Steemit looks like the perfect place to present a new thing I've been working on for some time. It's an entirely bitcoin-funded VPS network for people who don't yet have good internet access in places like Africa.
We have two pilot projects, one in Rusinga Island, Kenya, and the other in Bloukrans, Namibia. The idea is to directly fund local groups to enable them to get a good internet connection locally, and to start them off with their own VPS (Virtual Private Server) so they have control over their own internet presence.
With this they'll be able to communicate effectively with the rest of the world, and run whatever software they need. For example they can run OpenBazaar and set up businesses instantly without having to overcome the enormous difficulties that the conventional banker-dominated trade systems require.
100% of funds raised are used directly, no expenses, no fees, no bureaucracy, we just do it. Blockchain also enables us to have full accounting online, down to the last detail in real time.
This is just an introductory article, as I learn more about steemit I'll be able to do a better job here, but in the meantime if anyone would like to help out in any way, please get in touch.
see friendsvps.org or if you want too much detail see the wiki
A lot of work still to be done, would appreciate any advice or comments.
Thanks a lot,
Andy
