In today's daily celestial challenge initiated @sirknight, the theme is the sun!!lets take a look at;
LAYERS OF THE SUN

  1. The Core:

  • Its the innermost layer
  • The temperature of the core can reach nearly 15million kelvins I.e 27million degrees Fahrenheit.
  1. Photosphere:
    images(4).jpg

  • This is the layer that emits sunlight
  • Temperature nearly 6000 kelvins
  • There are some layers away from the photosphere, we can't see because of its hotness(the hotter gas is the more transparent it will be)
  1. Chromosphere:
    images(5).jpg

*It has a temperature of nearly 7000kelvins,which is about 1000 kelvins hotter than the photosphere.
*The red circle around the outside of the sun is the Chromosphere.
  • We can't see it with our naked eye
  • The red coloring is caused by abundant hydrogen.
  1. The Corona:
    images(7).jpg

*It is the outermost layer of the sun
  • Its only visible during the eclipses
  • Its a low density cloud of plasma
  • It ranges from 1million to 3million kelvins nearly 2 to 5 million degrees Fahrenheit.
  • It can be very hot but not as much as the core but more than the Chromosphere and photosphere.
*That is why its not visible, because the hotter the gasses the less visible it is.
  1. Sunspots:
    images(8).jpg

*There are dark spots on the photosphere
*They are cooler than the other parts of the photosphere
  • Around 4500 thousand Kelvins ,about 50,100thousand kelvins lesser than the photosphere
*That is why it looks dark.
*They increase and decrease in number and can last 11years.
