HOW HOMESTEADING HELPED ME CUT MY SPENDING!

Let's talk about homestead in agriculture today!
Thanks to @sirknight for the initiation of this #celestialchallenge where we get to appreciate and talk about agriculture.

Practicing homesteading is something really interesting so I've always seen while going through @papa-pepper's posts on homestead.
As a young homesteader, I have never really checked to see how homesteading affected my spending as regards food. It really didn't occur to me as I never really had issues as to what to eat throughout the year 2017.
This changed a little in December same year as yuletide drew closer. Read along!

Having to accommodate visitors who were family, I had to really make sure they ate what they were used to! My mum made it easy for me by always helping with the cooking, I did the dishing.
They were going to stay just one week which was till the eve of Christmas!

Four days after they came, it just suddenly occurred to me that three out of my chickens had been killed!.... I had to go talk to my mum as the rate was seeming really fast. Did you forget that chicken is their favorite? is what I got from her!... Mehn!! I was thinking, was it because they saw I had chickens this time or did five persons just develop such great love for eating chickens in 11months? It was scary! my vegetables were on the run too!

After the forth chicken, I really was uncomfortable. I was now thinking of the cost of breeding the chickens.. my vegetables would grow up eventually.
As I thought, I decided to do a check and balance comparing 2016's spending when they came where I had to buy the chickens to now(2017) that I bred them. I was amazed!

I am not much of an economist but here was my analysis!
A 12weeks old chicken of same size cost #4500 in 2016. I used 5 chickens for analysis.

2016 December
No of chickens5
Cost of chickens#4500/chicken5 x 4500 = #22500

2017 December
No of chickens5
Cost of four weeks old chicks700/chick5 x 700 = #3500
Cost of feed for remaining 8weeks#3800/bag..Two and half bags used2.5 x 3800 = #9500
Total#13000

Definitely, from the analysis, you can see I didn't make a loss. I was able to save up #9500.

Yes! there was a lot of work and you know that the mortality rate of chickens can be very high. I solved that by buying chicks from my school's farm. The personnel there pretty know these things and they give the required vaccines! They also told me drugs to administer too and how to go about it.

Imagine doing this on a larger scale.

So, homesteading is really profitable. The good thing is that you spend little for setup using your yard!

As @papa-pepper would always do. Here is my proof!

I'll sure try homesteading!
It seems to save a lot of money

Wow, amazing post bro

Excellent homesteading post. Homestead saves cost and boost overall food production

Wow.
Had this idea once but seeing how feasible it is, i will definitely try it

Homesteading is definitely one way to learn how to budget, make use of what you have and re-use items. It's not just about the money savings, but also a lifestyle that many have embraced lately.

Yeah. Exactly! I even now own a livestock farm. Homestead is the way to go!

I used to have chickens and need to do that again. Nothing like having the rooster wake you up, gathering fresh eggs daily... I so miss them!

You bet! Livestock farming is really amazing. My goats are ever ready to wake me up in the mornings for food!! Haha.. you just get to love the little stress later on!!

What happened though? Hope the chickens didnt die @goldendawne?

Creative post mate
Homesteading saves cost alot
Plus I don't like frozen chickens at all

You have a point there. Homestead can help reduce the sale of frozen chicken which isnt really healthy.

Greetings friend you have my vote I hope yours, thanks
