Others can make their own judgements about your moderation (or lack thereof). If they don't like it, they can set up a rival forum moderated differently.

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

  • Disagreement on rewards
  • Fraud or plagiarism
  • Hate speech or trolling
  • Miscategorized content or spam
