The VAR was not taken into account for this edition of the Champions League in the group stage. However, UEFA has decided to use it in the competition in this edition 2018-2019 for the round of 16 matches.
Although it had been reported that the use of the VAR in the competition would present a series of difficulties in the operational, logistics and arbitration areas. The VAR will be used at this stage of the competition.
The first matches in which it was implemented were the matches between:

AS Roma - FC Porto and Manchester United - PSG
February 13
Thotenham - Borrusia Dormund and Ajax - Real Madrid
It was in this last game that the VAR annuls the first goal in the history of the Champions League when they invalidated the goal scored by Nicolás Tagliafico when he passed the 37th minute in favor of Ajax.
