Would be really useful to "Hide" spam comments in the same way as we can hide posts, and without flagging anything.

I've been flagging some posts recently, just to get them to collapse on chainBB - but I'm seeing more and more of a need for this. Flagging (and damaging someone's rewards/reputation) is just too harsh for this though. I'll plan on adding some sort of moderation to remove comments without the need to flag posts.

Thanks, sounds good.
To use a footballing analogy, we need a yellow card before administering a red card! The red card is then usually not necessary.

I've been giving a lot of thought towards whether we should just use flagging or if someone (moderators or perhaps OP?) should be able to remove content from their threads. I know in a lot of modern forum software the OP can actually moderate the thread itself, along with the moderators.
I've opened a github issue for tracking development, which links back to this thread for discussion.

Great! My feeling is that it would be good if the OPs can self-patrol as that helps mods.
So, it would be an OR function: if admin OR OP hides a comment, then it is hidden.
I think it will be very useful to have the ability to make such "non-reward" judgments.
Yes, it could lead to some using it for censorship, but then any commenter who feels strongly about that can open a new post - at that point, the OP of the original thread has no editorial control, only the admin has that with respect to the new post.
As everything is merely hidden rather than deleted, readers can always check what is being hidden - this in itself will lead to the admin having a reputation for good "cleaning up" or as a censor.
Thanks

I agree... helps control the Troll population.

Any opinion on whether these "moderated comments" should be completely invisible for just collapsed (like they currently are).

I'd like both options, but if I was to prefer one, I would choose collapsed. It allows some transparency with regards to what is being moderated.
If collapsed posts could be moved to the bottom of the page, that would be good too.

I sort of like them in-line in the conversation - since it lets you know where it occurred in the conversation.
Perhaps they need to be even more compact and take up less room.

I'd agree that inline retains the context, which is important to consider.

I was thinking of hiding my own posts when they are not anymore relevant but could be interesting as reference. So the mechanism that doesnt hide all the users post or harm reputation would work for me. Sorry for the double posting. Did not notice this thread.
