Here's the beauty of business: it changes every day, shifting in a heartbeat from one trend to another. If there will always be a next best thing, why shouldn’t it be yours?
A product or service needs the right mix of ingredients in order to upgrade to the next level, and drive more business your way.
Originality
Let's say you are doing a disruptive type of innovation, where your product is the first of its kind to hit the market. In this case, you need a strong wave of communication directed at the target which the product is addressed to, and a simple, yet effective strategy to explain what that product stands for. Remember that in this case, you are not necessarily addressing a need, but creating one so you have to make a pretty good impression.
Knowledge & Expertise
If your research is up to date and you identified an issue that needs further addressing on the market, then you are on the right track, whether this signifies improving the simplest paperclip design or creating a complex gadget.
Take for instance this simple solution that prevents mosquitoes from bothering you, while also being environment-friendly. Now this fits into the simple solution category I've mentioned earlier. On the other hand, there's the more complex engineering project type, for e.g., a solar car. Basically, this is a self-charging electric car that has photo-voltaic panels incorporated and uses a type of lichen to create the perfect climate. Sounds like a better future is in motion already!
These are both great ideas that have a really big plus: they help us keep our daily habits without damaging the environment.
You've probably figured by now that I'm a fan of Startups and I believe in platforms such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo when it comes to raising funds to bring a great idea to life, so my examples will mostly be from there.
For the examples above, all you need is to know and manage the necessary skills in order to make a feasible business plan. Expertise comes in handy when the questioning begins. That will always help in knowing how to deal with the skeptics, the curious and the enthusiasts who are ready to support your idea and purchase your product in the end.
The right team
Words may not do justice in explaining how important this step is: get surrounded by the right people from the very beginning. Or at least a handful, and then acquire more talent along the way. They can complement your skills, knowledge and expertise, and make the product great in ways that you can't even begin to imagine.
Let's face it: we can't know everything, and it would be a pity for a great idea to have a poor execution or for a great product to have bad marketing. Trust others with your passion and you'll soon see the results of these seeds.
Take this as a journey and enjoy every second of it. It's all a matter of perspective. Trust your team and achieve results together, sharing the burdens and the tasks. Or do it yourself and get lost in the process.
Which will you choose in the end?
