Hey guys, welcome once again to my blog for another entry to #celestialchallenge initiated by @sirknight. Today we talk structures.
The Golden Gate bridge is one of the most iconic structures in the United States...and even more so for San Franciso. The Bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County.
Construction started in April 19, 1933 and ended in May 27, 1937. It has been declared as one of the wonders of the modern world by the American Society of Civil Engineers and is definitely the most photographed bridge ever.
This bridge covers a distance of 2.7km (8,981ft). It used to be the longest suspension bridge until 1964 when it was dethroned by the Akashi Kaikyo bridge...The initial plan was to paint the bridge black, the primer used to prepare the bridge for painting was orange in color and it so turned out that the orange color was great for visibility in foggy conditions.....so it stuck. The color is called "International Orange".
On a not-so-jolly note the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the top suicide locations in the world, with a death toll of about 1,500...May their soul rest in peace....
