AI is already around

What is that one word that comes to your mind when you see a self driving car or a car that parks by itself. You must be thinking that it is magic but it is not so. It is the work of Artificial Intelligence( AI)

AI is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence (NI) displayed by humans and other animals. That is any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of successfully achieving its goals. The term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving"

AI is getting Bigger and Better every day

Such is the need and impact of AI in our world that by the year 2030 AI and its allied businesses would become a $15.7 trillion industry.

AI Monopoly is bad

The major players who are at the forefront of AI development and usage are companies like Google Facebook,and Microsoft.
The high cost and complexity of AI projects create a high entry barrier. This means that AI is within the reach of a select few only.
It is a paradox that such a technology which can change the lives of so many people is controlled by a handful of individual companies.

Effect.AI Comes to the rescue

A paradigm shift from the centralized control environment is taking place thanks to Effect.AI
Effect.AI is taking a step by step approach to lower the entry barrier to the world of Artificial Intelligence.
For this to become a reality Effect.AI has created a 3 Phase process.

Phase I: Effect Mechanical Turk This is the creating of a AI based P2P environment where the developers can list their requirements and enlist the tasks that need to be performed to create data sets that can be used for running and testing the AI models and algorithms that the AI designers create.

The workers earn tokens as compensation for completing AI related tasks that the AI developers have created as per their requirements.

Phase 2: Effect Smart Market. Here the companies and developers can interact , buy and sell AI related services. They make use of the Effect Mechanical Turk to develop the services.

Phase 3: Effect Power
This phase aims to provide a decentralized, distributed computational platform that would be needed to run the deep learning frameworks.
The Effect decentralized compute engine is based on popular deep-learning networks like caffe, MXNet and Tensor flow. The Aim is to setup a system where the power is distributed in such a way that there is no weakness and all AI projects on the network run smoothly.

Effect.AI strives to create an AI platform that is resilient in dealing with outside influences and manipulation by third parties.

The network users can buy EFX tokens if they wish to.

The G-EFX tokens can be bought from the Galaxy poll but cannot be sold back to the pool. Instead the G-EFX tokens convert to the regular EFX tokens by spending them on the EFFECT.AI system.

A Use Case

Siddharth is a medical doctor working in the city hospital in INDIA. Every day Dr. Siddharth gets over a 1000 patients. Many of these patients come from far off places and are residents of rural places and have no medical facilities.
Coming to get treatment means losing a days wage because they use the entire day in commute, waiting in a line and then getting to spend only a few minutes with the doctor.
Dr. Siddharth wants to do something for the patients. He wants to use technology in taking healthcare to the rural masses.However he is a medical man with no knowledge as to how to use technology to solve this problem.

Dr. Siddharth Approaches the Effect Smart Marketplace where he interacts with AI developers and wants them to develop an AI based system that can deliver medical advice based on the patients condition. Best of all the mode of navigation would be voice based which the rural folks can access on their mobile phones. What would make this project stand out is that its users would be able to make use of vernacular languages to access and navigate this menu and get medical advice instantly.
Had Dr. Siddharth approached one of the leading AI providers in the industry they may not have been interested in such a small scale project besides the high price entry point would have made it prohibitive even for Dr.Siddharth to take the project forward.
What really excites Dr.Siddharth about this project is that he can introduce his patients to the Effect Mechanical Turk. Here while waiting for getting treatment his patients can record their voice samples on the Effect Mechanical Turk and in return get paid. The payments on Effect Mechanical Turk are around $9 per hour which is much higher then the daily wage earned by the rural folks. This effort helps to take the AI project forward and helps the rural people help gain additional income instead of losing money when they absent themselves from their daily jobs.
Once The AI system is in place. It is an effective method of getting people instant medical advice. People can access information related to first aid, What to do in case of Diarrhea or how to re-hydrate the patient. All this is vital information and can save lives.
Dr. Siddharthd's system becomes popular and soon he realizes that more and more people are taking to his system to get medical advice.
With increasing load he needs more computing power to feed his ever growing AI based system.
This is where Effect Power comes into play. It feeds Dr.Siddharth's AI project all the computing power that it needs.
Thus Dr.Siddharth has solved 3 major problems in his area. One of taking basic medical facilities to the masses and secondly he has generated a stream of income by introducing people to the Effect Mechanical Turk
Thirdly he has shown a way for non computer people to find solutions to common day problems using AI with reduced entry barrier and enhanced efficiency.

Nice article! It’s great to see this way to truly decentralize and fix the current situation with AI. But we also need to fix the problem of data centralization, as Google and Facebook own almost all of the data generated by people.
