The DoingWell Project

Decades of civil war in Mozambique has plunged many of its rural villages into extreme poverty.
Traditionally in these villages it is a young woman’s job to collect water in 20L drums from the nearest river or water source. More often than not, this water source is kilometers away and so contaminated that most of us would cringe at the idea of bathing in it.
A woman in these circumstances would need to make this trip 3 times a day to ensure that the village is provided with a sufficient supply of water,
In an effort to provide a certain amount of freedom for these woman and prevent the suffering that comes with water born illness, DoingWell has poured a tremendous amount of energy into providing water purification equipment and digging wells within these villages. The result is clean drinking water that is accessible and will be for generations to come.
What are the benefits of the clean water provided by these bore holes?
- The number of deaths due to diarrhea drops by 21%
- There is sufficient water supply to start growing crops to feed the village
- Allows for basic sanitation which reduces Schistosomiasis by up to 77%
- There are less deaths due to Malaria
- The infant and child mortality rate drops drastically
- Better immune systems and overall healthier bodies
- Improvements are seen in cattle and livestock which leads to better food supply
- The brain and heart are 73% water, increased brain and heart function
Hi, my name is Matthew Klynsmith, welcome to the #DoingWell Project.
Before leaving South Africa to pursue a career in the United States I had the opportunity of working with an incredible group of men and women. Headed by Timothy Maguire this group is the driving force behind DoingWell, a non-profit that digs wells/bore holes and provides water purification to villages primarily in Northern Mozambique.
Every $5,000 we raise here will enable Tim and his team to drill up to 10 bore holes. 1 bore hole will service at least 100 villagers. This is an extremely important calculation because it brings to light that each $5 donation will provide 1 person with clean, accessible drinking water for the rest of their lives.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
Your support means the world to me.
