Do looks matter? I'd say it DOES! Before you start judging me start calling me a superficial pig or whatever I urge you to read what I have to say before you go crazy on me in the comments section. It makes me feel guilty just by saying that looks DO matter but they say "honestly is the best policy." Here are my arguments why looks DO matter.
1- According to Wall Street Journal "attractive people are likely to earn an average of 3% to 4% more than a person with below-average looks. That adds up to $230,000 more over a lifetime for the typical good-looking person, Dr. Hamermesh estimates. Even an average-looking worker is likely to make $140,000 more over a lifetime than an ugly worker."
2- Attractive people charm interviewers, get hired faster, are more likely to make more sales and get more promotions.
3- It takes less effort for an attractive person to find a date. Men seek attractive women as mates because good looks
signal youth, health, and reproductive fitness. When was the last time you hear someone say "I am going to go find me an ugly and fat person to date"? I challenge you to find me one!
4- It's easier for an attractive person to make friends. People are automatically drawn to beautiful people. An attractive person stands out more compare to its counterpart. We are automatically drawn to things that are beautiful. This is why people prefer swimming in a nice clean pool vs. the sewer.
The point I am making here is that looks DO matter and it affects you in ways you may not even know! As you can see that looks can affect your job, dating, friendship and in many other ways. I know in life there are always exceptions this is why I want you to know the points I am making here are based on general acceptances NOT written in stone. I know the topic can be somewhat provocative, especially if you are on the opposite spectrum. So ladies and gentlemen; next time when you go for a job interview, dates, hanging out with friends or whatever it might be beneficial to keep what you've read here in mind :-) Do the best you can to be presentable so you don't have to wonder why you didn't get the interactions you were hoping for.
