Celestial Challenge Thursday - FORCES OF NATURE

I was in my 1st grader way back 1984 when Typhoon Undang hit the Philippines. In my recollection, we were at school together with my mom (she was 6th grader teacher that time) while cuddling sis @jovema who was 2 year old and other teachers kept on monitoring and listening the strong whistling of the wind outside when suddenly we heard a horrifying sound at the back area of our school.

The backstage wall was collapsed. Everyone got scared, kept things in our body and waiting for the next thing to happen. Then, again we heard some crack sound. It is already the school building where all of us standing is about to collapse. Everyone ran out of the building, got wet because of the heavy rain.

There outside we tried ourselves to escape or not to hit by the pieces of roof which flown by the strong wind and even branches of trees. Each one ran and tried to look for a safer place. Good thing we found a concrete house and took rest for few hours.

The next day this was the report we heard. Typhoon Undang destroyed more or less 350,000 homes and damaged. There were 800 killed and around hundreds are missing. President Marcos declared the state of emergency to those affected in the Visayas Region like Aklan, Antique (our province), Capiz, Iloilo, Tacloban and Samar. Relief goods, clothes and medicines were distributed to affected areas especially foods because there were areas that residents days have not eaten.
