Putting my money where my mouth is - A Community Challenge

in challenge •  7 years ago

"Put your money where your mouth is."

There's a saying, "Practice what your preach." Well, I'm doing that but I'm also going to put my money where my mouth is. That's right! I'm laying out some SBD and STEEM POWER for a best-practices community challenge.

I don't expect that it will be easy for you.
In fact, I hope it truly does challenge you!

Curious?

Today I looked up the etymology of "put your money where your mouth is."

According to "The Facts on File Dictionary of Clichés", second edition (2006), this phrase has been floated around in the U.S. since about 1930. It means to back up one's stated position with action. It caught on in Great Britain and other English-speaking countries shortly after World War II, and has since been used in advertising slogans. It wasn't until around 1945 that this coined term implied to back one's statement with cash.

I prefer another term that my father used to holler,
especially on poker night:

"Put up, or shut up!"

Ah, memories...

Hear ye, Hear ye!

Step right up for a community challenge

Your mission, should you choose to accept this challenge, has the potential to grow your following, increase your earnings, prove a point (or disprove it... we'll see), win some SBD, and an opportunity to have 5,000 SP delegated to you for a whole week.

Challenge ends on Tuesday, July 18, 2017

You have until Midnight Eastern to accomplish ALL tasks as stated below.

This challenge is open to everyone from minnows to whales

Let's see who our community builders are!

The rules of engagement

If you are participating for a chance to win the SBD you must:

  • Leave a comment below with a screenshot of your current Steemit header. It must include the number of followers and posts/comments so we have a record of your start point.
This will also be used as your personal thread to leave updates.

header1.jpg

  • You commit to writing ONE quality post per day for at least 7 of the 10 days. Leave your one-a-day post link in your own thread below.
    >> I DO NOT recommend writing more than 2 posts per day during this challenge.<<
Share only ONE (1) post per day in your personal thread.
Minimum requirements: 1 featured photo or gif with citation, minimum 300 words, NO click bait titles!
  • You must respond to all comments on your posts.
  • You must have a minimum of 500 comments within 10 days.
Thoughtfully responding to comments left on your personal posts definitely count.
Bullshit spammy replies like "Nice Post" or "Follow me" will automatically disqualify you from this challenge.
  • Once you've reached all the minimum requirements (or got to the last day of the challenge) you will post a screenshot of your header within your personal thread so we can track your growth and progress.
You can post a daily screenshot too if that's easier for you.
  • It is recommended to upvote comments of your fellow Steemians.
Remember: Sometimes comments can earn more than your posts!

  • What's the purpose of this challenge?

    COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

    and building your tribe

I've welcomed a lot of newbies onto Steemit and told them the importance of THE THREE C'S. Heck, I've even coached other Steemians with this practice and sometimes they listen - sometimes they don't - but if you look at my account as an example, this system has worked for me and I truly believe it can work for you too. What are THE THREE C'S?

    - CONTENT -

Your posts are the gateway for getting to know you as a content creator.

    - COMMENTS -

This is the life blood of building your tribe and where community engagement lives.

    - CURATION -

Your upvotes matter. Sprinkle it around like magic fairy dust!

Read some of the amazing feedback about finding the "sweet spot" in curation.

    The prizes

150 SBD is up for grabs

This will be equally distributed only among all participants who successfully finish the challenge. If only one person meets all the requirements, they will be awarded the entire thing! If no one finishes this challenge I keep the awards, return the donations, and will try again at a future date.

Oh yes, I am actually accepting donations to sweeten the prize pot.

    donation-1288390_640.png

    GRAND PRIZE

The names of all successful participants will be put into the randomizer.
The first name on the list will be delegated 5,000 STEEM POWER for the week that I'm attending my son's bootcamp graduation (July 23-30). This is roughly half of my account strength! After 10 days of best practices and holding yourself accountable, I think I can trust one lucky person with this.

    My motivation

I'm doing this because I love Steemit and believe proper curation habits are a learned thing. I also believe that we must keep up with best practices to grow our community and keep quality content flowing. We need to stop thinking so much about the "ME" and start thinking about the "WE."

    we-2078024_640.jpg)

Hey, I don't have to do this. I can take my earnings and power up my account because I'm trying to save up so hubby and I can attend Steemfest2. It's frikken hard to do that if I keep giving my SBD away but this...

    this, right now

is more important than a week in Portugal. We've got to make our community strong.

    muscle-311658_640.png

It's the only way we're going to survive the growth spurts and stand out.

    One last thing...

At the beginning of the post I said this has the potential to grow your following, increase your earnings, and prove a point. What point? That community engagement will organically grow your tribe if you spend more time finding cool people to follow and look beyond your own content.

    Who will join me?

Given that for the past one month I was here on steemit, i have only managed to do 280 posts/comments, then the 500 in 10 days is definitely a big challenge for me.

However, since it has been my objective from the beginning to post at least one article per day, then I am summoning all my courage to accept this challenge. Hopefully I will be able to muster all the time, energy and will power to finish the task.

@merej99, challenge accepted!

(Enclosed with a prayer) 😊

Awesome job on your post @arrliinn :)

Thank you @merej99! I'd say, keep steemin' and bring it on! 💪

Welcome aboard to the community engagement challenge @arrliinn :)

I'm sending positive vibes that you can and will accomplish this challenge. The quality time you put into this platform is worth the effort. It took MONTHS for my posts to earn over a dollar when I first started. My comments actually earned more in the very beginning. There were some crazy people who did 100 comments a day challenges! LOL WOW, right?

Just remember that an average of 50 comments a day does not mean you need to read 50 posts. If you write ONE post and respond to 50 visitors, you've accomplished the feat of the day. :) Best wishes!

Thank you for these words of encouragement @merej99! I would like to believe that I can finish this challenge. And so I will. 😉

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @arrliinn

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

Got it! Thank you @arrliinn
I've got a new link for post links now. https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping

Use that for future links as this page is starting to make my computer angry when it tries to load. LOL

HAHA! I might have to hide from my teacher too. I have no idea the difference between the Roman and Greek gods!

Hmmm... yeah. Glad he isn't here (I hope) on steemit so he may never find out. Lol

@merej99 I love this Challenge! I think this is a great way to have the community interact with one another and make steemit grow. I have a project that I started about my parents letters. Do those counts as the one post?

I also wanted to help out so I contributed some SBD and send it to you. Hope it helps out with the prize! Thank you for helping steemit grow! =0)

I love iBotta!
WOMAN, get thee back in your post and edit to include your reference code!!!
You could be earning MORE if people sign up under you.

Why that didn't occur to me , but I am going to take your suggestion!!! Thank you!!! :)

I try to share my reference code using SocialJukebox on Twitter and sometimes I use IFTTT.com to auto post things like this to Facebook and LinkedIn. Hell, yeah, share that link out. That's money in your pocket. LOL

Oh my you know a lot of these things. I feel like I have so much to learn with social media! So thank you!! :)

Woot! Thank you for the donation to the challenge and for participating.

If your post is within this 1499 post/comments count you can absolutely add it as your first post for the challenge. :) If you want to drop the link in this thread, we can take a peek.
Just be sure to read through the requirements. It's not called a "challenge" for nothing. LOL Shout out if you need any help. We're here to support one another. :)

I already put in my first post @merej99! :) I am trying to interact more with the community, and being helpful to a lot of newcomers in spanish. It is hard to keep up! So many new people! LOL

I'm trolling through the sea of comments and taking note of the new posts for tonight's daily diary. Dang, this project got big. LOL
I wish I had paid more attention in Spanish. Even thought about getting the Rosetta Stone and learning the language. I think it would be a huge benefit to reach our members who speak different languages. You have a gift! Put it to use :D XOXOX

Oh I am @merej99! I am welcoming people who speak spanish. Its incredible how many people come from Venezuela. Their situation is so sad and I feel so helpless, so I think steemit will be very beneficial to them :) its never too late to learn dear :)

This project is quite interesting, I hope you planned for it! ;) its definitely going to help steemit!

My future daughter-in-law is from Venezuela. I'm trying to convince her to share her wonderful art but she's so shy! LOL
As long as we have outreach and willing people, we can help those who come along. XOXOX

Hopefully she will share it. She can even just post pictures of her art. Or write spanish. Yes we will help those who we can help :)

I hope so! Maybe I'll ask permission to post it for her and send her the SBD? I think she would do well here but the crypto part holds her back.

I haven't read this yet but I am already LOVING the title!
I'll be swinging by soon. You're doing really good. Feeling confident so far?

Thank you @merej99! I don't know about more confident, but i love to check back on my replies and see what people say or answer :) yes whenever you get a chance stop by the project. I honestly do not know WHERE you steal time from. Lol

Steemit or house cleaning?
I will do just about anything to avoid cleaning my house. LOL
Steemit wins!

To just do it all! How DO you do it???

I do this.

LOL

Here is my link to the second post of the challenge. Thank you so much!
https://steemit.com/money/@sgnsteems/apps-to-pay-you-money

Thanks for the reminder about those other apps! I have them, I just rarely use them. Silly me.

No problem! Sometimes saving money takes times, so it is understandable we forget to check these apps. At least for a few days you will be watching them :0)

Thanks @merej99 for such a nice contest. I am in

MerejChallenge.png

Hi @merej99. Below is my link for entry number 1. Sorry for the delay, I was doing some chores around the house for couple of days;

https://steemit.com/steemit/@nba05/10-reasons-to-start-using-esteem-2017711t16758572z

All right! I'm so glad to see you get a post in. I was getting ready to pull the plug on you :)
Next 7 days are going to be a challenge! I will do everything I can to help you get to the finish line. :)

I'm very glad to see you join @nba05

Hopefully your father didn't twist your arm too much LOL
Seriously though, we're here to build community, grow, learn and become mentors for future Steemians. This might be a community engagement challenge, but it's also bootcamp for best practices. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Be sure to read through all the guidelines. I'm going to be strict in following them. :)

Given that I've been struggling to find time for 2 posts a week recently, this could be quite a stretch for me. On the other hand, it might teach me to do smaller posts, rather than the longer posts I usually do. So I'll give it a go!
One thing I wasn't clear on - the 500 comments - is that comments on my posts by other people, comments by me or them both added together?
deb-header-170709.jpg

I've asked the same, just not as succinctly as you did here. Hope we get an answer soon. I'll let you know if I do.
Good luck with the contest. No reason you couldn't do chapters. Would that make it easier for you? Musings don't have to be that long either...now do they? ~smiles~

Seems it's 500 posts or comments from us, not including others comments on our posts. So our post count on the pic goes up by 500. That is a REAL challenge!! Even more so than keeping my musings succinct, lol.

300 words... Yes! Absolutely make smaller chapters! After 1 AM I usually have the attention span of a gnat. LOL

I am 100% pleased to see @kiwideb join the community engagement challenge!

This is going to be some hard fun, Deb. LOL Could be we're gluttons for punishment but dang, the journey is worthwhile. :)
Smaller posts are good too! I'm not a huge fan of all the really short meme posts but they do have their entertainment value. I certainly love short and long form posts! There's so much to learn and everyone has some gift they bring to the table!
500 comments/posts total. So, based on your number, you need to reach 3249 posts in your header by deadline. So responding to people on your posts or leaving comments on people you visit... it all counts. :)

So 500 comments/posts myself, not counting other people's. Wow, that will be a challenge - 50 a day average. Better get my skates on, nowhere near 50 today so far. But I see the point, to really encourage and support other Steemians.

If you get some time tomorrow, you could even scroll through some of the conversations in this post! You might even like a few links. We've got a plethora of subjects going on. It's pretty cool.

Yes, I already started and have visited 3 of them so far. No shortage of material to read or write, just shortage of time ;-)

I know this time shortage feeling! I either need more time or a clone. LOL
At some point my husband is going to have to peel me away from the keyboard so I can go grocery shopping! Work stops when there's no food in the house.

Ah, a clone, that does sound useful. I think Barbra Streisand would agree with us.

I am still chuckling after reading your post, Deb. GOOD STUFF. And it brought back good memories too. :)

Always happy to get somebody chuckling ;-)

Do you have a post for today? I'm just checking in :)

Yes and no... It's half written, the pics are 3/4 edited, then I got a phone call from someone who needed some help and the evening disappeared. Mondays are often the busiest day of the week, so they might be my 2 post free days! Thanks for checking in.

I'm going to be doing some spot checking and getting the day 5 diary post up. Everyone is doing so well! Seriously - Not one slacker in the bunch. LOL
I have a new post up for our latest links https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping

It has a link to the spreadsheet I've been working with so if I'm missing any of your posts that means it didn't make it into the diary! I think we're good though. I've got you down for 4 posts :)

Yep, 4 posts is everything.

Woohoo! Gotcha before I posted the next diary :)

Post 2 - https://steemit.com/recipes/@kiwideb/grain-free-apple-walnut-muffins-version-2-with-coconut-flour - is this the right place to post?
EDIT - just rereading the "rules" - in my mind it was 7 posts in the 10 days. But that's not what it says, so maybe I am already out. I'll carry on though, as my own personal challenge.

You're still good! :)
It may have been how I wrote up that part. When I launched this it was a hair over 10 days til end of the challenge. The minimum requirement is total number of posts to be 7 or more. Certainly if you have 2 quality posts written within 24 hours you can share both on here. My only request is that you only share one per day for the purpose of this challenge. Hope that cleared it up. I'll include that in the Day 3 diary :)

Screen Shot 2017-07-08 at 00.25.42.png

Count me in! Not sure if I'll reach the 500 comment mark, but hey it's worth a shot. Plus I could use a little extra motivation to write some good posts everyday.

AHA! I was just about to send you a reminder message. Glad to see you got this in. It will be included in the next Daily Diary :)

LOL

Ummmm that's me 100%. Do NOT mess with my coffee!!! My Little Alman learned early on the value of coffee. He likes to pretend to drink it and loves sips of my iced coffees when we have a special treat. I'm a caffeine addict and I know it.

Hey, you got a new avatar! I just noticed it. Very nice @thesimplelife :)
COFFEE IS MY LIFE. lol

I did, thanks to your guidance! It's at least a starting point and now I know how to change it when I want to. Thanks for the help! Now I want a cup of coffee...decaf, of course.

YES! This is what I like to see!

We've got motivation and helpful tips. Shout out if you need some extra support. I've got butt-kickin' boots too. Welcome to the challenge. You've got 10 days to git 'er done! happiness

Those boots may come in handy, but I've already got 20 thougtful comments down! Only 480 to go!

That gives me happiness from head to toe!
Don't forget to post the one-a-day link in your comments thread so we can follow along and show some support.

How's it going @kylek717?
Just checking in on you -- making sure everything's all right and on track :)

Hello @mathworksheets how are you my friend. I wish you much enjoyment in this challenge

And luck of course...was a horse...a three legged horse...who went off course...of course ;-)

~namaste~

Thanks a lot @cryptologyx:)) I like the rhyming :-))

I'm so glad you liked it...I like fun'n around too...keeps the mind fresh. I left a math riddle for you in your second post. Made it up all by myself } :-)>

Ha haha. I did that one. This horse one, still can't get it.

I have faith in you my friend...hint...just two words...punctuate as you please ~smiles~

Still scratching my head my dear friend!!

That was a beautiful post @mathworksheets! I am truly inspired by the gentleness of your spirit.

Thanks a lot Meredith. I know you are doing a tough job to reply each and every comment on this post and every post entered in the contest. But we need brave and tough people like you as the founding pillars of the platform and community. God Bless You and Yours!

It's challenges like these that give me energy and feeds the mothering side of me. LOL. I feel like I could go all night interacting and having wonderful conversations. All of these threads are true gems. Truly, if this was my full time job, I would be so happy! And may you have an abundance of blessings as well. XOXOX

Me as well want a full time job @ steemit.com. Ready to do the double shift. LOL.

I think I did a double shift! Went to bed about 5 am and still couldn't sleep. Then I was up at 11 and doing it again. Only this time I'm taking a "forced" break. I need to get dressed and buy food or the family might get upset. LOL

You are doing a great job Meredith. Yes, specially when family sees you not dressed up properly and not taking care of them and staying awake for very long towards the morning (My family thinks that something wrong with me. Then I have time go out with them and enjoy, then they satisfy that nothing wrong here).

Thanks a lot for your kind words @merej99. HUGGS and Blessings to you and your family as well.

Why, you sneaky so and so! You made me math today. LOL
One recommendation is to find a small illustration or picture to use as your featured picture otherwise it may be "lost in translation" when it shows up on our feed. Remember the first image is what helps determine whether a person stops the scrolling to read your content.

Thanks a lot Meredith. I have included the image to my entry no. 3.

Aha! I almost missed this in the final sweep :)
@mathworksheets - keep an eye out for the sister post where we will add new post links. This one is getting entirely too big and it's making some of our older laptops cry when it tries to load. LOL

Oh, OK. Tomorrow I will drop my link under the daily Community Engagement Challenge one. Thanks for letting me. That's right it's getting multi-fold bigger!

It's a beautiful thing to see how big this is but at some point we need to regroup and get a fresh page. I'll be working on that as soon as I finish up this next post :)

OK Meredith, my next link will be under this thread. Have A Good Night!

Outstanding @mathworksheets! I'm so glad to see you participating in this.

How about @golden-bellerina? Will your wife try as well?
It's not an easy challenge but it's meant to push us and use best practices to help grow and nurture our accounts and our community.

I will personally be reading each post that's included in this challenge and probably include unsolicited advice to help make improvements to format and such. That is my sneaky ulterior motive. LOL

Thanks a lot for the motivation Meredith. I asked Mandeep she is very busy at her work for whole month. I am pushing my son @nba05 to enter.

This will definitely be a challenge considering I have been a member on Steemit for 3 weeks and only have 417 posts in total at this point, the vast majority are my interactions with other members on their posts. But I will give it a try. :-)

I thought I would practically live at Disney since I live in Florida. LOL It's about an hour away and I'll be enjoying Epcot soon :)

We go to Universal and Legoland one or two times a year with annual passes, and Disney every other year since it's more expensive. For us it's a 3 hour drive up from the Ft. Lauderdale area.

My husband wants to go to Legoland so bad! LOL
I told him once all this graduation stuff passes, we can have a day trip.

Legoland is super fun, even for adults. Entry level roller coasters :-)

that was a fun, informative post. I agree with Isaac Asimov's assessment :)

Than you :-) Yeah it has always bugged me about it's inclusion in the "official rainbow" lineup.

Woot! We've got a player!

You have no idea how happy this makes me. :)))
Hit those minimums and you're in like flint! I'm going over to follow you now. <3

I know - this is great, and in the process my Silverbird drawing post caught the attention of someone, maybe over on steemit chat or discord, and it's now my highest voted post by far.

Cool! If the artist trails picks up on it, then hopefully you'll see an increase in the fundage too. :)

@frankydoodle - One recommendation for future posts. Be aware that the first picture on your blog post is going to be you featured picture on the NEW, HOME, HOT, TRENDING and PROMOTED tabs. For the best chance of exposure on your posts, find an appropriate picture that tells your audience what it's about. Like food, we taste things with our eyes first.

Awesome! Welcome to the community engagement challenge @frankydoodle!

Community engagement is very important and make a point of responding to all my comments ! Count me in ! 👍👍👍

Woohoo! Welcome to the Community Engagement Challenge @karenmckersie

Dang, woman, you've got over 12K posts! That part of the challenge is definitely not going to be a problem for you. LOL

Be sure to use this thread when you post your daily link and final screenshot! See you at the finish line! psst! You might have to drag me a bit. hahaha

haha thanks for that ! I sure hope so my friend ! it will be 13,306 !! I just did a post for the color challenge , can I put that up for today's post !? And then another for Saturdays tomorrow !? And do I just add the link as a reply to the screenshot I took !?

Sure thing, Karen. Just remember there are minimum requirements for posts. As long as it's got a minimum 300 words, a cited featured pic or gif, and a catchy title (that isn't click bait) it's good to go! Definitely add your link-a-day below your screenshot. It will be easier to track your progress and posts that way. :)

oh wow 300 words per post ! Sounds like a lot haha I don't think there's that many words as its a color challenge post ! But OK ,mi might have to wait till tomorrow thanks for the info about adding it to my screenshot ! 👍👍👍🚀

Even those color challenges can have 300 words. I know it sounds like a lot but it can go by fast. From google:

even when I counted the words on my post , I really didn't think there was 200 words ! LOL! They add up fast ! Mabel I should just add more words to it ! LOL some how I missed that part about the 300 words or I would have counted them first LOL , no problem at all its much easier then I thought , and will know for tomorrow ! Thanks ! 😂😂😂

I thought about 500 words but I was really trying to keep our meme, photographers, and poets included, which is why I made it 300 words. It is surprisingly easy if you don't worry overmuch about it. Just look at how many words you've included in your comments! Easy peasy stuff. I'm off to bed now. It just rang 3 in the morning. UGH!

This is true :-) my post for this morning is based on the debate around the color Indigo in the color challenge.

just counted , I think theres 200 words !?

You gotta

just a wee bit more! :D

haha I like it ! OK if you insist , I must do what I must do !! 😂😂😂👍👍👍 I pumped it up haha !! One down and I put the link in my reply ! 6 or 9 to go !!!

I just spit my coffee up laughing at this gif!!! Ahhh, laughing is good for the soul

I was looking for Pump up the Jam but had to settle for this one. LOL

This right here is a challenge that I can throw my hat into.
I need this challenge. I'm not sure if I have 300 words in me per post but I'm willing to put myself out there and give it a try.

This is what I love about STEEMIT it forces me to get out of my comfort zone.
I'm in.

steemit header.PNG

You got this @sneakgeekz

300 words goes by really fast and you only need 7 posts in 10 days.
My favorite quote of all time is from Ernest Hemingway, "Write hard and clear about what hurts."
I use that for my thoughts, fiction, poetry... Sometimes I even refer to that in my art. I'm looking forward to seeing what you share with us.

I follow you on youtube

Amen to that. I think I will also join in on this :)

Way to go @sneakgeekz! Keep going! I'm looking for post #2 now :)

I'll see what I can do!

Am I supposed to post it in here or below, I posted below already but I'll post here too hope this works! https://steemit.com/steemit/@rawpride/free-isn-t-free-when-it-comes-to-free-coins-but-coins-are-there-for-the-getting

I have this logged to post in Day 3 Diary @rawpride :)
I'm getting ready to leave a generic post on your thread. Please use that for your posts moving forward. Some of these threads are killer long and I don't want to lose anyone. :)

All righty, then! You're the 6th person to join the Community Engagement Challenge! :)

With some decent prizes on board and donations filtering in, the challenge has to be a bit rigid. I'm hoping that it becomes a learning experience for some, and a tool to build up our tribes. I'm looking forward to seeing what you share!

Hey @rawpride - I'm just checking in on your. You've got until July 11 at midnight EST to get your first qualifying post in for this challenge. We're here if you need help. :)

@rawpride, we've started new conversations and post threads at https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping

also check the spreadsheet. I currently have you listed with 3 posts. Let me know if I've missed any.

I'm in...but did this start the seventh or the eighth? lol!

Screenshot (2).png

I really appreciate the bonus, right about now I could use a head start on something haha!
I will be donating as well, have to figure out my finances, also need to get another donation in to @azurejasper. Actually I donated to girlbeforemirror's account before papa put out his challenge. I debated mentioning that, I don't need the alkalaids for it, but the community would have a boost on their part from it...what do you think, say something or no?

https://steemit.com/photography/@dreemit/color-challenge-friday-blue-can-t-get-enough-of-the-lake-and-a-promotion-of-new-new-ish-steemians-you-must-check-out

I would definitely mention it to @papa-pepper. I actually got a brief message to him in Steem.chat.
I cannot believe I'm being sucked into chatrooms again. Oy! I just want us to be on ONE SUPER PLATFORM!

I followed those folks you mentioned in your post. Now I really need to try and get some sleep! :P There are a few people from my Blab (livestreaming) and Bubblews (now defunct blogging) days. I need to check in on them to see how they're doing. @screenwriterml @colin-porter @lelandbest @anialexander @andyleeparker ... I know I'm forgetting a few but... sleeeepppppp Zzzzzz......

LOL! You can post something from the 7th. It's the unsaid "bonus" day. ha! Good lordy it's after 2 am and I need sleep. Get that screen shot in, woman!

Welcome to the Community Engagement Challenge @dreemit

I was hoping you'd swing by and play with us for a week. :) I just snagged a screenshot because no matter how hard I squinted, I couldn't see your numbers. LOL

okay, I was able to get your proper numbers! 6766 posts to start.

Shall we engage? :P

No touch screen? lol! I just put my fingers on the screen and spread (Actually it said 6766, but I can beat five hundred anyway, so it's all good)

I'm on an ancient laptop with a dead battery. I reject touch screens! LOL
The last time I had one was when I was taking online college courses. A damn fly kept on landing on my touch monitor. Well, I didn't know it was moving my mouse all over the place until I looked up from my typing and saw a jumbled MESS. I was cured from touchscreens ever since. LOL (My iPhone is the exception. It's only used for apps. No flies allowed.)

oh, and if it comes down to the wire...we'll use your start number. LOL

Anddd here is number two (which is inspired by and honors you)
Check me out, all rhymie and stuff lol

https://steemit.com/steemit/@dreemit/some-words-about-my-necessary-new-voting-practices-and-honoring-a-veteran-of-this-site

Thank you so much for this post. HUGS just don't seem to be enough.

Aw. You do so much Mer, there were several comments by some of the new newbies who couldn't say enough about the help you've been to them. You deserve waayy more recognition than this one post.

I'll take the hugs and raise them to big smooches lol!

We all started somewhere, right? Even the ones who aren't participating can learn from these conversation threads. And there is no way I can take all the credit. There are so many people on Steemit who are working just as hard to help our newest members.
So... I was reading something in one of your earlier posts about Steemfest. Will you be going to Portugal this year?

I kept trying to resteem and it was the weirdest thing, the round and round loading feature was doing this wobbly thing. Or maybe it's just my eyes because it's so late...lol!

Oh good, I was just going to randomly pick comments from you to link them to....LOL

Yooohooooo! I'm sniffing around for your post today! :D

Crap!! Haha, I put the link on here to today's post about two hours ago, which was already late, but I responded to my own comment.

https://steemit.com/story/@dreemit/the-allies-of-old-book-two-renewal-chapter-twenty-two-friend-or-foe

I gotcha! ;)
I'm actually going to wait to do a final sweep through the actual post as I go through the comments thread. Might have to do a sister post for new links. This one has truly earned "the BEAST" nickname. This is getting nuts. ha!

My computer would most humbly thank you if you did a sister post, haha! It is really difficult to get the comment section to load with my dinosaur! I need to get a new laptop, this is clear. Though the one I want is going to have to wait until our winter business is in full swing, so this old girl has to keep on chugging for several months :)

I know this feeling. I want to save up for a much coveted macbook even though I've been a PC girl forever. New post for links coming up this evening after I get the Daily diary posted :)

Ahh, well you won't find it because I used today to ready a few posts in a row instead of putting one up ;) I've been having some trouble with my camera uploading which I finally sorted out.

Sorry it's so late in the day, I tried doing it earlier but sometimes this old laptop has trouble loading posts with large comment sections, lol, here it is:

https://steemit.com/story/@dreemit/the-allies-of-old-book-two-renewal-chapter-twenty-two-friend-or-foe

Nice

What a fantastic idea! I love that through the challenge you end up bettering not only yourself but the community (and gain a tribe to boot hopefully!) I would love to say challenge accepted but st this point I can never guarantee how much time I have available. But I'm sure going to try because even if I can do half of that I will still gain so much. However I don't know how to include a screenshot in a comment? Sorry if that's an uneducated question but I'm way out of my element still here! Thanks for chaleneging us to be better.

I gotcha! Here's your screenshot @thesimplelife - and welcome to the Community Engagement Challenge :)

thesimplelife-challenge.jpg

The worst thing that can happen is... you don't make it -- but we're not going to start off with any stink' thinkin'! LOL I'm not sure what device you're working on. I'm usually on a laptop and there's a screen print button that I press. It's auto saved into my clipboard and then paste it into Paint so I can crop and resize it. Then you simply drag the picture into the comment area and voila!

Speaking of photos... we need to get you up to par with your profile picture! You've got a wordpress site for your blog, add a photo or avatar you wish to use in the media folder. It automatically generates a URL. That's the link you can post in your Steemit public profile settings. :)

Yell if you have questions! If I can't answer I probably know someone who can.

Awesome! I was definitely wondering how to get a profile pic up there. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your assistance! I will have to take a look at both things this evening. I go back and forth between working on my phone and working on my computer, so I will see if I can figure it out on my laptop. I'm not too worried if I don't win any prizes...the challenge will just cause me to improve my practice all around, which is the whole point! Thanks for putting it together!

I'm keeping an eye out for your post :) You got this! XOXOX

I am literally googly-eyed over how adorable Little Man is on his bike. Oh my gosh, I just want to squeeze him! LOL I remember when my boys were that small. <3 <3 <3

He is definitely a beauty! I can't show pictures of faces or anything that would be identifying features but he's still a cutie even from behind! I would like him to stay two forever...

I have a friend who is going through the same exact thing. She can only show pictures from behind. I love toddler's diaper butt and chubby legs. Makes me want to munch on those little rug rats. LOL

I attempted to write today a few different times. Unfortunately my head and heart are completely focused on one thing today as we move into a very stressful week. So I will make today a day where I read the works of others and give encouragement as I can!

Thank you! It's kind of a crazy obsession. I can't be at peace til my home is perfect. The last home I worked on for seven years and it was perfect...then I moved. Ha! We shall see how this house goes...

All right! You're on the ball :) I'll follow up with some comments soon. Trying to do the final sweep to get tonight's post out.
Keep up the great work @thesimplelife...and hey... work on getting your avatar on your profile, okay?

You might have to walk me through that one too...because I thought I had gotten it figured out? Lol. Lots to learn... Where else does it need to go? Thanks for the guidance!!

This one is getting too long and my computer is really groaning now. LOL

Hello @merej99 ! Greetings from the paradise Island Of Mauritius! Thank you for putting this up! It is indeed very challenging but still i will try my level best to achieve the targets set! Counting on your full support dear!

Here come the FOOD LOVER!!!

I would totally eat that...and I don't even mind that my food would be staring at me. LOL

Same here dear! And trust me... it was really delicious and the fish was perfectly cooked!

LOL - now you're just teasing me. hahaha!
I don't think my husband could be in the same room as I gnawed on that deliciousness. He's kind of delicate. tee hee!

Ok next fish recipe will be a filet one! I'll try to please him too!

@progressivechef - do you have any idea how much I love food??? So much that I married a head cook (whose family owns and operates a restaurant & bar). LOL

I think we may be dragging each other over the finish line to get this challenge done. Bookmark this page this is where we'll be tracking progress.

Yell if you need a lifeline....or a swift motivating kick. I've got my boots. I'm not afraid to use them. lol

Oh wow that's amazing to hear dear @merej99! I have been executive chef for the last 4 years and been working in hotels kitchen for 15 years!
Counting on your support for sure now! You are a foodie so am I!!! Great pairing!!!
Check out my recipe and do let me know!

Cheers
@progressivechef

And voila my post for the 08/07/17 - Hope you enjoy this magical journey at the Mauritian Veg Market! Do you like Vegetables Market??? Check this out! https://steemit.com/food/@progressivechef/friday-is-market-day-in-mauritius-discover-it

I think I could spend all day in a food market like that! People think I'm crazy because I love grocery shopping! WHY!? It's wonderful to be surrounded by food... okay, and maybe I'm a little weird too. lol

For me this is one of the best moment that you spend during the week!
I get same feeling when I see raw foods!

It's so good to know that I'm not the only one crazy for food and marketplaces. And yet I cannot stand clothes or shoe shopping! lol

That's weird dear, as i got the same feeling here! It is an head ache for me to go buy clothes/shoes! Search for it... try it...try again... don't have your size...another store... Repeat!!!

YAHOOWEE! You officially have 5 posts done with only 2 more to go before you reach the challenge post minimum! With 289 comments under your belt you are doing an amazing job.

I will enjoy a tall glass of beer in your honor :D

Oh that's so sweet of you dear! Thanks a lot!
I will try my best to go above the minimum for sure!
Thanks again for the support!

And don't forget to bring me along! LOL!

I am very sorry but I have to drop out. I will not be able to write a post in time. Good luck to everyone else. I guess I cannot use a post I wrote yesterday, can I?

You absolutely CAN use your post from yesterday. Your time table began the moment you added your header to the challenge. What you do within this timetable is what we're counting. Please post your link and we'll include you in Day 3 Diary.

I've got your post scheduled to be listed in the Day 3 Diary :) Keep up the great work. Get your comments count up where you can and let me know if there is anything I can help you with :)

A great initiative @merej99. Not sure if I will be able to reach all of the targets you have set but will enjoy myself trying. :)

Imay need a little technical support along the way as I am not the most proficient in this area. For starters it took me nearly twenty minutes to work out how to take a screen capture. :)

Also, I'm not sure how to credit images properly so if anyone could help me with this, that would be fantastic. :{)

I'm pretty active with commenting and curating as it is but need to start working on posting more myself so really glad of the kick up the backside that I hope this will give me! :)

Will have my first post up later tonight. Life has me kept busy right now!

Have a great day and thanks again.

Here is my second of seven posts in ten days....another fun contest and hopefully a good few comments to go towards my target of 500. :)

https://steemit.com/contest/@tonyr/easy-contest-tell-me-a-joke-and-win-10-sbd

I just stopped by your post. OMG, I am really so bad at telling jokes. I can't even think of a silly one off the top of my head. JOKE KILLER. Yup. That's me. lol

I'm not very good at jokes myself.....at least not the family friendly sort that I'm looking for. :)

The joke police are on their way to interview you concerning the recent spate of dead jokes. All the evidence points to you @meerj99! :)

Oh no! Dun dun dun!!!

Put down the joke and come out with your hands up! :)

Come an' get me coppers!

LOL - I didn't scroll down far enough before I responded to your last message. I just visited your post and that looks like a really fun art challenge! The citations look good too. Just be aware that some images from wiki sites are not always public domain. Otherwise, GREAT JOB!

One little recommendation. When you're writing try to make your first 100 characters an overview of your post otherwise it looks "junky" in the feed.

tonyr-tip.jpg

See how your image attribution shows up? That's because you didn't have quite enough text before the picture to hide it.

Thanks for the great advice @meerj99! I'm learning as I go.....but I can be a slow learner! :{)

@tonyr - I am really thrilled to see you taking up this community engagement challenge.

Of course we're here to help! As I was mentioning to @karenmckersie - 300 words minimum per post is not a lot. Heck, your comment here is nearly half that. LOL

Crediting images:
There are different ways to do this. I personally like to include the image source link after the photo.
Some people compile their links and post them at the bottom of their post.
All of your images should either be your own, or specifically public domain, or creative commons (whatever attributes the image requires). The very important reason for this is because some content is copyright material and can only be used with express written consent. Unfortunately a lot of people don't realize they can be severely fined if they're caught and it jeopardizes the whole site, especially if there is a DMCA claim against you. Bear in mind this is not limited to just Steemit, but it's appropriate for any platform where sharing content occurs.

Oh, I hope I didn't scare you with all that but it is an important warning to do the right thing all the time. Knowledge is Power.

Good luck with this challenge and don't forget to keep us up to date with your progress. :)

Hi meerj99! I'm actually just about to post my first of seven. I've done the best I can right now regarding image credits. I'm still not getting it spot on Iknow but if you ncould let me know if thats acceptable and if not I will change it asap.

Thanks again my friend!

The importance of crediting images is to make sure we stay on the good side of copyrights. :) My favorite place for free stock photos is pixabay.com most people who use that are content to say images are from pixabay and all's good. Just be careful of snagging photos off the internet. When you post your link I'll take a peek, okay?

I'm saving that Pixabaybresource right now! Thanks ;-)

Sorry for the late reply @meerj99 but thank you! :{)

Good to see you taking up the challenge Tony. This will be a fun one.

@tonyr - just in case you missed it, I have the sister post to THE BEAST https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping
Please use this link for future posts as this one is getting way too long. I do have this contest post updated on the spreadsheet. :)

A great help @merej99 as the last thread was getting pretty long. :) Just want to say again what a fantastic thing this is your doing and a great help to many of us taking part. And a quick mention also for @steempowerpics who I think has done a marvelous job and is a credit to the community. He is such a friendly and helpful guy and would like to nominate him for a special mention for going above and beyond in his support for your challenge as well as my own contest. We were friends already before taking part in the challenge but this has emphasised for me what a fantastic steemian he is and I feel he is going to be a bigger player in future in our growing community. If you could mark him out for a special mention in you next daily diary I would be very appreciative. :)

Steem on Meredith!! :)

I love seeing this.

This is what community engagement is all about. There are so many people who give so much to this community. Unsung heroes. ALL OF YOU!
Everyone who finishes will be getting honorable mentions, but I've copied this message for a special post...coming soon.

Oh, hey.... in case you didn't get the memo, we've got a new post for conversations and links at https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping

Cheers! :)

Perfect! Doing this is so much easier to find the latest posts for everyone! This will be in Day 3 daily diary :)
Don't be offended, but your handwriting was so nice I thought you might be a girl. LOL

I' not offended. ;) That's not the first time I've heard that. :)

Not a problem! :)

Challenge accepted. I want to thank you for coming up with this unique contest. I considered it as a marathon for the Steemit race. I appreciate the sacrifice that you make to finance this contest. I also want to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself as well.

Not sure how clear is my screen shot, as at today 8 July 2017, I have 759 followers and the number of posts is 3009. Let the challenge begin.

I'm so glad to see you join in @positivesteem

If we don't push out of our comfort zones we will never grow. I haven't been as consistent as I want to be on Steemit and this is also going to challenge me! Let's get to the end together, okay? :)

ps - thanks for typing in your start numbers. I couldn't read them. LOL

I will see it through. I have already started with my commenting and will submit an article later today.
Wondering if you can allow flexibility on the 300 words requirements to allow users as artist or poets to enter. Could they perhaps submit one artwork or poem a day . Many a times a poem can be outstanding but maynot reach 300 words.

I actually did consider this and I waffled between 300 or 500 words and it's the illustrators, poets and photographers that helped me decide to go with 300 so they could feel included.
If a person is writing haiku, obviously jumping to 300 words may seem like a lot, but here's my argument...

An intro paragraph, sharing a tiny bit of their inspiration for the piece, and a decent conclusion should get them over 300 words. Think about the comment you just left. It's 62 words and you probably didn't even stress about it, right? Just something to think about. :)

I am glad that you have taken all these into consideration. I will do my best.

I know you do! :D

This is my first article. With an introduction, the article exceeds 300 words. In addition, the introduction I think add so much depth to the article. Tell me what you think.

https://steemit.com/travel/@positivesteem/trans-mongolia-railway-adventure-a-holiday-on-my-way-to-a-holiday

Excellent! I haven't had a chance to read through it yet. I'm still getting caught up with yesterday's posts and comments. LOL In my opinion, it's good to switch up content. Who needs those kinds of limits on creativity, right? :)

Yes, we need to switch so that our followers are not bored reading about the same subject matter. Variety is the spice of life.

Bring on the (scary) spice!

Thank you. I was trying to make my title not a click bait so as to comply with your conditions. Cheers.

Glad that I check the thread here. I have actually posted my 4th to 7th article but am not sure where it is posted. That is why I did not receive any comments from you. Here are the links for the 4th to 7th article.

This means all my 7 articles are written. Now I need to work on my comments. This is my screen shot.

I have a total of 233 comments still outstanding. And it will be done by this tuesday. Thanks a million for this challenge.

Hi @rtdcs - great submission and really fun pictures. Unfortunately you're short on text.
One big recommendation is to also write in your native language - expand your outreach!
The other thing you can do to increase the word count is to tell us a little about which picture was your favorite and why. 300 word minimum is not too difficult. If you want to make an edit to your post, I can definitely revisit.

Hi @rtdcs - just a reminder that there is still time to participate in the Community Engagement Challenge. I can still use this post if you can add a bit more text to make it qualify :)

@rtdcs - you have no idea how thrilled I am to see so many new-to-me people joining this challenge! Thank you for giving it a try!

Engagement is the life blood of the Steemit community and my brilliant "evil" plan of finding quality creators is working! Bwah-hahahaaa.
Seriously though, if you have any questions, just shout them out. I'm looking forward to seeing your posts. Let's see if we can't blow this place up with some amazing stuff!

my brilliant "evil" plan of finding quality creators is working! Bwah-hahahaaa.

Girl, you crack me up (but, . . . yeah . . absolutely brilliant)

Ok, I'm convinced this is a good "game" to play for the next 10 days. Now I have to go back and read the rules, lol. This will be a good exercise, thanks.

On a much lighter note, here is my blog post for day 2 https://steemit.com/life/@aboutyourbiz/being-fine-sucks-don-t-be-fine-be-excellent

AWESOME post @aboutyourbiz. I might have gotten on the soap box a little in my comment. LOL

No, you spoke truth. It's a shame how we are so programed for this and people really don't stop and think.

Sometimes I wonder if it's part nurturing on the respondent's side (that we want people to stop worrying about us) and then part not knowing what else to say on the verbalizer's side. It's like social taboo and I don't know why!

I think "keeping it together" comes in to play at times too. You can tell if someone is pushed they will break, and it's not always appropriate to let that happen to them. I have to admit say fine a time or two myself for that reason.

Well, after quite a few tears, here is my first post https://steemit.com/life/@aboutyourbiz/flower-in-the-snow-a-suicide-story

Thank you for the warning. I got my tissue and finished reading. Wow... I'm gonna hold onto this darkness for a bit before I shake it off.

I hope by the time you read this you're on to happier times. I don't plan to have such an intense post in the future.

I admit that I love intense posts. I feel like there's a certain amount of bravery to lay our feelings out raw and vulnerable. It's how we connect with people in a very meaningful way.

Can't argue that point, but also didn't want you to stay in a dark place, so was offering a little light in the future. :)

That dark place... we have a love/hate relationship but it's been there my entire life. I can't imagine what life would look like without it. Strange, huh?

I suppose, well, as long as you know where the light switch is huh?

So, this 50 a day commenting thing, yeah hard. I'm not one to talk a whole bunch IRL unless you get me on a roll. I feel like I've been chatty Cathy, the day is almost gone and I haven't even made 25 comments. ~sigh~

No stinkin' thinkin' - YOU CAN DO THIS!
Would you believe that I'm not really IRL social either? It's kind of strange but I can perform in front of people, I can get on livestream, but put me at a social event and I just want to hide in the kitchen and wash someone else's dishes. LOL
You're right about the chatty Cathy part. It's not easy but it does get easier, especially when you get into conversational threads... like this one! :D

I can see your point about a thread like this one. Right now though I have to go looking for things to comment on. Which means I have to be interested in the topic. So I suppose a lot of time is spent reading stuff, or watching a video. I have yet to see much engagement on my own posts, which would be easier.

I tend to think ahead if I can, and just realized if it's taken me all day today, what about when I work, lol I do sneak a peak on my phone when I can, but that's not always possible. I'll keep pluggin away.

Tell you what... If you're awake and want to play - find a post that's interesting and we'll have a conversation over there. LOL We'll get your post count up in NO TIME and see who else joins. It could be an interesting experiment.

That sounds like fun, but I'm getting kinda punchy, been a long draining day. Rain check? For tomorrow maybe?

If so, do I post a link here? What topics interest you? I can find one maybe we both have an interest in. Let me know what you think. (This one makes 32 BTW, only 468 to go. Oy vey)

raincheck definitely.
I need to stop looking at comments and write a post! LOL
I'm open to all topics. You can be as naughty or nice as you want to be. Yeah, post the link here. We'll have some fun with it. And don't stress too much about the post count. It will come. ;)

Okay I have a question. There seems to be a rash of spam comments going around, largely f4f type and they obviously didn't read the post they spam. The rules say we have to respond to every comment. I have been ignoring these spam comments and only responding to real comments previous to this contest. How should we handle these spam comments?

GOOD QUESTION:

You do not have to respond to SPAM comments.

I'd say that was the one exception.
I normally do. Sometimes I leave a helpful tip, or a welcome message. Sometimes it's a plea or a warning too, but no, you do not have to engage those comments.

And just in case you haven't had a chance to read through comments, you are also under NO obligation to follow me or anyone else taking part in this challenge. That's not what this is about.

Thank you for the clarification. And I think I was following you already, but if it was a resteem I thinks you're a gem to find! ;)

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @aboutyourbiz

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

5 down woot! https://steemit.com/steemit/@aboutyourbiz/how-to-put-a-business-on-steemit-the-down-and-dirty-2017712t1094983z

Only 63 more comment today, hahaha only

The last two evenings have been slow to find places to add a valuable comment, hope tonight is better

All righty! Getting it in early. Woot!
And you've already got 141 posts under your belt. A good strategy is getting 7 posts done and out of the way then focusing on your comments count. Just an idea ;)

Yep, I finished yesterday only 20 short of 150 so 70 is the goal today to get caught up, but we'll see. I've posted my blog from my esteem app yesterday and today. Now that was a challenge.

And that was with the article ready to go just copy and paste from an email.

I've played with esteem a little bit on my phone and I can definitely seeing the value of that, especially if you're on the road. It is cumbersome trying to type on a tiny keyboard and, of course "my friend" auto-spell/correct. GRRRR.

That's some pretty good goal setting @aboutyourbiz - don't forget to take some "ME TIME" :)

I have a love/hate relationship with auto correct.

It's a temporary sacrifice, just so I don't get so far behind I can't finish.

That is a great attitude to keep <3

Indeed, we definitely have a problem with the Steemit UI. I am really hoping that they've got something cool in development but I'm used to it by now...and I started a spreadsheet a long time ago to keep track of my posts. Easy reference for me when I write current posts with references that are so yesterday. :P

I don't know how easy it would be for the author monetization, but it seems it should be easy enough for the organization of our posts and the posts of others we want to refer back to. Steemit is not mainstream user friendly. If they want people to join to use it as a social platform. I don't see my friends on fb coming here, it's more work than they want to put into social media. Social media for them is about staying connected with friends, hence social.

I don't see it replacing fb, youtube for video storage or pinterest. Maybe that's not the point.

Excellent initiative, I'm in! I just need to change from my tablet to my computer for the screenshot and the first post... 😎

Here is my first post, not what I had in mind at first but due to cable issues I had to rethink a little... ;-)
https://steemit.com/recipe/@almvide/elder-flower-cider-recipe

I think you did an excellent job! What's this cable talk. Pshaw... LOL
I'm practically drooling over here wondering what this refreshing drink tastes like...and if I'd need a designated driver if I had a few glasses. :)

You will be just fine after one glass, if you have more it is time for the designated driver to make an appearance!

It's been a long time since I let my hair down! :) I've bookmarked the recipe too. Sounds like a fun experiment. I made beer once. It wasn't bad but it could have been better. I admit I was impatient and never tried again.

Beer is even more up my alley! I got into brewing by mistake, my wife wanted some malted barley for a finnish easter dessert called memma and the online store where I bought the barley from had a minimum order so I had to buy a book as well, "How to brew", the rest is history!

I think when I get set up in my forever home I will probably start accumulating the tools to make my own beer and wine again. I'm a little more patient in my "old age." LOL

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I started out with very basic equipment in the kitchen but it soon exploded into an orgy of homebuilt brewing paraphernalia (as all of my new hobbies tend to do...)! Recently I have sold all of that off and bought a self-contained brewing unit, a Brewie. It even has its own WiFi... I'm concentrating on the recipes now, not trying to get the tech working! There might be a post about this experience somewhere in there...🤔

Awesome @almvide - if you're in then I've got your screenshot to get you started.

almvide-challenge.jpg

Let's see if we can cross that finish line together! I might have posted this challenge but I also need this challenge to get back into the habit of posting regularly. I've mentioned in comments to other people too that you are under no obligation to follow me or anyone else who is participating. This challenge is to help you grow and find your tribe. We're just using this challenge to hold you accountable...and you'll potentially earn some SBD and delegated power! :)

Thank you so much @merej99 for the screenshot and the encouraging words! Now I just need to find the transfer cable for my not-so-new camera to get the pictures out for my first post...

Hey @almvide - I'm just checking in to see how you're doing! I'm sniffing around for your second post! :D

I had a day full of family activities yesterday but today it will be much easier to concentrate on entry number two!

@almvide - I'm just checking in on you! :)
You still have plenty of time to get 6 posts done in 7 days. Get in the action, love. You can do this :)

Thank you for the encouraging words @merej99! I have finally sorted my cable issues and will try my hand at writing a photography post this afternoon.

Oh good! I'm not ready to put any nails in anyone's coffin... yet. LOL
Let me know if you need encouragement or a butt kickin' ;)

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @almvide

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

YAY @almvide - I was getting ready to chase you down. :)
We are going to start posting links to the sister post at this link because this one is getting too long! I have you marked down and you can see everyone's progress on the spreadsheet. There is a link to it from the new post :)

Oh, great! It WAS starting to get rather hard to find your way around the first post and all the comments!

@merej99... When I first came across the post, I just scanned through and log back out of the page. But on reflecting on some sentences of your post, I decided to give it a try... What doesn't kill you make you stronger

As such... Challenge accepted.... But the 500 comments is really a challenge indeed..
IMG_20170708_170654_042.jpg

Would send in my first post later today...

I am really glad that you're going to give this a try @dean-mno

Worst case scenario, you don't get to the end. But I'm hoping you DO and that you find value in this exercise. It's one part accountability, one part determination, and 100% heart. You've got to love what you do and push those boundaries in order to grow. Yell if you need a lifeline. :)

Will definitely be pushing major boundaries to achieve this contest... Will definitely wail like a baby when I need that lifeline @merej99

Today you might get a boot to kick you into gear. LOL Don't forget to come back and share your daily post links! :D

my first entry into the challenge @merej99..https://steemit.com/life/@dean-mno/to-cara-first-crush

@dean-mno - excellent job on your very first poem!

I'm popping in with a quick message to see how you're doing. Do you have a link for the Community Engagement Challenge?

Would submit the third post later today... @merej99

Hey there! I know life gets hectic but you're doing a heck of a great job! Do what you can and we will help you along the way whenever and wherever we can, okay? :)

Some recommendations for your post
You've got to boost the word count by about 100 words. It's too short to officially qualify for the challenge BUT I'm including it in the Daily Diary in the hopes that you will expand your text a little. It may sound like a lot but it is pretty simple and goes quickly if you write a short one paragraph introduction before your first picture. You could include that it was an assignment or how you selected the subject to paint...which, by the way, is really fantastic! Tell us a little bit about how you feel about this art piece. <3

Corrected..... Done and dusted. Yesterday was hectic course I had loads of assignments to cover.
And this is my entry for the third day;
https://steemit.com/art/@dean-mno/a-leafed-motif-wall-hanging.. Keep on the good work @merej99.... stay beautiful

I think you're pretty darned awesome too!

Will you be doing a follow up post? Do you still need to paint the wall hanging?
Pace yourself @dean-mno - we'll do our best to get you over the finish line :)

Lol... Well. am still undecided on whether I will paint or not.... The work has to go through firing successfully then we will see ....

Trust you to provide the helping hand @merej99

How hot do those kilns get?

What a great opportunity for keeping me accountable for my own activity! After a certain point my eyes has finally opened: Steemit is another chance in life we have to stop thinking so much about the "ME" and start thinking about the "WE." as you say.

My goal isn't winning any prizes. I just embrace the chance to plug myself into a healthy workflow. It will allow me to gain a bit more SP and become the next @papa-pepper at a different part of the world. Because for me Steemit is all about spreading freedom, end poverty and change the world.

If I can count correctly, my entry is #23.

Thank you for this amazing comment and for sharing your goals @steemfluencer

The outreach on Steemit is second to none compared to ANY other platform. We can truly build a gift economy and I've seen it in action! Take a look at some #payitforward initiatives and people who have called out for help because they were seriously in a bad spot. Some are here to give and receive moral support more than financial support. Our veterans are a great example of this.

You can change the world one person at a time so let's see if we can't help you grow your outreach and your message. :)

Post #2. It's the amazing story of a man who's dream is to help others achieve their own simple dreams. Such people are so rare that sometimes I have the impression that he has jumped from the fairy tales. Needless to say that this is a #payitforward post.

The Two Sides of the Coin
https://steemit.com/payitforward/@steemfluencer/the-two-sides-of-the-coin

I love #payitforward initiatives! I just left a comment on your post. Do you personally know this person? I ask because it will go a long way in raising confidence for a brand new Steemit account. I will do some research as well. If all looks legit I definitely plan to do a post for him too.

Hello @merej99 - please do plan a post. I hope you saw my reply to your comment under my #payitforward post. In case you've missed it, here's a link:

https://steemit.com/payitforward/@steemfluencer/the-two-sides-of-the-coin#@steemfluencer/re-merej99-2017710t91655684z

I've met with him last week. I've initially spotted a documentary movie about him at the end of 2016. I've always thought for a way to help him, but due to various life challenges I never had a chance to get in touch with him until recently .

I've joined Steemit last month and connecting the dots one night I decided that the opportunity to help him has finally appeared. I got in touch with him on Thursday, June 28 and met with him on the next morning.

He came at the central bus station, took me with his car and next few hours we spent discussing various topics at the so called 'home', which is currently a renovated former veterinary clinic.

I'm currently spending most of my time in Sofia, the Bulgarian capital. I was in touch with him for the last few days to coordinate everything and thanks God, I can rely on the help of another volunteer who lives in the same town.

Post #1. Fortunately we are sooner or later allowed to realize that what really matters lays beyond our ego:

Collect the Gems You Can Hold Forever
https://steemit.com/life/@steemfluencer/collect-the-gems-you-can-hold-forever

"Fortunately we are sooner or later allowed to realize that what really matters lays beyond our ego"

For some reason my mother came to mind after reading this quote. After my father died, no one else's grief seemed to matter to her. No one could possibly hurt as much as she does. Well, that's what she told me in no uncertain terms. And I responded, "Mom, you aren't the only one who hurts and grieves. If you just turn to us (her children) instead of turning inside, you might heal faster." Sadly, she's still turned inward and I've had to put some distance because it was getting toxic.

It could take more time, but I'm sure you won't stop loving her. At he end this will matter the most.

Oh yes, I will always love her. She's blood! But, just like I tell my kids, we have our good and bad days. We love each other no matter what BUT we don't have to like each other all the time. LOL It's a healthy dose of reality.

I'm adding #payitforward to my list. I've crossed on it in my first days here and the just forgot about it. Thanks @merej99! :)

Post #4: I've really put a lot of efforts in the creation of:

How to Use the Pixar Story Telling Model to Write Your Next Steemit Post

I love the story behind Pixar and how they tell stories. I have not read this yet but I'm really looking forward to it!
And look at you! 4 posts down. 3 more to go to reach the minimum! Woohoo! Are you feeling confident that you'll make it to the finish line?

Post #3. A productivity related post. Smaller town = less stress = increased productivity and quality of life:

A Small Village vs A Big City: A Short Productivity Analysis

I'm definitely a small village kind of gal.

Post recommendations:

@steemfluencer, you have a great featured picture and an awesome title. The next thing to focus on is the first 100 characters of your post. This is the trifecta for helping your post gain the most potential views.

FEATURED PIC - FIRST 100 CHARACTERS - TITLE

And you want the first 100 characters to be placed before your picture citation.

Here's a screenshot of your post and how it appears to the rest of the world BEFORE they click on it. Tease us with a good bit of intro text and you should potentially see more traffic to your blogs. :)

Hey, thank you for taking the time to provide a feedback! I got it. Should have seen it by myself, however my attention was spread to other important issues...

Seeing how I'm doing all these things already anyways, I'm in.

I'll add a screenshot of my home page when I'm home at my laptop later. In the meantime I've upvoted and resteemed this post. Great idea!

Woohoo @luzcypher - you should have NO problem getting this done. I grabbed your screenshot because I know you're good for it. The rest is up to you :)

Just watched this great political satirist and just had to share it. When you get some time to watch would love to hear people's thoughts on some of these episodes.

https://steemit.com/politics/@luzcypher/have-you-seen-democracy-handbook-with-bassem-youssef-political-satire-at-it-s-best

I said, "Okay, I'll watch one." and ended up watching 6 episode! The man is brilliant and funny! I just went to his YouTube channel and followed him. LOL It's painful to see how ignorant some people are. sigh

Same happened to me. I thought I would watch one but couldn't stop. Ignorance is the new cool. God help us.

Here's a quick little post in keeping my word with the Steemit community and a tip for signing people up to Steemit. https://steemit.com/steemit/@luzcypher/i-get-by-with-a-little-help-from-my-friends-keeping-my-word-with-the-community

This is great @luzcypher You do so much for the community. I'm really glad that we have stayed connected. :)
[edit] AND you have officially reached the minimum post requirements for this challenge! AND, you're only about 150 comments away from being in the prize pool! Woohoo! :)

Cool. I love your challenge and how it brings us all together. Looks like some other's have pitched into the rewards pool too. That's great! I've read some good posts thanks to this idea of yours. Thank you.

On my end, I think the amazing people in Steemit found me! I'm so glad I didn't have to hunt and peck for quality contributors. There are some real gems and unsung heroes in this group.

I learn something every day on Steemit. There are many gems here.

Internet was down here for a day and a half. I got some catching up to do. Anyways, spent the time on a catamaran in the Caribbean and this is a post about it.

https://steemit.com/travel/@luzcypher/heaven-is-a-place-on-earth-riding-waves-like-pirates-of-the-caribbean-in-puerto-aventuras-mexico

Amazing photos and amazing fun from the look of it! I'm jealous!

I got to step away from the computer a couple days a week or I'll go crazy. This is a good place to be for instant paradise right outside your door. It's like stepping outside into a living screensaver scene. 😁

There are a few people who live in Baja who are trying to convince me of the same. LOL I have to say, it's quite tempting!

I lived in Cabo for a year. Drier climate much like Southern California.

Ok, I found time to make another post after replying to comments most of the day.

Here's my post today. https://steemit.com/travel/@luzcypher/xenses-theme-park-in-mexico-challenges-your-perceptions-and-ignites-your-imagination

That's 3 down with 4 to go and you have until the 18th! I'd say you're ahead of the game @luzcypher :)

Keep an eye out for the sister post to this monster. Everyone including myself is finding that it takes forever for this page to load. LOL I guess that's a good thing?

Excellent!
I have this also scheduled to go into the next Daily Diary.
Only 5 more posts to go in order to reach minimum post requirements. Let's rock this thing! :D

Sorry, it took me so long to add links. I just did 10 hours of responding to comments and posting on Steemit. This is Steemit Open Mic where most of the comments and upvotes I do are on the entries posts and not so much on my post. https://steemit.com/openmic/@luzcypher/steemit-open-mic-41-record-your-performance-on-your-phone-enter-and-win-steem-sponsored-by-pfunk-and-luzcypher

So glad to see you posting links! I was just about to send out another reminder about it. I don't want to leave any soldiers behind. LOL

I've got this post scheduled to go into the next daily diary :) Woot!

Very cool. Thanks. I have been responding to comments all day today too. I add comments to all of the people who enter Steemit Open Mic on their blogs too, not just mine. I keep the responses simple on the contest post and leave more thoughtful comments on their blogs.

Thanks. I just came back to add the screenshot and there it is already. Thank you. This is going to be fun and what a great idea for a challenge. This will really help build community engagement. Let the fun begin!

I know your community engagement is above par! Let's get your links posted :)

Yeah, yeah! Get some links over here! Time's a tickin'!

I hope I can still join in the fun!

Welcome aboard the Community Engagement Challenge!

Yes, today is the last day for people to join the challenge. Be sure to read all the requirements as I will be spot checking to make sure your posts meet the minimum requirement.

I'm not a total ogre though. If you've submitted something and it falls a little short, I will let you know and give you an opportunity to make adjustments so that it does qualify! Good luck and let me know if you need help with anything :)

Yay! Thanks for what you do @merej99! I actually like leaving thoughtful comments and I think I can have that covered, my main reason for taking on the challenge is consistency on content creation. There would be days that I post a handful and there are days I post nothing at all. So there. Looking forward to completing these tasks!

Content creation has been one of my challenges as well. Keeping up with everyone is kind of curing me of that! LOL
On a positive note, we've got until the 18th to get 7 posts done. It's up to us to decide if it's going to be easy-peasy or easier said than done :)

Haha I know! Another busy day for me that nearly ended without me posting anything! Glad to have made one at least. Here it goes:

I have this post on the spreadsheet. Please use this link https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping

I know I'm a bit late, but I'll try my best. 🙂

@ana-maria entering challenge stats

@ana-maria - no need to respond to this comment but I've got a new page set up for links now. This one is getting too long! I'm afraid of missing someone and my computer is starting to rebel. LOL

Don't worry about posting this link unless you want to. I've already got it listed on the spreadsheet. :) Keep up the great work!

hmmmmm - Couldn't find my last post listed on Day 4, so I put both of my current entries under the comments on the Sister Post, and I'll keep editing that comment with adding new entries. Hope that's how you wanted it to work (if I understood well). 🙂

Spot checking on you! How are you doing? You've got 6 more posts to go and you have until the 18th. You can do this. :) The 300 word minimum per post can be achieved. Let me know if you need a writing prompt for some ideas :)

Thank you very much for your support, @merej99. 🙂
It's not the question of the lack of ideas, but the lack of time.
Although, I'm not planning to give up. 😉

Welcome to the Community Engagement Challenge @ana-maria

We are going to do everything we can to help you achieve a win :) I will be swinging around again to post a proper comment on your link but I've got it scheduled to be listed in the Day 3 Diary :) Yell out if you need help with anything! :)

@merej99, what a marvelous initiative! For me, this is about everything that makes Steemit such an awesome venue: Quality content, engagement, and mutual support.

I know I'm just on the very edge of being able to join here, but it's still 7/9 here in the Pacific timezone, so I'd love to toss my hat into the ring... I hope you'll accept my "colorchallenge" post from a short while ago as my first post... it's pretty much the only way I can sneak one in today; it does meet the overall criteria.

So CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Woohoo @denmarkguy! Welcome to the challenge!

You got in with a day to spare and a lot of comments to do. It's not impossible though! With this monster I've managed over 250 comments in 2 days. Of course, showering was kind of optional. LOL
I'll be swinging by with comments for your 2 posts but they are planned for the Day 3 Diary :)

I don't envy you the task of keeping up with all this-- you must be very well organized!

For me, a large part of the joy and fun of doing this is getting to know so many other Steemians who "care about the content."

What's nice too is that every one of these guys (and gals) are putting forth a Herculean effort and I'm hoping the community in general recognizes them as quality content creators.

I nearly cried scrolling through the junk on the NEW tab. I will do everything in my power to make sure this beloved platform stays smart, innovative, educational, and still remain fun...even if I snag 1 - or 40 people - at a time. LOL :P

Here's today's official post for July 11th-- describing something strange and unusual that happened to me when I was 10 and had... what I think was a "Near Death Experience."

https://steemit.com/life/@denmarkguy/when-i-was-ten-years-old-i-fell-out-of-a-tree-and-died

Okay then! I haven't read the post yet but your title definitely got my attention! LOL

@merej99, here's today's post for July 10th-- on the tricky topic of finding meaning and importance on life... in the shadow of my mother's death, 8 years ago:

https://steemit.com/philosophy/@denmarkguy/the-search-for-meaning-and-importance-does-it-matter

Responding to myself is a bit weird, but in addition...

Resteemed this post... just in case there are any other stragglers/late comers.

Sent you 10 SBD towards the prize/bonus fund.

If you will accept my first post as my just written (couple of hours ago) color challenge post. here it is-- and yes, it does meet criteria... and is an example of how a "color challenge" post can easily have 300 words... just tell a little story to go with the images!

https://steemit.com/colorchallenge/@denmarkguy/colorchallenge-sunday-purple-what-s-purple-a-garden-walk-photography

I love this!- I'm inspired and although I'm nervous, I feel this is an excellent challenge, and I'm in! Thanks for your encouragement and passion for this platform and the community it builds. I've only been on here a few weeks and I can see its strength already. Thanks again @merej99! I will do my best!
7-8-17 blog header.png

You are doing an awesome job so far! How's your post/comment count coming along? You making headway on it?

Slowly but surely! Thanks @merej99! I doubt I'll make 500 but I'm finding so much value in this community by connecting and having conversations.

Eh? What's this?!?

You've already got 99 comments and now you've got 4 posts under your belt. You know what that means? 401 comments and only 3 more posts go to and you have until the 18th to get it done. I have faith in you.

Ahhhhh hahaha thanks for the faith in me! I need it!!!

From where I'm sitting, you've already got this nailed down. No worries!

Your support is awesome! Thanks for being so encouraging - even if i don't hit all the targets, this already has been so worthwhile.

I cannot WAIT to try this recipe! You've just nurtured my love of kiwis in a fresh wonderful way!

so glad I saw you post this! I was getting ready to chase some people down. LOL

Eek am I doing it right? ::nervous::

It's perfect. LOL
There are a few people that signed up but haven't posted a link.
And some people are just taking a day off Steem. I'm just posting reminders because... I'm trying to get my post count up too. :P

Awesome thanks, now i can exhale :)

YAY! This is amazing! The more the merrier and I love the fact that I'm finding amazing new to me people to follow. Thank you for joining in @jaymorebeet!

Aww shucks! Steemit gives me the warm and fuzzies! Thanks right back atcha!

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @jaymorebeet

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

OK @merej99 I'm in.
header.JPG

But you can keep the 150 SBD & the delegated SP (or delegate it to #minnowsupport).

All I want is a nice clean sandbox to play in.

That's awesome @theblindsquirl

A mighty fine initiative #minnowsupport
I've got you officially listed in the spreadsheet and looking forward to your content and interaction! Welcome aboard - you can find clean sand in the pantry along with the coffee IVs :)

Thank god you didn't say coffee enemas. ;-)

Gotcha! Thank you!
I did create a new post for our daily links as my laptop is beginning to howl every time I visit this page. LOL

https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping

Don't worry about adding this latest link (unless you want to). I've got it logged on the spreadsheet already :)

OK, thanks.

I'll put tomorrow's there.

I'm really just using this as incentive to post something every day.

And for that, Thank you.

I'm really glad to hear this. Everyone has a reason for joining. I just want to see everyone succeed :)

meep

I love you @ionlysaymeep

meep

ROFLMAO - those are only used in very desperate times! hahaha

I'm in. Let's do this. I absolutely love challenges! I have been here for 11 days now, and I don't plan on slowing my momentum down anytime soon :P Let's go!

SECOND POST: My first post to hit $50+ :D

HERE'S POST 2

I love this post on mindset! Great points and good exercises with real life examples. :)
The only recommendation that I would have is to limit the emoticons in your title and especially do not use it as the first character. I'll have to find the citation but I think it may hamper google search?

Thanks for that. To be honest, this entire platform is word of mouth and relationships.. I would much rather sacrifice being seen on Google, to have my posts look unique with the blue icon :) Now let go make some friends!!

I am loving your enthusiasm! Woot woot @enazwahsdarb "future billionaire!"

I'm personally striving to be a crypto millionaire. LOL
Make sure you read through all the guidelines and don't forget to bookmark this page so you can post the daily link in your thread. Since you're new to me I'll definitely be checking out your blog. You are under no obligation to follow me or anyone else in this challenge. This is an exercise for your Steemit growth in a healthy atmosphere. What you do with this challenge is up to you. ;)

Awesome thanks for that. I gave you a follow :) If you want to be a crypto millionaire, then you will love my latest post.

You can view it here:

WHERE CAN YOU INVEST YOUR MONEY IN 2017? 🕓🔥

By the way, can I use the post just before that one for this challenge? I posted it a few hours before the challenge, but it recieved the 2nd highest comments for the day :) Would be nice

WooHOO!! . . another SEO Specialist. YES!

:D :D :D Let's do this!! :P

FIRST POST: I made this just before the challenge :)

HERE'S POST 1

This should be fine and I'm including it in the Daily Diary. The only thing that you may miss out on is comments count from the moment you shared the screenshot of your header as the start point. :)

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @enazwahsdarb

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

DAY 4 - Sorry, I lost the link to this post, forgot to post :) But have been consistent every single day!

FOURTH POST HERE

@enazwahsdarb please use https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping for future links and check the spreadsheet to be certain I haven't missed your challenge posts.

When you get to the sister site, please be sure to scroll down or use CTRL+F to find your name/thread. Thank you.

DAY 5 - I am as of right now, 400 total posts done so far for this challenge :) Feeling motivated!

FIFTH POST HERE

Excellent post dear friend @ merej99 first of all congratulations for this great initiative, I admire your way of being, always thinking of actively contributing with the platform and the users.
I do not know if I can fulfill all the objectives but I am included to support this great initiative
I wish you a great weekend

@jlufer, my friend! I am so glad that you are going to join this challenge.

We started around the same time in Steemit and we are the mentors of those yet to come! I know you will very easily reach the 500 post/comments challenge but perhaps the biggest challenge is trying to limit daily posts to 1 or 2 a day~
I explained it to another Steemian, that for one week, if we practice doing no more than 2 posts per day, we can focus on community building and also on the quality of our posts. What happens to me is when I see the same names over and over in rapid succession on my feeds, I become blind to them. Why do people make 10 or more posts a day and earn so little for each, when they could post one or two, build a solid foundation of followers and community members and potentially earn so much more?

You also have the benefit of reaching out to the Spanish speaking community and mentor them as well. Let's do this and get over the finish line together. :) <3

It is true I present 4 post a day, two are of images and one is Spanish they would not enter the challenge, only the post that I publish in English would be the one valid for the contest, if you go through my blog I would see this example, but I will not Preucupes for that, I do not participate to win anything just to support the challenge.

I still think this is the perfect challenge for you! 4 posts is still a lot but you do translate for the Spanish speakers and I can appreciate that! Please do keep playing with us. Post one link a day that we can follow. I cannot deny the quality of your posts and your connection with the community. That would be silly of me. :)

Do not worry about that dear friend @ merej99, I will post only two pos for the days that the challenge lasts one in Spanish and the other in English, from tomorrow you will only see two publications in my blog.
Have a beautiful day.

I think you're amazing! Thank you for taking on this challenge. Can you believe we have 30 people signed up? I'm working on my post right now :D

Hello, love! I'm going to help you out a little because I saw your posts for the Community Engagement Challenge in my feed. Those links need to be posted here or they might be missed for the daily diary!

Just so we have it on record, you have 3 posts so far. I am going to link them in this thread.

  1. https://steemit.com/challenge/@jlufer/challenged-merej99-day-1-the-innocence-of-my-people-original-work
  2. https://steemit.com/challenge/@jlufer/challenged-merej99-day-2-thank-you-steemit-is-changing-my-life
  3. https://steemit.com/gardening/@jlufer/challenged-merej99-day-3-regional-organic-food-i-invite-you-to-know-all-the-secrets-and-benefits-of-garlic

If you could post your link here that would help me out a lot! <3

Okay, this is a good challenge, I'm gonna do it. Further, I'm gonna try to make my 7 (minimum) posts my best music review writing yet. I may start with those tomorrow though, as it's a little late. I'm determined to really test myself here!

Screen_Shot_2017_07_08_at_7_56_12_PM

I'm looking forward to seeing your reviews @fungusmonk ...don't let it get away from you...and good luck!

Thanks, I'll try not to! If you scroll through my page, there are some old reviews you can look through if you're interested.

@fungusmonk steps up to the plate to join our challenge!

I love it and I am really looking forward to seeing those music reviews! We've got an AMAZING music community and I'm certain that you'll be nestled in that group in no time!

Oh, I'm already in a little bit! I had the good fortune to become aware of and then quite promptly meet @jessamynorchard of the Steemit Local Music Society, who performed (very well!) at @stellabelle's Kansas City Steem Party. I'm trying to regularly submit to @luzcypher's open mic as well, to get back in the habit of practicing my music, and to have something to work toward with that.

You were there??? Aw man, I am so jealous! My goal is to get my butt to some of these meet ups! My ultimate goal is to be at Steemfest2! I wasn't in a good place last year and couldn't attend. This year it's a mission. :D

Yeah! It was really nice, Stella made the perfect steem cupcakes. Steemfest is a little out of my reach personally, but good luck!

I saw the pictures and it really looked like everyone had so much fun.
As for Steemfest... the will is there. Now I need to save up for it... oh... and get a passport. That's kind of important. lol

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @fungusmonk

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

Gotcha!
One of these days you're going to have to share the story behind your username. For some unknown reason the word "fungus" makes me happy. LOL

It's a pretty short story actually, it came from a band name generator when I was in middle school hahaha

That's so funny!
I wonder what my "band name" would be. LOL

Sweet! These are both going to be listed in the Day 3 Diary post. I'll swing back around for a decent comment. LOL
This project is a BEAST! :P

OK, Mere, here's my screen shot, hoping I'm not too late to the party? I only "got around to" reading this article today...

Hi, M!

My "Quality Post for the Day" post for Day 5:

"Killer Big Waves - A True Surfing Story"

Hi @creatr - thanks for putting this link on the new page. No worries about responding to this comment! I'm just doing a final sweep so I don't miss anyone who maybe didn't get the memo.

Aw, shucks, Mere, I can't help but respond to your comments! :D

Will this article I wrote earlier today count as my "Quality Post for the Day," even though I wrote it and posted it before I tried to enter your challenge?

"Seven Compelling Reasons to Enable "Perpetual EDIT" for Content Creators"

Hey @creatr! I have a little fudge room to include this post. The only thing you'd really miss out on is how many comments you may have left in the 3 hour gap since you've joined. :D I was just scrolling through to see if I missed any stragglers and here you are! YAY!!!

I've got your post in the Day 3 Diary :)

Thank you, Dear!

I don't know if I'll be able to succeed in meeting the requirements, but I thought I ought to at least "throw my hat into the ring." ;)

Absolutely @creatr - I know your community engagement and outreach is no problem. Between your posts and comments you should definitely have this covered. I'll help in any way that I can :)

Thanks! :D

I'm kinda struggling with the latest changes... Can't say I'm particularly happy with having to "throttle" my voting... :(

But, trying to "roll with the punches" and steem on... :D

I've managed to vote all of the challenge posts at 20% and almost all comments between 1 and 10% and still keep my vote strength in the 80s and 90s. I have to change my mindset. Before HF19, my 100% upvote was barely $1. With the falling price of SBD and STEEM and a decrease in upvote slider, I've noticed that my 20% vote is about $0.61 cents. It's a drop but I'm still searching for par. :)

Here's my "Quality Post for the Day," is this the right place to put it?

"Is ~Faith~ Vitally Important to Healing?"

Hmmm...3 days late to the party....500 comments.....7 posts....

When I make it...I'd appreciate it if you would donate my share of winnings to Chris. @merej99 BootCamp Here I come.

You got it, babe! Get me your links!

Welcome to the Community Engagement Challenge!
We're going to do our best to help everyone succeed so let's get busy! Woot!

Second Link:https://steemit.com/milestone/@lexikon082/the-super-milestone-power-up-update-post
No mic dropping today. I have some comments to make. Oh but I do have one question. What are your thoughts of giving credit for creative commons no attribution required works?

I've got your link on the spreadsheet and will be checking in and leaving comments on your posts soon. :) This final sweep is kind of crazy for tonight's post. LOL

As for creative commons... I think it's important to leave at least a small citation at the bottom of the post. You don't need to link back to the source but it does help (even subconsciously) for you readers know that you've done your due diligence. If you find that you use CC for the majority of your posts, a little footnote in the footer is more than appropriate...but be aware because there are several CC licenses and most people do not take the time to read the difference. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/

Which begs the question... What kind of forum are we? If we're making money on our posts, is this a commercial endeavor? hmm....

Yes, the commercial endeavor question is a great one. Also, what happens if you do post content and then are contacted by the creator to take the content down and you can't after seven days. I have been trying to figure out how to format for CC licenses for material that requires attribution. You must include author, cc license, disclaimer and one or two other things. I have just been trying to use pixabay CC0, no attribution for most of my stuff.

Thanks for letting me know you did receive the post. Looking forward to your comments.

That is exactly why I try to stay away from google searches for photos and use pixabay CC0 if I'm not using my own art or photos. I don't want to worry about the headache should something like that happen. AND being that our stuff is on the blockchain, should we be given a directive to take it down, you're right, we can't edit our posts (which is something I thought we were supposed to be able to do) and we cannot permanently delete it even if we want to! It's still housed on the block. It's definitely an interesting topic.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something. Is that not my Day 1(technically day 3) post link above this comment or are you referring to something else?

I may have commented before I scrolled down some more to see you had already left a link. LOL Either way, we're all good. Your post was in the Day 3 Daily diary :)

Yes, I still need to go over and read the day 3 diary. I will do that now.

@ Merej99
thanks for something new to try it .but challenge accepted .

Okay @mybrp - some tips for this post before it qualifies for the community engagement challenge:

  • the picture needs to be cited from its original source
  • also, if you are quoting from another article, we will need a link to that article as well.

The reason behind proper citations is to allow us, the reader, an opportunity to follow your research. It also protects against claims of plagiarism. Quoting is acceptable if done properly. :) I have some academic writing background and I can tell you even copying from your own blog is a no-no unless you let your audience know that is was written on another forum. It's good policy and keeps you and Steemit (the platform) out of trouble.

If you can make edits to those things, I will include it in the next Daily Diary :) Best wishes!

That's excellent @mybrp - be sure to include the screenshot of your Steemit header so we can see your start numbers! We're here to help if you need us. :)

Welcome to the Community Engagement Challenge @mybrp!

I hope that we can help you nurture and grow your Steemit community and that you can find some helpful tips and best practices along the way. I'll be reviewing your posts and leaving comments as we go through this challenge together :) Welcome aboard!

@mybrp - the second post has the same issues as the first. We need citations for your illustrations and citations for any text. This helps the community know that you've done your due diligence in research or, if citing your own work, that you are an authority on the subject. Once these adjustments are made we can include them in the Daily Diary. Until them, I'm sorry, they do not qualify for the challenge.

@ Merej99, thanks for writing me back , but i couldn't got what do you mean by same issues ,
does it need post form different topics , as i am a Yoga instructor hence most of my posts will be yoga and pranayama related only .
if you can clarify more on this that will really help me

Hi @mybrp - your topics are just fine and definitely give value but they are in the gray area as far as unique content. Lists and step-by-steps are more likely to be investigated for plagiarism because it's very easy to copy and paste content from other sources.

So, it's not so much your content but how you are presenting it and making it uniquely yours.
How can you do this?
By adding small anecdotes to each position
Explain the whys
Share insights into what they should be experiencing, which muscles they should feel, where their mindset should be... Things like that authenticate you as a professional in the field; someone that can be trusted.

A list of exercises and technique will not do that.

Thanks for your help and support . my aim is to make steemit the biggest shearing platform

Oh boy... this is going to be hard for me (I think?) but I'm going to give it a shot! I really want to grow in Steemit the correct way. I may fail, but I will give this my best! Thank you @merej99 for pushing me, pushing us, to be better!

SteemitStart.PNG

That motion ride looks like fun...or something I could sleep in. LOL
It's kind of neat that your son needed a little prompt to remember there was a reward! :D

In the trying you do and in doing you gain experience. The best teacher there is...yes/no?

Best of luck to you @greenacrehome !

@cryptologyx I could a swore I replied to you yesterday on this, I'm sorry!!!

You are so right... thank you for the encouragement and luck... I'll need it! :-)

quite alright, seems there's an explanation for this disappearing gremlin...have a look at my top resteem...worth your time imo ;)

@greenacrehome said YES to the challenge!

Indeed, it's going to test your mettle, your will, your patience. Heck, if you obsess, it may even keep you awake at night. But wait... I think I was talking about me. LOL
Seriously though - 300 words may sound like a lot. It's not. Really. And I'm hoping that you get to the end successfully, but if you fall a little short, perhaps you'll take away some good lessons. If you try your best, there is no failure. Period. Welcome aboard!

Thank you for the encouragement, here goes nothing! :-)

Happiness!
As my dad used to say, "Gird your loins!" LOL

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @greenacrehome

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

Hi @greenacrehome - we're adding new post links to https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping because this one is way too cumbersome. No problemo though. I've got this one logged in the spreadhseet and it's set to be published in the next update :)

The large font definitely helps with finding posts! LOL Thank you! :D
I may be starting a sister thread because this one is getting a little CRAZY.

@merej99 is there a way to track our daily comment output?

@greenacrehome, I'm pretty sure there is an app out there somewhere but I'll be darned if I can remember what it is. The easiest way to track would be to write down your daily comments count before you go to bed. If I find that app, I'll be sure to share it. :)

I accept...with great trepidation. I have spent my first three weeks here surfing the feeds. Commenting and upvoting as I go.

More than the following I have gained I have discovered what wonderful people Steemit has/is attracting. ~smiles~ I just got "meep"ed this morning!

Some may think me lazy because I only seem to resteem other's posts. I don't feel I have to explain myself as it has helped me get at least a rudimentary understanding of what curation is. I will read the link provided above.

I have posted a few or five times and experienced the same as the vast majority of new Steemians here...regardless the quality of their content. However I have also gained much encouragement...and with that the courage to accept your challenge.

Thank you @merej99 for this wonderful intiative in engaging members of the community. Minnows and whales alike ~smiles~ so inclusive of you. Some will definitely be stepping into deeper waters and out of their comfort zone.

I do have one question however. The comments received will undoubtedly be some of those...pesky/pesty ones. Are we required to respond to them in order to reach our goal of 500 comments answered?

Again, thank you for your love of the Steemit community. You are part of the reason I have chosen not to wander off into the void. I'm glad the waves of steem brought me here. I have yet to begin my journey but I do believe it is time for me to learn how to use the markdown guide and begin sharing more of myself with others. Wish me luck. This is NOT going to be easy for me.

~smiles~ I'm a steem surfer...not a writer...dammit!
Capture blog page.JPG
~may all hatred cease...let there be peace~

My first post and my first try with the Markdown guide. The learning curve is going to get much steeper over the next 10 ...9 days...and me...osmosis man...lol...I CAN DO IT !

https://steemit.com/steemit/@cryptologyx/what-don-t-you-like-about-steemit

You made me ink. LOL
Actually, I snarfed my drink! If your post is any indication, YOU GOT THIS!

High praise indeed! Thank you so much for the encouragement.

Can't help wondering why you would be drinking ink. Hot or cold...and what everyone wants to know...what colour is it?

~smiles fer miles~

I'm so glad to see you joining our challenge @cryptologyx

To answer some of your questions about the comments. I should rephrase to say that you do not have to respond to SPAM messages. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. If I see that they've been a serial spam commentator, then they get ignored for the most part.
And also... Sometimes conversation threads finish. We don't want the endless good-bye either. LOL that would be ridiculous! :)
So, let's get you out of the comfort zone! I noticed you posted a link and I will be visiting soon.
This brings me to another point that I've mentioned on a few other threads... You are not obligated to follow me or anyone else in this challenge. We want you to find YOUR tribe and build that community! If I see something striking, I may post some unsolicited advice. I don't mean to offend anyone by it. My evil plan is to help grow better bloggers in this exercise :) Good luck and shout out if you need help!

Thank you, I'll try not to trouble the other contestants. ~smiles~ Yes long good-byes can be awkward, others must reach their natural conclusion as there is no ready private chat available, but I do understand.

What I don't get is this idea of MY tribe. Everybody's different and interests range wide and cross over. I like to think that anyone here at Steemit can choose to follow me...or not. As I them.

Perhaps I am missing the point of Steemit. It'll come to me eventually I'm sure. Thank you again for your reply to my question. I'll deal with the "spammers" the best I can. However will responding to them count towards the 500 qualifier?

Oh yes, responding to spammers counts toward your post count. Remember, the ticker in the header doesn't care. LOL And you don't even need to leave long comments to them. They don't deserve too much attention.

So, the idea of YOUR tribe...
Well, I can only express what my tribe is! You ever see that movie The Breakfast Club? I kind of consider myself the basket case. LOL And yet, for a brief moment in time, I hang out with the jock, the princess, the criminal, and the geek (brain) and yet there's something that draws us together. What is it? A shared experience? A love of something? A wacky sense of humor? Who knows! But it's magic when you find it. :)

Some are language challenged on top of understandable nervousness and can be coaxed out if you're honest and gentle...like a lost kitten afraid of the world. And yes many are just hell bent to make $20.00 a month and really...who can blame them if it puts food on the table and the fuel to cook it with.

I do get the tribe analogy, I am Scottish Canadian after all...from both sides. I'm the baaa baaa baalaaack sheep of the family...but I ain't no sheeple. Kinda more like a wander'n fool look to see which village is safe to stay the night in. I haven't had any stones thrown at me here in Steemit...so this does seem a place where I might/could do well to settle in for a spell. Hell I might even take of my heavy rags and mask and adopt a tribe...but I would prefer to think I'm all of those characters you mention...to some degree or another.

Magic is what you make when you feel good...it just flows. Lovely to be getting to know you. ~smiles~

It's insights like this that really help me connect with people. I am also the black sheep of the family! I'm totally misunderstood by my blood relatives so I look elsewhere for my family. Those characters... LOL I relate most to the basketcase but I can be a princess and a geek too. We all have different masks for different people but essentially we are the same person on the inside.

Nothing is preventing someone who speaks a different language from joining this challenge either. In fact, I hope a few people adopt this challenge in different languages and run with it.

Hey @cryptologyx - I'm working on the day 2 diary! Have you got a post for today? Get that link to me, love. :)

It's been a very busy day today my dear friend. I did manage to get some pics to go with my next post...now to collect them all in one place and maybe try to figure out how to wrap words around them like I know what I'm doing. I've just woke up from a much needed five hour sleep and am now enjoying a coffee while down/uploading from my phone.

Had just thought how I'd like to bring my favorite teacher a BIG shiny red apple on my second day. Simply impossible so I hope this will win me some brownie points. ;p

DaaAAaammmm...seemed to have lost the lovely box of edit tools you left somewhere along our giddy getting to know you spoor of last night. I'm afraid you'll just have to accept this unwrapped.

ROFLMAO! Lovin' the cartoon! I resemble that. :D
Yes, this life stuff can get in the way, can't it? Ah, Steemit... I fear I'm obsessed.

GENERIC MESSAGE FOR @cryptologyx

I'm getting organized! Please include the link to future challenge posts here. You do not have to copy your previous links if they have already been added to the Daily Diary. Thank you! <3 Meredith

Hi Meredith, I am 100% certain you're running full out to keep up with everything. Just wanted to let you know I've cleaned up my second post, lost some links, changed the title and the first line.

Here's the link https://steemit.com/photography/@cryptologyx/theiving-colour-like-a-flash-in-the-night ...ok that's strange...I cahnged the title but it doesn't show in the link. Now I'm wondering if only I am seeing the edit. No matter...this one's not getting much play anyway...swing 'n a miss.

Sill have many more miles of words and smiles to go. I really could use a link to your edit tool too...if you can find the time...wait...I'll try the search tool and see what comes up.

Anyway...I hope you're still happy with what you've gotten yourself into here. It looks to be a huge succes...they're going to need a dedicated server just for this post by the time it's done. haha...you probably need three clones yourself about now...truly wish there was some way I could help. Let me know <3

EDIT: I found your beautiful red toolbox...don't know why so many people have trouble with the search tool...anyway...one less thing you have to do...hahaha...glad I could help.

~smiles fer miles~

I'll be swing by for a proper response. LOL Trying to get the diary info collected and posted for Day 3 :)

here's my third dear teacher mine...a bit different tac but certainly could've divvied it up and got three out of it ...but that would be like me telling myself to shut up ;-)
https://steemit.com/psychology/@cryptologyx/a-little-rant-a-little-rip-n-a-whole-lotta-something-else

oh and a change to my header...something else I say and live by...not much change in the numbers...they come and go but that's fine by me...those who left are always welcomed back.

Be good to yourself ~smiles fer miles~

All right! Look at your numbers! According to my spreadsheet you've grown your followers and your posts and even went up a point in rep score! We've got until the 18th to boost those numbers and I'm confident we're going to do it! :)

I've got your post scheduled to be listed in the next Daily Diary :) Just getting caught up on posts I haven't read yesterday! The Beast is not gonna get the best of me! hahaa!!!

here's number four teach...couldn't figure out the edit tools...hope I got this in time https://steemit.com/photography/@cryptologyx/beer-label-porn-you-know-you-wanna much <3 'n ~smiles~

Oh dear, how much time do I have left? I'm experiencing technical difficulties. Specifically increasingly regular blue screem mini data dumps...lol...did I just type screem? I'll leave it as is as I think you get a better feel for what I'm currently going through.

I've twice lost my work in the past 3 hrs. Grrrrrr...I'm going to try a different tactic and scratch what I've been working on. I need some clarification on some things. First, how much time is left to get this posted for your diary? Secondly, did you find the wayward editing tool box?

Thirdly, but most important, am I allowed to use my own video and can I have people in it without getting their permission if it was taken in public? Or is a public music fest considered a sponsored event, therefor images or steaming of performers and attending public sole property of the sponsors and the musicians?

~smiles~ I thought you would like that cartoon.

hmmm... okay, on the first question: We are focused on doing 1 to 2 posts per day so if your posts are within the guidelines you can write 2 but only share one a day for this challenge.

Second: the editing tool box? You lost me. Are you talking about the Steemit editor in lieu of markdown?

Third: GOOD QUESTION! While I would think your video is perfectly fine it does beg the question, is it okay if you didn't get permission from the performers or the group. Well... uh... I'm not sure about that. It's not like you've recorded anyone with the intention of reselling the music and the attending public does not generally fall under anyone's copyright (unless you've pilfered snippets from their official music videos). Don't hold me to it, but I think you'll be fine with this. :)

Right...not what I wanted but it's what I got. Now I'm thinking it's just a bunch of click bait. Too much cleverness trying to compensate for lack of skill...obviously. I'm falling asleep at the keyboard here so will have to fix it later...ok teach? ;-)

Here's my second entry... https://steemit.com/photography/@cryptologyx/theiving-colour-like-a-flash-in-the-night It could be my last if I don't figure this flash data dump crash out. I'm thinking it's time to shop around for a new computer.

Enjoy you day!

Challenege accepted

Welcome to the community engagement challenge @kubbyelizabeth

How fierce will the competition be? That is something we're going to have to challenge ourselves with. LOL

Just in case, I've got my first aid kit in case you and @cryptologyx need it. :D

Excellent! Get your screenshot on here and let's get started! I'm looking forward to seeing your posts @kubbyelizabeth :)

My Sunday on Saturday post. :)

@crytologyx, are you competing with me?

All right! I went over and left some thoughts on your post. :) How are you coming along with comment count? Are you pretty confident that you'll make it?

I live to reply to comments and comment the reply's :) Thanks for hosting, let me get started answering these.

~smiles~ this is gonna be fun!

I'm checking in on a few people to see if they've got links for the Daily Diary :)
How are you holding up so far?

Everyday you want me to post my blog post here?

This is quite a challenge! I am so inconsistent in posting. I sent over $10 SBD to add to your prize pool. I hope this gets me to be more consistent in writing!

I am so happy to see you join in @haphazard-hstead!

I'm finding my own challenge running this thing. May have in fact created a monster! LOL
THANK YOU FOR THE DONATION! It all goes toward the prize pool and if everyone succeeds then we have 32 participants and the cut off date is Wednesday for new people to join. WOW.

But I'm with you! I'm hoping it gets me more consistent with writing too. I kind of fell off the wagon for a couple months. :P

Thanks for the welcome and you are welcome for the donation! Consistency is not my middle name. I'm stable and reliable, but I'm not consistent. So I'm glad for this challenge! I better get back to writing! :O

Yeah, yeah! Crack that whip!

Yep, it would take all 5 of them! :D

Hey love! Just checking to see if you have a post for today! I'm updating the Daily Diary. Git 'er Done! ;)

Hey there @haphazard-hstead
I've got this post on the spreadsheet and we've started a new page at https://steemit.com/challenge/@merej99/sister-post-to-the-beast-community-engagement-challenge-housekeeping for the latest links :) It's time to leave this beast of a post LOL My computer is beginning to hate me! ha! :D

Thanks for the update. I've got a powerful machine and it's struggling with your post, so thanks for setting up a new page. Now that one can get swamped, lol! Hang on, everybody! :D

NICE! Without reading the post yet I can tell you that you title is catchy! I can't wait to settle in for some reading :)

Thanks. It's something different, at least. Only 5 more to go!

Thanks so much for putting this out. It is a great idea, and highly needed, as it can only grow more quality for the wondersite of Steemit.

This will be a challenge for me, but then that IS what it's titled. So onward and upward we forge into the grand ahead.

Yes! Welcome aboard @ddschteinn!

You're on the official list now! Just a reminder the very end all be all deadline to accept new posts is July 11 at midnight EST. If you've made posts within the challenge time period and forgot to post them here, that will be forgiven. Good luck, have fun and shout if you need help. :)

"And your little dog Toto, too". Such a classic. That witch used to scare the petooee outa me, but not as bad as the flying monks. Thanks, and glad to be aboard. Now I've got to get to work ( :

Way to go @ddschteinn - 2 down, 5 to go!
Are you feeling pretty confident that you'll hit the mark by the 18th? :)

Thanks. Well, it is difficult, whine whine, but I'll keep plugging away. I've only put out 7 in a week once, for my planetary flowers in the color challenge, so it's a steep hill to row. But I'll give it my best. Been commenting away like two gerbils in a wheel tonight...which is great, as I do love commenting ( :
Thanks again for putting this on, it's a great motivation, and wonderful for the site. Full Schteem Ahead

Well, you've got 7 solid days to get 5 more posts done so you can definitely take a day off. Sometimes it's good to step away from the computer :) Just don't forget to come back! LOL

Is it a pre-requisite for Steemit to stay up half the night? Seems to be .

I have discovered when I take a few days off, I lose a bit of impetus, but once I write one thing, the thrill returns quickly. And having people read my stuff for the first time in my life, has been a lot of fun. And inspirational.

Um... My night has passed and I may be working until I see daylight! LOL
Taking time off is usually very hard for me because I have a bit of an addictive personality. I am a workaholic and I drink too much coffee. HA!

I get the biggest thrill when I see conversations going on in my posts. I mean, sure, it's nice to see a post making money, but I get MORE excited by people leaving comments. That's why the comments portion was really an important part of this challenge. It's the life blood of this community. Sometimes we need to be reminded of that.

ddschteinn -- Day 1: Talk Is 'Cheep'

Thanks, I need all the help I can muster. You've just given me an idea for a post, without even knowing it. Such clairvoyance. Have a nice day, I'm sure it will be BUSY!!

10 SBDs donated. :)

You're awesome! Thank you. <3

Greetings @merej99.

Your initiative is commendable. While not intending to snub your competition (and may the best contestant win), I am more of a commentator than a poster and thus shall be giving this a pass.

Even so I feel that, as an individual who is interested in the wellbeing of the Steemit community, you may find a little piece that I wrote about Data Flowers to be of fleeting interest.

All the best with your contest and may it produce the results that you intended.

Hi @pathforger - my ultimate goal is to use this challenge as an opportunity to teach. We need commentators and if you really look at the bones of this challenge, I'm hoping to encourage that (500 posts/comments in 10 days), and also why I recommend limiting to 1 and maximum 2 posts per day. Frankly, when I see the same person posting 10 times a day, I get username fatigue and eventually I'm blind to them, which is a crappy thing to say but I'm being honest.

I started to read your post and it was very poetic at the beginning and then got way cerebral for my mind to concentrate on at 2:30 AM. I promise I'll be back to read it and leave some thoughts. LOL Thank you for leaving your link. :)

Hello @merej99.

That is a noble goal. Thank you again for taking such time and more out of your day to organize this. Also for reminding me that your aim is not to boost post count alone. I now feel a little silly for hastily passing up this opportunity. There is no harm in participating. ^_^

Oh yes. The data flower post does get a little heavy in places - though the mid-section is also serviced with TL/DR bits. ^_^ Thank you kindly for taking a look and I wish you a good night.

I'm so glad you decided to join in the community engagement challenge @pathforger :)

Here's a gentle reminder that you are not obligated to follow or upvote anyone else participating in this challenge unless you want to.
One of the goals is to create quality content 7 of the 10 days. The rest of the time you should try finding "new-to-you" people. Start a conversation with them. It does bring value to the community when you spend time in the field. Best of luck and keep us updated on your progress. :)

Thank you kindly for the guidance and for the reminder @merej99! ^_^

Its actually ironic but it looks like that 500 comment minimum is going to be the toughest to overcome - but I think that I'll manage... :c)

Fair winds!

My post for today.

Falling behind on comments, ironically. :cP

I think thanks to this post I've hit the 100 comment mark in 24 hours. OMG... what didn't get done today? LOL
When I have pickle pits I know it's time to shower. ha!

Well that puts me in my place. ^_^ Its certainly do-able. I guess that I should try not to over-do it on comment comprehensiveness. :c)

Thank you for the encouragement!

My post for today.

People Fall But Ideas Live On

This is also my first 100% Steem Power Post... and I have (almost) 'no' idea what I'm doing! ;cP

100% Steem Power posts are great when SBD or STEEM prices are kind of low. I'm not an economist but by doing this, your earnings are dropped into your long term account (STEEM POWER) and it removes the excess tokens out of the market. If enough people did this, we might actually see value increase again. :)

Thank you for the explanation @merej99 :c)

I must admit that its getting old to see that my upvote worth is but $0.01 :cP

I would also stronger consider a fiat-to-Steem Power transfer (as I understand its not a bad time to do so) but... life. ^_^

At least you are getting to see the needle move even the tiniest bit! When I first started my upvotes were worth $0.001 LOL That was pretty terrible. :P

Wow. Yes that does sound like it was pretty terrible. :c)

By the way, on a different note, is it true that a user needs to accumulate 50 SP in their first month so as to be able to continue using this website without a power up? I ask as I''m still around 3SP after 2 weeks... :cP

My post for today.

The Maltese Islands - Some Benefits of Socialism.

It may make a few people feel jealous.

You're doing a really amazing job! With 4 posts under your belt you only need 3 more to get the post side of things done. How are you doing with the comments? Feeling confident? :)

Thank you. ^_^ I must admit that comments are a source of concern (its kind of my fault for more often than not making mini-posts rather than comments). I'm at almost 150/500 comments. If I keep up this rate I'll may hit 400 by the end of the challenge.

It will be fine. ^_^

My post for today.

Let Me Help You Get a Good Night's Sleep.

I think my funny bone is tingling. :c)

I'm too ill to participate but I did donate 10SBD to make it sweeter.

Thank you, Michael! That's really cool. I still need to get with you about that writing gig. Did I miss the email?

Hello merej99.
I write a Steemit service project. You can participate in a beta test if you reply to this message with "@username". Replace "username" with any one steemer username and remove quotations and anythingelse from the reply. Thanks!

Okay merej99, here the infos:

99.806% of steemers have lower reputation than merej99.
88.967% of steemers signed up later than merej99.
And merej99 signed up on 2016.07.22 at 20:41:45.
Hope that helps!

I moved the service to here :)

Love the idea! Don't have the time for a quality post a day right now. Look forward to seeing the top posts though!

@johnniec - I'm sorry to hear that! Honestly, if I was working full time, this would be HARD but not impossible. Thank you for stopping by though. :) I'm going to swing by your blog page and see what you're up to. < wink >

Thanks @merej99! When I started I was getting out one a night. Living on the West Coast and posting at 11:00 probably isn't the best strategy for reaching people though! I'm enjoying Steemit and during the week trying to focus on the less time-consuming task of searching out good new science and fiction/writing posts! Thanks for posting all the writing/Steemit tips & articles. I just found them through your website and will be sure to put those to use!

LOL - from July 2016 to April, 2017 I barely did anything else but Steemit! Then VIVA happened and I was pretty sporadic for a few months. Finally carving out time to get back into it. This is my home and I want to see people succeed here. The community benefits greatly from dedicated curators too. If this conversation is any indication, I don't think you're stingy with comments either. ;)

great idea. i resteemed this post... so that my follows can read it too..thank you!

That's awesome @lovysteem - there's a 10 day window to get this challenge done. Will you be joining in?

Congratulations @merej99!
Your post was mentioned in my hit parade in the following category:

  • Comments - Ranked 1 with 282 comments

YES! Steemit goal status: ACHIEVED!

I start this contest late because I have not seen it before @merej99
I hope to be able to grow my account in the short time that remains, my contents are in espñol, I hope that does not represent a limitation, thank you very much for the benefit that you offer to the community of Steemit :)

Hello @simnrodrguez - I am sorry but this challenge is now closed to new participants. I do hope to launch a new one soon. :)
There are some great lessons to be learned if you follow along the comments and post threads. I've also been posting a daily diary for our Steemit community to follow along. All best and see you at the next challenge :)

You did not say anything about language, my english skills won`t allow me to reach this challenge, can I write in another language?

Hello @psicomar - the challenge is officially closed to new participants but I would encourage you to follow along the daily posts and interact with the community.

I'm hoping to launch another challenge again soon and there is no restriction on language though it would be difficult for me to personally coach or make recommendations. That's not an impossible hurdle though!

thanks for answering. All right I'll do that. Maybe I could write in both languages in order to give you one of them (english) and the other one for the challenge. You know I dont trust in my english hahaha thank you again, youre so kind

If you like video games 🎮 and funny videos 🎬 of gameplay make sure to follow me and check out my website linked in my profile! 👍🏼 I will follow back and I stay active ❤️ image

Hi @shawmpton, I'm sorry but the challenge is now closed for new entries. Please do follow along as we have a great network of people who are providing sound tips for new Steemians. If you have questions about Steemit, please ask :)

Thank you for this challenge. I'm not quite up to the grand scale of 500 new posts in 10 days, but am inspired to comment and interact more. And perhaps think of some more community challenges.

I ahhh... just did a comments count and pushing 600 comments. OMG. I have no life outside Steemit. bwahahahaaaaa

My mini challenge to myself is to get to a 1000 by the end of the month (215 to go). 214 now!

Oh @hopehuggs, you got that no problemo!
I love giving myself challenges too. It helps keep the motivation going since I'm deadline and task-oriented. LOL

This looks like a really fun challenge, I'm just starting out. Not sure I can catch up on this challenge. I will try next time around once I am more familiar with everything on steemit.

You got it! In the meantime you can follow their progress and pick up some tips along the way. We're here to help.

Thank you so much. I will be following and learning.

Excellent @marinella
And I'm sincere when I say if you have questions, please ask. We're here to help one another in productive ways. :)

I really like this competition. Heck, just reading all of the comments was fun. I'm looking forward to learning more about all the participants and commenting ( . . . my ass off ) in support. Good luck, everyone!!

I'm starting to see you all over the place with some awesome comments! You sure you don't want to join in???
300 word posts aren't that hard...

Where do you find these fun gifs?? Love 'em. Thank you for the nudge, but I really can't commit to writing consistently right now. Have a friend coming into town for a few days, then I'm going on vacation (to visit my mother in Atlanta) in a week or so and have SO much to do to prepare. 300 words isn't a lot, but I still struggle.

I hear you. The struggle is REAL!
I usually get the gifs from http://giphy.com
There are other sites but I kind of stick to this one.
Creative commons pictures and illustrations are generally from http://pixabay.com It's just easier to keep it to a couple sites since I have too many tabs open all the time! LOL

Have a great time with your vacation and visiting friends :)

Looks like I'm late to the party. I do all of this anyway, so I'll just have to let someone else win. :)

You are definitely NOT late @nonameslefttouse! There is a 7 daily posts minimum and the cut off for new people to join is July 11. :) Come on in, the water's fine. Just start a new thread with the screenshot of your header so we can start the comment/post count :)

pssst! Tell This Man it's not too late!
July 11th midnight EST is the end all be all deadline to join the challenge.

This Man hears you!
This Man never knows where This Man will be from one day to the next. Commitments aren't easy for This Man. This Man also spends too much time producing art and makes up for not being able to mingle much by providing a fun atmosphere within This Man's blog. 500 posts will be finished in a few days at the rate This Man directs traffic.

This Man has had a post up nearly everyday for 10 months minus 1 month and 1 week time off. Sometimes two, sometimes three. This Man has always been a very busy man.

This Man decided it would be best if This Man could participate by donating to the prize pool, so This Man did just that.

Please give This Man a huge smooch from me. Try to keep said smooch G rated unless said smooch is delivered by Beloved Dumb Dog, in which case said smooch for This Man may include tongue.

steemutt.png

What an outstanding idea! And an amazing post! I may not be able to do this though. My work schedule is out of control......

I completely understand @michaelstobiersk - I'll be posting updates and good stuff with our progress.
I wasn't expecting this many participants to be completely honest! LOL It's all I can do to keep my head above water catching up with the comments on this post. I'll see if I can swim the Steemit waters and catch a post or two from you too. <3

Hey this is pretty cool thank you for offering it. Being new to steemit just a bit over a month now and doing my best to post quality content and help others things like this lite a little fire under my butt to keep going strong. Thanks!

Indeed @bitcoinflood!
Let's get that screenshot posted and get busy. :) A friend of mine introduced me to Steemit nearly a year ago and when I read the whitepapers I was like "Where have you been all my life???" LOL It has not been easy and we've been through bad times (like 8 cent STEEM) - yet a few of us remained dedicated because it's not always about the earnings - it's about the incredible connections we make. I'm a better person, writer, and artist because of this place.

Excellent competition with rigid guidelines

It'll be good fun with new friends and hopefully a great experience.

Cool idea @merej99 - after reading through the tasks I was happy and also sad as I realized I literally do almost all of those on a regularly basis (save the BS auto comments on my posts) and then thought, wait should I be gaining followers more rapidly....sigh. lol.

Anywho - good luck to all in the challenge. I will be a spectator as there are many other that need 5k delegated SP over me.

Okay @scaredycatguide - I just spent a couple minutes scrolling through your blog page and there are two things that pop out to me so here's some unsolicited advice.
BIG BIG ISSUE: Tags.
I see you're trying to establish a tag for your username and that's fine but do not use #scaredycatguide as your first tag. It's imperative to think hard about the topic of your post and use the most appropriate tag FIRST. WHY? Because...and I don't want to sound rude, just giving a reality here...people will not search https://steemit.com/trending/scaredycatguide They just won't. But your articles deal with money and investing. Those should be your first tag option.

Second issue - not so big as the tag. Appropriate pictures that pop. Think about what catches your eye and holds your attention. When people are scrolling through the thousands of posts on their feed, what makes them pause? A great picture, a catchy title, and finally the first 100 characters of your post. Make them all count.

Cool - appreciate the tips. The tag thing makes alot of sense, surprised I never realized that. Thanks much! :-)

Awesome advice ! Thanks!👍

I'm hoping that this is a residual effect of joining the challenge -- to give some helpful blogging tips along the way and build confidence with our content. Do you remember how scary it was the first time you shared something online? I feel like that moment for me was a million years ago...in Geocities! LOL I was so afraid of being laughed at or rejected but it's been my online family through these many years that have built my confidence and picked me up when I needed it.

oh yes ! I was always worried about it , especially because steemit was the first place I ever blogged at all ! It was all so new to me ! But have much more confidence now thanks ! 👍👍👍

hmmm the first 100 characters of my post huh? You mean what's visible in the feed? I may need to do a re-write there...not a good start. Thank you for the advice...you're wonderful...ya know that @merj99 ?

~smiles fer miles~

first 100 characters of your post are SO IMPORTANT!
Beyond picture and title, it's the 3rd major piece of the scrolling puzzle that sets your post apart from the rest.

Consider how you search for new content. Here's what I do. I scroll quickly for pictures that capture my attention. Then I skim the title. If it all looks good, I read the intro. If that's bad or BLANK I don't bother clicking. Here's the thing... If a person can't spend quality time creating their post, why would I spend my precious time reading it? Something to think about.

You know what I think? No, of course you don't! That's why I'm gonna tell you.
Join in the challenge. It can't hurt! And if it's all right with you, I'm going to take a peek at your blog and see if there's anything I might recommend to help you get more followers.

Loading...

Congrats you made it.

Did I? Cool!

Dang, you scared me. I thought I completely missed it but I see you posted it in you thread. LOL
Okay... We're good. I got you! :D

500 comments per post is high bar, new member only got 5

You read that wrong @fandy. It's 500 comments in total over 10 days. :) Hope you join in the challenge.

wow nice post

@mrblu - you too should read through the post again. It's about community engagement and a big part of that is leaving thoughtful or though-provoking comments.

Great

truly. :)

great to post..

@zacly... love... Read the post again. These are the types of comments you need to break away from. Really.

you do put your cards right out on the table don't you...very inspiring!

@cryptologyx - I have always had the practice of saying what I mean and meaning what I say. I could blame Asperger's but it's a good policy so it lessens the chance of misinterpretation. LOL

I'm much the same way, in my case however misunderstanding is directly proportional to the volume of what I'm saying. And the volume is directly proportional to the number of times I have to say it. Really is a zero sum game.

I think you threw some sort of math at me. :: brain went into automatic shut down :: lol

hahaha :-)

I will upvote you , please you will follow me n upvote me too .

Did you read this post at all? Just curious.

It's definitely gonna be a challenge! 👍🏼

Indeed! Are you joining in? July 17th is the deadline for completion but July 10th is the cut off for anyone new to join.

Wish there was a save button so i can read later. So I will just comment for now.

The best way to save a page is to bookmark it to your favorites. :) There is still time to join.

I'm actually thinking of building something to solve this. A browser plugin. Just haven't had time. If I make it I will post for everyone... I won't be greedy!

I could totally go for a browser plugin for something like that!
I already need an app intervention - may as well abuse my computer too. LOL
