CEMETERY SUNDAY

Back at the Jamesport cemetery, looking to see any Prickly Pear cactus flowers. A good part of the small cemetery is covered in Prickly Pears.

It's a bit early so no flowers. But there may not be many when they are ready to bloom because it looks like a lawnmower prevents that.

Most of the pads are small and close to the ground. The best chance of flowers would be near the tombstones where the lawnmower can't reach.

While we're here lets look at some of these old stones.

Here's an odd one with no date. It my be buried down below. Many stones are broken others are falling apart and unreadable. Time brings everything back to dust.

This is the most prominent one, that sits on the high spot in the middle of the cemetery. It carries the name of Tutthill. Name of one of the first settlers on Long Islands North Fork.

Another Tuthill stone tipping a might bit. Could it have something to do with being so close to restaurant/bar next door?

The cemetery has many old burials going back to the 1700's and also more recent ones. But the newer ones are very rare.

That's some pretty old tombstones some pretty spooky would not want to be walking through there at night time bare foot...lol :)

It's right on main street, you can run right next door and get a drink if you see a spook :-)

Haha...lol :)

These are great!

Thanks @nikv

That is an impressively spooky graveyard even in daylight - it seems like you have to blaze your own trail through it with no defined paths.

Seeing the designs on the old grave stones is always interesting, and it makes you think about who the person was that they commemorate.

History of the people that have come before us fascinates me. We are where we are because of them. How they lived in some ways has determined our destiny's.
