Hello Distinquished Steemians, happy weekend to you all. The Theme of today's contest is Agriculture, so I am writing on Cattle Rearing or Farming.

CATTLE REARING

Cattle rearing is an aspect of farming that is known as Animal Husbandry. In fact it is one of the most lucrative farming businesses all over the world. They are two major ways of rearing cattles: The Ranching and Nomadic systems.

The ranching system is where the Cattles are kept in a Ranch ( fenced place) where there are being feed and taken care off medically. Advantages of this system are so enumerable, amongst which are that the cattles are saved the problems of wandering about searching for food. They are feed as at when hungry, as a result they grows very big, healthy and robust.

Since they are in a Ranch, they are saved from the evil hands of cattle rustlers who will like to steal them. They are also saved from bites of dangerous snakes and other insects that could bite them to death.

The second system is Nomadic cattle rearing. This is common amongst the developing countries, mostly in Africa. It is a system were cattles are allowed to rom around the bushes, street and avenues in search of green pastures. They are led by one or two persons as their guides. ( The live pictures above tells the story more).

The disadvantages of this system are that the cattles will be tired at the end of the day, after walking for long distance of kilo-meters . Consequences of this, is that they will not be healthy and robust as the ones in the Ranches.

They could also be attacked by Cattle rustlers. The dangers of snakes and other harmful insects biting them is very high. Above all, the Herdsmen often led the cattles into peoples' farmlands to feed on their hard earn crops. This often sparks off clashes between Herdsmen and Farmers as it is the case in Nigeria today.

Finally, my take is that Ranching cattles is better than Nomadic rearing of cattles. ( As usual I leave you with nice photographs of ranched and nomadic cattles.) Now that you have watched the pictures of Ranched and Nomadic cattles, can you now judge which of the cattles are more healthier and robust. Even the quality of the milk produced are not comparable.
