DailyCelestialChallenge Monday-Darkness: " The ninth plague leaves Egypt in darkness "

in celestialchallenge •  7 years ago  (edited)

In ancient Egypt, the sun was represented by a god called Ra. The Egyptians considered him the god of the sky, the sun and the origin of life. Their beliefs affirmed that, every night, Ra fought with the serpent Apophis and, when overcoming it, the light defeated the darkness and a new day began.

The ninth plague, the penultimate manifestation of God's power before Pharaoh let the Hebrew people leave, consisted of three days of utter darkness in all of Egypt, as the Bible describes it: "The Lord said to Moses: Stretch out your hand towards heaven, so that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, so much so that anyone will feel it.

And Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness over all the land of Egypt, for three days. No one saw his neighbor, nor did anyone rise from his place in three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings "(Exodus 10: 21-23).

The purpose of the God of Israel with this new plague was to demonstrate His Power before one of the most adored and, supposedly powerful divinities, of Egyptian mythology. The pharaohs considered themselves "sons of Ra", and even their reincarnations, so staying three days in complete darkness was a blow to the beliefs of the people.

Have a wonderful day.
