Update on my challenges

It was exactly two weeks ago that I took up the challenge of quitting sugar because it’s cancerous and my body was often craving it, making me act weird, but I’m in control, so I have the power to decide if I will let that substance control me or not.

People have been asking me how is everything going, but I decided to postpone making this post because there was nothing much to say, it went pretty smooth but last night something came up, and I have to share it with you.

Sugar Challenge

At first, it was a bit harder but because I was always busy, always on the run caught up in work, projects and writing it didn’t feel that hard and I soon suddenly forgot about the sugar. But, as the time passed I started having more thoughts about sugar when I saw something tasty but, they didn’t consist a big part of my thoughts, they came as they go.

If I felt the need for some sugar I was eating some fruits because the sugar within them is neutralized, I don’t know all the details but, of course, fruits are healthy. Everything went pretty well until last night.

So, last night I was out with some of my buds, @teos was one of them, and we had a few drinks, some strong stuff. They were “cooling” the alcohol with some juice but because I don’t eat sugar I decided not to drink soda until it hit me. We had no water around, I was dehydrated, and that alcohol was strong so, the soda seemed like a great choice.

I knew what I was doing, but it seemed like not such big of a deal. We soon after that got some sweeter and not so strong drinks and finished the night and went home. It’s not such a big deal that I drunk that juice last night, but it is that I broke my commitment.

The fun thing is that after being sugar-free for two weeks and drinking some soda, my teeth felt so bad thanks to that sugar, that’s something that should put you on thoughts and your soda drinking behaviors if you have some.

Fasting and My Game Plan

Against the fact that my schedule is pretty fucked up lately I managed to stick to this intermittent fasting thing, and it went well.

In the beginning, the hunger cravings were so powerful but a few days into the challenge and it already got easier and easier, that sometimes I even went like 20 hours straight without eating and only having food in a four-hour window. I started feeling better and more energetic and being honest I’m looking forward to seeing how everything will change from now on.

Even if I broke my sugar challenge for one night of drunkness, I will keep on going from now and see what happens because I don’t want to start eating sugar again and I like the way I start to feel. I found out that fruits taste so freaking better than sweets, it’s just amazing.

Also, I will keep on intermittent fasting for as long as I can, at least for this month but because I have a fucked up schedule I will probably not be able to do it 16 hours every day, but it will be at least 12 and maybe even 20 sometimes.

You should give this a try you will love the way you will feel.

Fruits are healthy because they have a lot of fiber that slows down the absorption rates of sugars contained in them, which means they don't spike insulin levels like processed foods which contain table sugar or refined sugar. High insulin level are associated with obesity and other problems

Keep up the sugar free lifestyle :)

I knew it was something similar, but I couldn't remember it, I'm not an expert, lol. I'm glad you joined, good luck. :)

I support you challenge a lot! I've been even considering this intermittent fasting. But do you know that today is the Fat Thursday? It's a Christian tradition cultivated in some countries, including Poland, associated with the celebration of Carnival. I'm not religious at all, but this pressure is so strong that the only thing I have in my mind today is a huge doughnut!

Haha, I know what you mean, sometimes it can be pretty hard. Good luck. :))

Hello @guyfawkes4-20. I joined the #quitsugarchallenge last Tuesday when I saw your post regarding it. I decided to make a post about it today and compile dangers of sugar but in the process of writing, I installed an app and
my laptop re-booted. I lost everything I was typing. Hoping to re-write tomorrow.
It's been good so far though.

Hey man, I'm glad you joined, the more, the merrier. Good luck with it, it ain't gonna be that easy. :D

You should try the ketogenic diet :)

I'll look into it, I'm not doing this to lose fat or anything like that, for me they are just challenges to test my body. :)

Yes! I agree with @cristi. Keto isn’t about losing weight. I made the change last month for the mental clarity (and other benefits) and am more inspired by it the more I learn. I get the but you don’t need to lose weight comment as people eye me up and down. They’re right and I’m not doing it for that.

You’re most of the way there already! As I read up on keto I see how much of it was touching my Loren for the last 3 years. I guess I wasn’t ready to see it now. I think you’re in the same boat.

Do you know the reason for intermittent fasting? It is to help fat adaption. It works best if you fuel off of fat instead of sugar/glucose/carbs.

You can go LCHF (low carb high fat) without ketosis but why not go all the way?

If you’re interested, Phinney & Volek are the best resource I’ve seen for starter info. https://www.amazon.com/Art-Science-Low-Carbohydrate-Living/dp/0983490708

I’m happy to answer any questions you have. If helps to have a sponsor when you start.

exactly two months ago that I took up the challenge of quitting sugar

It's been two months, already? I think that's probably a typo, plus somewhere else you mentioned two weeks, which seems about right.

Lol. Glad you had a great night with your friends, even though it ended up in you taking soda, but I really don't think one careless drunk night trumps all those work you've put in, as long as you don't let it cause a relapse.

And yes, fruits do taste better than sweets!

Haha, yeah, I meant weeks. Thanks for pointing it out, I just changed it. Exactly my thoughts. ;)

I totally agree. Sugar is one of the most toxic things we can ever get. I get that feeling on the teeth you were talking about when I drink Coke. I stopped drinking this toxic drink years ago but from time to time I feel that strong need to drink this even if it makes my heart feel very bad after just a few sips. But when I get that feeling I'm like "ewww, I need to wash my teeth right after it" - it's just the scream of the organism saying that we hurt him.. :)

Totally, I can't drink sodas at all, I never liked them, water is always my choice, if possible.

I have one week in this challenge already, probably I will make a post somewhere next week! I am wondering if honey or stevia are allowed @guyfawkes4-20?

Hmm, to be honest, I have no idea about honey, as far as I know, all the honey is filled with sugar, but stevia should work just fine. Looking forward to that post. ;)

so stevia it is the lucky winner! I will use the tag, don't worry!

Nice article! Check out please my article about ski jumping! Thank YOU for supporting my work! 🙂

nice!! I have never tried fasting, but have read the benefits of it. I don't think I'd have the willpower though lol...but sugar is definite NO for me, at least the industrialized kind. If I need to sweeten something I usually use honey or sugar cane which is natural, and no sweets =) Keep going!!!!

Don't know how you do it man.For me, It's a challenge to even skip sugar on coffee..Tried it with honey, tasted like crap .
