Changelings Concept Artwork #5 - Horror Creatures and Transformations

Creature transformation development continues with the #changelingfilm! Let me know what you guys and gals think!

If you want to see some of the initial sketches, here are parts 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Here's the moment the creature we know as Father Smith has his skin fall / melt off to eventually reveal Judith. I particularly like the black and white one. I think it's the contrast that I enjoy. The details seem to pop more in black and white.

We're going through our last round of notes for these drawings. Norm is completing one, final frame that is in between the monster phase and the final Judith phase. We need to see her emerging from the mess of Father Smith in order to more clearly demonstrate the metamorphosis.

SOME OF MY NOTES TO NORM INCLUDED

1. Pull back a little on the frame showing Father Smith ripping off his shirt. We need to see a little more of an in-between here for the transformation, so make the flesh a little less inflamed and a little more flesh toned so we see that the transformation is at a stage just before the skin really begins to bubble up and fall off. I think that'll also help us emphasize the cracks in his skin that we're seeing on his torso.

2. During the explosive frame, add bits of flesh toned bits here or there as well to get a sense of the old skin falling away with the blood and slime.

3. Add a little bubbling of flesh on the right side of Father Smith's face and shoulder like we're seeing in the explosive frame, but shrink it and make it a little more flesh colored so we get a sense that the old skin is beginning it's shedding.

4. Make final pose of Judith more exhausted and looking at us as though the transformation took a lot out of her. Because it would take a lot out of anyone. I want her looking at us so we can emphasize the change in color of her eyes compared to Father Smith, which are brown.

5. Make Judith's new skin look a little new. Maybe a little more pink than average.

FOR REFERENCE INCLUDED SOME PHOTOS OF EXTREME SUN BURNS

Sun burns are incredibly painful and do a surprising amount of damage to skin. I thought that these effects would work as an example of tissue damage that appears superficial at first. Only as the transformation progresses do we realize just how deep the transformation goes and how painful it is every single time it happens.
