in chainbb •  8 years ago

Accidentally typeed in forum.chainbb.com and chrome gave me this warning

Gave me this text "Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from forum.chainbb.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

Automatically report details of possible security incidents to Google. Privacy policy"

Just thought I would report this! Probably nothing serious, and I assume the same people who run beta.chainbb..com also run forum.chainbb.com and this is an automated red flag just thought @jesta and @cryptoctopus might wanna see it?

Thank you again for your work on this life changing platform...really fromboottom of my heart and on behalf of all of us who have gained signifigant monetary gain here it really has changed ur lives, and I plan on spending a portion of future crypto fortune on helping to keep the platform maintained and new features added! thanks again! I stand upon the solders of giants here! Steemit team really are living gods

It's because the SSL certificate used on the site doesn't protect that subdomain (which doesn't exist).

beta.chainbb.com only for the time being.

i assumed it wasnt serious! thank you though this s the only way Im learning about all this,
so could this "problem" be "fixed" if we just created that subdomain or forum.chainbb.com and mabe i dunno used it to redirect to beta.chainbb.com or are u saving those subdomains for the subfoorum system like theyll be cannasteem.chainbb.com steem.chainbb.com and chainbb.chainbb.com and art.chainbb.com ? and so "forum" would maybe be one of tthe general forums? or noone opens a subforum titled "forum" so ya that could just be redirected to general

To do things like that you need a wildcard certificate (which has a cost associated to it). I'm using a free SSL cert for now, so I manually have to pick which subdomains to use. All part of being a beta product ;)

cool and while I have you here, can u explain to me why anyone cany create a steemit account why it has to go through steemit.com, is that because were alll USINg steemit.coms system? like if someone wante to make their own steem explorer, they could get their own account creation and wallets going i know abyone can geta steem wallet created but i guess the secret is how to link that to a posting key?

I just wanan make sure theres always a back up website to login your steemit accoount with to get into the steem blockchain to make and recieve payments ...i guess im also asking.....if steemit.com is down is there a way to spend our steem walllets?

Anyone can create a Steem account, but the reason no one else has really setup a site or way to do it is because you have to add STEEM to those new accounts to create them. Each account requires either an initial deposit or delegation of SP. Steemit.com does all of them for the most part because they're the ones sitting on millions of Steem and can afford to do it.

If steemit.com goes down, you'd still be able to use busy.org or chainbb to view the content and perform some actions, and you canalways use the cli_wallet or Vessel (the desktop wallet I built) to manage your funds.

I don't use steemit.com anymore for the most part :)
