than it was beforehand. They are just one person, and in many ways should be doubted more than the general population because they come from a pool of weird people that often have conflicts of interest or obsessive foci that put them out of touch with general reality.

Finally, if you pay close attention and check the facts often, you will find that the sins of the celebrity that the media has turned against are far more mild or even non-existent than the accusations. The press and rumors sensationalize and lie about things to make for a better story and to give the sensation of moral clarity. It's much easier to label a person as either good or bad rather than as a person that has a mixture of substantial merits and dubious flaws. People hate confusion and love taking sides. They often seek out things that will confirm their current feelings. Once somebody falls out of favor, you can be sure that people will lie about them and predators will take advantage of their weakened position.
