Ceramics Studio! + researching Peter Voulkos, William J Obrien, and Jennefer Hoffman

Every Tuesday I go to a ceramics studio to make art out of clay. There are about 12 people in my class.

The first 4 weeks are hand-building and the second 4 weeks are throwing on the wheel. One day a week for 8 weeks where they provide all the materials for $175.00 is a great deal.

I have made 4 pots so far. Pictures soon to come. These are just pictures of the studio.

We went in there on Saturday to get some extra work done and the lady filling in as the teacher gave me a little list of ceramicists who's work I should look at.

"So I rarely use tools. They all begin with slabs. and my hands. When I first started I had no plan, each piece was a spontaneous creation made very quickly. However just recently and with what I feel is a real development of my own language with the clay, I do sometimes think ahead of time of what the piece is about. but it is never an exact replication. The piece is usually based on a feeling or an insight or a sensation and it takes shape as I begin. The piece is “complete” based on instinct I guess and when I think it visually is balanced and makes sense. but I never know when that may be exactly. Sometimes I start something and it takes a very different turn within the process of the construction." - https://www.ravelinmagazine.com/posts/sculptures-jennefer-hoffmann/
