TED Talk Recommendation - The Power of Mindfulness - Shauna Shapiro

in challenge30days •  8 years ago

Today the Universe ( through Youtube recommendations :) brought me this TED talk that got my attention.

I watched it and I liked it so much that I immediately thought: "I need to share this with my Steemian fellows"

As I struggle with a scattered mind and as I've have been trying all kinds of meditation practices along the years, I've found Shauna's presentation uplifting and inspirational, and practical too.

I've resonated a lot with her story about her first try at the mindfulness meditation in a monastery in Thailand! The frustration, impatience and judgement she was experiencing while trying to keep her attention on her breathing, I felt all of that when I first tried to meditate.

The highlights of this video for me are:

  • mindfulness is practicing attention with kindness
  • what you practice grows stronger

You practice judgement, you become more judgemental, you practice kindness, you develop a kind view towards yourself and the world around you. It's so simple, yet so powerful!

Anyways, it's better if you watch it, it's only 13'45''.

Such an interesting spin to mindfulness! Thank you for sharing this. I am writing my #challenge30days about mindfulness, while also trying to get my self into the habit of meditating. Kindness is what has been missing...

You're welcome, glad you liked it. Good luck with the challenge and with meditating with kindness :)
