The rankings below are based upon data by the A.C. Nielsen Co. The exact numeric rank next to each channel is based on the average number of viewers of the channel that was viewed between 8 and 11 p.m. every night (when the viewing was at its highest) between December 29 2014 until December 16 the 16th of December, 2015. The data also takes into consideration Nielsen's "live-plus 3" data, which measures late watching (up at three or more days from when a program first aired) via DVR and other devices. The rankings are tied to the average viewership of the 18-to 49-year-old population, since this is the segment that advertisers are looking for. The parent companies of cable channels tend to have more power in establishing per-subscriber rates for channels that have younger viewers.
