Political information in the press, television, radio, internet ... is usually overwhelming. It is very difficult to clarify with so much data, so many debates, so many polemics, so much ideology, so many conflicts and power struggles ...
However, the world always offers an image and we must know what to do. The position "it's all very complicated, you can not do anything" is inevitable. We have all adopted it on occasion. But deep down we know that it is false. Something can always be done - sometimes very little, it is true - because it is impossible for the capacity of initiative of the human being to be completely annulled.
And in this sense, the first thing is to be as informed as possible. That is within reach of almost everyone.
Therefore, it is necessary to have a vision that is as simple and clear as possible of the current situation, but that covers the entire planet, because it is becoming increasingly evident that the problems belong to everyone. Although they affect us in different degrees depending on where we live, the interconnection is complete.
So, let's try to clarify the vision and order the information that comes to us from different points of the planet.
Let's do a synthesis exercise and divide the world into four large areas according to two parameters: the degree of social stability and the degree of political freedom.
🔴 Zone 1. Places in the world where there is hunger and wars
Situation ➡ Stability and freedom are non-existent.
Objective ➡ Eradicate these pests.
Actions ➡ These pests could be eradicated relatively quickly through joint action by the three main powers, China, the United States and Russia. The first, China, has already begun to act and has made numerous investments in Africa to expand its field of commercial action. Trade has always been a civilizing and stabilizing factor. As a classic principle of international politics says, "nations that trade do not war." Russia's alliance with China is very strong. Therefore, the United States should accept this situation. It can not face a Chinese-Russian alliance. It would be desirable to join this initiative. But maybe it's enough that it does not interfere ...
🔴 Zone 2. Places in the world where there is misery and violence
Situation ➡ Stability and freedom are very poor.
Objective ➡ Build civilized societies.
Actions ➡ Encourage commercial relations and cultural diffusion through joint action from the East and the West, through the AIIB and the IMF, which are the two institutions with the capacity to influence commercial and financial activities with global reach. This promising initiative is being driven by the plan known by its acronym OBOR (One Bealt, One Road) through which China intends to head a colossal global investment program never seen in history.
🔵 Zone 3. Places in the world where there are civilized societies
Situation ➡ It is where the majority of the population of the planet lives. Although there is a remarkable degree of social stability, in most countries in this area the degree of political freedom is very much improved. Even many European countries could be framed in this category in which political freedom is limited by the enormous control of power held by political parties. Partitocracy is a system that allows a plurality but very limited because it blocks the freedom of citizens to choose and be elected.
Objective ➡ Consolidate social stability while advancing the degree of political freedom.
Actions ➡ Through internal civil movements, stimulate the ideological plurality in the political debate so that the population sees the need for the citizens (and not the political parties) to choose the deputies (legislative power) and the ruler (power executive). Only then there is democracy.
🔵 Zone 4. Places in the world where there is political freedom
Situation ➡ There is social stability and political freedom. The referents are the United States and France, countries in which there is freedom to choose and be elected, that is, where citizens are the ones who elect the deputies and the ruler. Therefore, there is a separation between the legislative branch and the executive branch. To a lesser extent, the United Kingdom is also in this category, where the deputies are elected by the citizens, although the ruler is not. Therefore, in the United Kingdom there is no separation of powers, but citizens are represented in parliament.
Objective ➡ Modernize democracy.
Actions ➡ Through internal civil movements, modernize democracy in two main points. (1) Take advantage of the advancement of new technologies to establish mechanisms that allow citizens to participate directly in the vote of the laws, that is, allow citizens to decide if they want to be represented or exercise their right to participate directly in the voting of the laws. (2) Be aware that it is not enough to be able to elect the deputies and the president through elections. It is also necessary that citizens can dismiss both the deputies and the ruler from their work. If the majority of votes has given them that position, the majority of votes must also be able to remove them from office.
Priorities for the 21st century 🌎 🌍 🌏
After conducting this brief examination of the global political situation, we can see that three well-defined priorities emerge.
🤝 First - That there is no place in the world where there is hunger and wars. (Zone 1) Impossible? It was not for European countries, therefore it is possible for any country.
🤝 Second - That there is no place in the world where there is misery and violence. (Zone 2) Impossible? Maybe, but it will be because of lack of will, not because of lack of means that make it possible.
🤝 Third - That there are more and more countries in zone 4 and less in zone 3. Perfectly possible.
In the twentieth century something was achieved in Europe that would have been unthinkable for a European who lived during the nineteenth century: end the wars between Germans and French, English and Spanish, French and English, etc ... that had been the usual pattern in the previous centuries.
It is very important to keep in mind that what was utopian for a European of the 19th century is real for a European of the 21st century. And the verification of this fact has its application anywhere in the planet, whatever their situation.
🌐 Conclusion
This article is just a general and very brief outline about the tasks that have to be undertaken to improve the global political situation, and that could be summarized in four statements:
✅ • Where there is hunger and wars, eradicate those pests
✅ • Where there is misery and violence, build civilized societies
✅ • Where there are civilized societies, establish democracy
✅ • Where there is democracy, modernize it
It is impossible for the individual field of action to have a global reach, but it is possible for any person to have a clear and simple vision.
In this issue, we all have something to say because improving the lives of human beings on this planet (a) is possible and (b) it is the concern of each and every one of its inhabitants.
