Canuck Place Adventure Race 2018: Love lives at Canuck Place

Love Lives at Canuck Place:

I am participating in the 2018 Adventure Race in support of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, would you let me tell you why?

Canuck Place provides life changing pediatric palliative care, loving support and sincere service to my daughter Lumina Jubilee, and others like her. Canuck Place provides respite care for the entire family, 24 hour nursing support, counselling services as well as treasured recreational memory making events throughout the year.

Canuck place makes the life of children with terminal diagnoses better, fuller, more joyous.

What sets Canuck Place apart?

The service they provide is beautiful beyond adequate description, and the best I can say is this:

Canuck Place lives life with us, suffering and crying, walking through difficulty and loss, challenge and doubt, and their service, their work, their love is genuine, obvious and necessarily vulnerable.

Canuck place staff and volunteers hold my Lumina, sing and dance with her, and they laugh and cry with our family. Canuck Place knows the true meaning of love as I see it, Canuck Place lives the sort of love that C.S. Lewis described:

“Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.”
-C.S. Lewis

Conclusion:

Canuck place provides expert professional care, but truth is professionalism is widely available. The real beauty of Canuck Place, their staff and volunteers, is that they are not distant or disconnected, they are invested in our lives. They risk their own heart by coming close, exposing themselves to feel our pain, and in so doing they are able love genuinely and deeply. This vulnerable, genuine commitment is sadly unusual, and is what makes their service, unique, praise worthy and loving.

This is why I say love lives at Canuck Place:
Canuck Place offers not warm wishes and kind words, but meaningful self-sacrificing love, genuinely invested, committed love.
