Censorship and Legislating Behavior

I once worked with a man who had an assistant with a baby who was nursing. This woman felt no reason to cover herself while nursing. Her actions caused offense in some situations. Did she have an obligation to change for social reasons?

Why do seatbelt laws exist? Such laws protect you from yourself only.

The world is a dangerous place. Should children be protected? Should I be protected from myself?

Legislation and censorship exist to keep children protected from exposure to psychological abuse by exposure to adult violence or exposure to mature sexual situations. Is ignorance ever productive.

Legislation and censorship also exists to keep the public ignorant of social problems. If it can be proven that crime is worse since women were given the right to vote, should this require social regress?

Is ignorance of the facts of social behavior ever justified?

It seems that children need constant supervision until their early teenage years. Since this is impossible to legislate, we legislate behavior and censor entertainment.

Of course this does not include animation of violence in video games. What could possibly go wrong with exposure to violence in the life of a young child?
