Bird of Paradise. Who would have thought a flower with a very beautiful English name could be dangerous. Especially if you have a pet, be careful yes. Do not let your pet eat this one flower. Moreover dog yes.

If that happens, the possibility of your pet, especially dogs, will have diarrhea, burning tongue, vomiting or excessive salivation.

The poison of Bird of Paradise contains hydrocyanic acid which can lead to toxicity in some plants. If consumed continuously will be a deadly poison for pets.
So if your mother likes to plant this flower, you better not allow pets to approach her.
