For those who are thinking of travelling to Madrid, do not doubt to visit El Rastro on a Sunday morning!

Para aquellos que están pensando en viajar a Madrid, no dudéis en visitar El Rastro un domingo por la mañana!

El Rastro is an open-air market with more than 400 years of history in which both second-hand and new objects can be found. During the year 2000 was declared Cultural Patrimony of the Town of Madrid. You can always find any kind of curious gadget, cheap clothes (both second hand & new ones), video games, music, comics and any object you can imagine, all wrapped in a very lively atmosphere.

El Rastro es un mercadillo al aire libre con más de 400 años de historia en el que se pueden encontrar tanto objetos de segunda mano como objetos nuevos. Durante el año 2000 fue declarado Patrimonio Cultural de la Ciudad de Madrid. Siempre te puedes encontrar cualquier tipo de artilugio curioso, ropa usada muy barata, videojuegos, música y cualquier objeto que te puedas imaginar, todo ello envuelto en un ambiente muy animado.

The market is located on Ribera de Curtidores Street and there are hundreds of stalls.

El mercado se encuentra en la calle Ribera de Curtidores y hay cientos de puestos.

It’s very close to La Latina district, it has an incomparable charm. The stalls open every Sunday and holidays, so it is a perfect plan to go for a walk, buy something and you can end up in La Latina having some tapas at a local bar.

Muy cerca del barrio de la latina, tiene un encanto inigualable. Los puestos los ponen todos los domingos y festivos, con lo que es un plan perfecto para dar un paseo, comprar algo y acabar en la latina tomando unas tapas o en algún bar de la zona.

Being the busiest open-air market in Madrid has its disadvantages. Sometimes there are pickpockets and thieves, but this should not stop you from going. Just be careful with the bag and the wallet!

Eso sí, cuidado con el bolso y la cartera! Al ser el mercadillo más concurrido de Madrid, es dónde se pueden encontrar carteristas y ladrones, pero no por ello debéis dejar de ir.

To finalize this amazing day and to recover the energy consumed walking through all these alleys you must go to “El Capricho Extremeño”. This small bar specializes in toasts. There are a lot of types, each one more delicious than the previous. I specially recommend the octopus one.
