As we know every beginning must has an end and what will come has already come. We will in the next few minutes witness the closing ceremony of the 2017 Batch B Stream 1, NYSC Orientation. Today it's exactly 3 weeks in Orientation Camp here in Potiskum, Yobe state since we are called up for a mandatory 1 service year post graduation to National Youth Youth Service Corps.

Today, after the closing ceremony, we are going to be posted to our various place of primary assignments (PPAs) where we will selflessly serve our dear fatherland for the rest of the service year of 2017 Batch B, Stream 1.

The history of the National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) is dated back to 1970s after Nigeria suffered from
the terrible Civil war. This civil war lasted about four years and it took Nigeria to a brim of division engineered by one secessionist ethnic group which tried to divide the land according to tribes and ethnic groups. But the effort of the secessionists failed in breaking the country into ethnic lands. The fact that Nigeria is a multi-ethnic country which comprises over 3 hundred ethnic groups was many times prone to inter-ethinc conflicts that have been engulfing hundreds of lives each year and loss of properties worth millions of Naira.
So, NYSC is a human scheme created by the then Nigerian military regime with the good intention of bringing these hundreds of tribe close together to understand our socio-cultural differences so we may live in peace and harmony with one another.
And really this scheme has been paying for itself for decades in uniting Nigerian tribes and ethnic groups together.

We all have our different mother tongue but for the purpose of communication we all speak English and has been our lingwa franca since colonial era.

Today we all one, and there's one Nigeria!
