Facebook's struggle against reality: banning white nationalism!

in censorship •  6 years ago

After banning ‘white supremacy’ ideology, Facebook decided ‘white nationalism’ and ‘white separatism’ will no longer be permitted on its platform. What it amounts to is people will no longer be allowed to post statements like “I am a proud white nationalist”, even if the user doesn’t express any direct hatred against other races or religions. If you take any sort of pride in being white, it is implied you’d rather not have people of different origins settling in your country. For Americans, this obviously refers to expressing opposition to people of color and Latin-American immigrants settling in the US. For Europeans, it means they will no longer be allowed to complain about Muslim immigration or dare to moan about the good old days when streets were safer and there were no no-go areas.
Facebook’s latest ban doesn’t say anything about expressing black pride ideas or saying the Koran is better than the Bible, such ideas area allowed as white people are fair game.

While the policy of curbing white views is not new, what I find absolutely preposterous is that people trying to upload unorthodox views will be automatically redirected to ‘Life After Hate', an organization that helps people leave racist hate groups’. Even if you’re not in any hate group. Maybe you’re just pissed about a loud group of immigrants your wife was scared of on the way home. Or maybe you were enraged by the latest case of a Muslim rapist of a teenager white girl. Only last week one such rapist walked free by claiming he might have been under 14 at the time of the crime. Under FB laws, reacting to such news is not justified moral indignation, but a sign you’re a deranged hater who urgently needs help from the above mentioned organization.

I don’t know if this latest move is aimed at changing mentalities or simply at banning people from finding others who share similar views. Make you doubt yourself, make you feel alone and powerless. ’What’s the point of saying there’s too many immigrants when I’m the only one who says it?’
For the 21st century digital generation it might work, short-time at least, but ultimately it’s a struggle against reality, as Monty Python would put it. I don’t think we’re at that stage where the acceptable online views can obscure the realities surrounding us. You might not be able to say it on FB, but you will be seething to discover, for instance, young students at your old university no longer study white authors or white history.

Not being allowed to talk about things doesn’t change anything in the real world, a fact Zuckerberg and his pals might be ignoring. I was born before the Internet and lived in a communist world were people were not allowed to share their feelings, their anger, which did make everybody feel alone, any opposition to the system seemed futile. In the end, all it took was one spark to ignite a revolution. Zuckerberg and all those currently weaving the narrative we live in should learn from that.
P.S. - I know many of you no longer use FB, but this is not about you. It's about the billion people that are on FB. Their vote weighs just as much as yours.

I have a hard time getting outraged about the Facebook/YouTube etc censorship. I don't understand why people who don't fit the views demanded on those platforms even want to be on them. I believe it is an addiction as real as drugs or food. I gave up the Facebook, and went back to how things used to be. If a family member needs to tell me something, they can call if they have my number or call a family member who does have it, lol.

So, will they ban Israeli Supporters, too?
