TX and FL population growth can be attributed to better business climate and economic policy.

I know some people will deny that population gains in TX and FL have anything to do with economic policy. But TX and FL don't just have better business climates overall; they're famous for having them, so people actually know that they are good options. Plus, people like warm sunny weather. These are the two reasons why Indiana, for example, doesn't get all that growth.

Well-to-do people who feel overtaxed have the option leave a state. Business who feel that taxes or regulations are too onerous have the option to leave. Average folks who feel they're struggling to afford housing can leave.

Note I said "feel." Don't bother with arguments about how their feelings are not objectively accurate. That's entirely irrelevant. People will act on how they feel, whether their feelings are appropriate or not.

The public's feelings are a constraint on the effectiveness of public policy, even when they're not an effective constraint on the policymakers themselves.

And note that this movement suggests there are a lot of people who care more about economic issues than social issues. I wish there was a state growing by leaps and bounds by promoting economic growth and personal liberty, not being reactionary in the culture wars. But so far there isn't.
