How Steem can be feared by Authoritarian regimes?

in censorship •  7 years ago

Being a fully decentralized platform makes Steem one of the most feared platforms by authoritarian regimes that want to crack down on dissent and activists. As Steem grows and eventually is used by bloggers around the world we may see countries such as Russia and China work hard to censor content from Steem. Due to Steem running on the blockchain this can make censorship among these authoritarian governments nearly impossible unless if they block the entire internet which won't be so great for them. With internet giants such as Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu, China will most likely never block the internet. As Facebook, Google, and Twitter are in a crackdown in many repressive regimes, we will eventually see more activists turn to blockchain alternatives such as Steem since these platforms are not going to be censored and they can express their viewpoints in an anonymous and open way.

With Iran and Russia now censoring Telegram due to the fact that many people are using Telegram to have their own Telegram Channels to criticize various governments and speak freely, I think it is about time we will see more people shift to Steemit. Steemit may be the platform that will be famous among low-quality bloggers just looking for extra money and Blockchain and cryptocurrency fans. But as governments around the world begin to censor more centralized platforms for blocking activists and opposition we can see Blockchain platforms become the true alternatives for free speech and freedom of expression. Soon the governments of Iran, China, Russia, Turkey, and Syria will be feared by the blockchain and the rise of activists using blockchain-based platforms knowing that these governments can't censor blockchain platforms.
