Today was the big day. Henry's head feels like a tennis ball but he's raised a heap of money.

in charity •  7 years ago

My 8 year old son, Henry has been growing his hair for over a year.

Working the surfer vibe, growing up on the South Australian coast.

Then he heard about the World's Greatest Shave, a national fundraising drive where people choose to shave or colour their hair and chase down sponsorship from friends and family; with the money raised going to help families struggling with Leukemia.
So he decided to get involved.

A local radio station, LifeFM invited him in for an interview, which went really well, and prompted a few more donations.

My original post made 20SBD, which will be added along with liquid rewards from this post, to the donations from other friends, family and some generous steemians (Andrew Hamilton, cheers), currently over $1300, with one week left to go.

So today was the big day, and everything went great.

So a huge thank you to everyone who's supported Henry in this, through donations, upvotes and messages of support. And a special shoutout to his lovely mum, @amandaclarke, who took our sweet little boy's whim and made it real.

A fellow steemian and top bloke, @ratticus is also staring down the clippers, and hoping for some support; so head on over, and slide your bar all the way to the right.
Top effort, mate :)

As always, have a fantastic day

sounds like you have a sweet kid Matt.

I'm very blessed :)

Contributing my upvote to the cause! What a great kid!

Thankyou; we're very proud of him.

nice haircut,, brave boy

I'm really glad to see this, your son is doing a great thing. @ironshield

That's awesome! Good for him. It's so encouraging when kids see a need and just DO something about it. They don't think about how it will affect their social standing or anything, they just help. Good for you guys for raising such a selfless son!

ah, LifeFM have always been pretty supportive when it comes to this sort of thing. I was friends with some of their staff and on air personalities back when the name changed (way back in the mid 90s, before I moved to Perth) and even then they were always willing to spruik good fundraising causes, along with running their own fundraisers

Yeah, I'm not a big radio listener, so don't know them well, but Amanda leaves it glued on 107.9, because it's just nicer, uplifting etc.
Nice girl/DJ, Kit. Very good in the job, put him at ease, and coaxed the shyness out.

I really appriciate this kind effort of this young boy.
and you are lucky to have a son with a golden heart.
it just brings tears to my eyes.
he is a here <3
I just love him.
May God bless him always.
@Amandaclarke want to congrats you too to have a son like him :)

Thank you Abdul. We're very proud of him.

After knowing what he is doing The whole world will proud of him :)
I too proud of him.

While my first fundraising post has paid out, I will be doing another one at some point. First we get Henry to his goal and then kick on to push towards my goal

Fantastic work @henryclarke you've done an amazing thing for such a great cause:) I've shared this post with my followers so we can raise this generous donation even higher mate.

Thanks o07 :)
Thanks for putting those monkeys on my desk, too. They're home, safe.

It's hard to look like a tough kid when your mum is kissing you. lol
Well done, Henry!

He grew it long to hide some of the prison tatts.

What a fantastic little human!! So refreshing to see someone so young thinking of others, great work Henry!!!

Great to see our youth taking part in helping the ill. It's a fun way to raise money and it's a good experience for later in life.

Wow, what a step. Such kindness acts by innocent hearts have kept the humanity alive. Proud of Henry.
By the way, he looks even cuter as bald. :)
May he be succeeded in all future endaevours.

Fantastic work Henry! You’ve raised a great kid @mattclarke. You have every reason to be a proud Dad. :)

I sure am. Two more to be proud of as well. You should see Henry's minecraft creations.
He's doing this underwater scene at the moment, using all these aftermarket plug-in tools and extensions.
Not even 8 and he's on the cusp of coding. It'll serve him well in the future we got coming :)

Wow.. that is insane. I’m convinced that knowing coding languages will be the norm at some stage.

wow he is a very lovely cute child with a great heart <3 love him for his great thoughts :) great job

Woah! What an amazing kid you’ve got! Awesome for growing the hair and awesome for shaving it!

Thanks mate. Lots to be proud of there :)

Amazing values to be taught at such a young age! Bravo Henry!

That's really nice of him to do. And he can always grow his hair out again! :)

Nice one Henry!

How's he liking the new hairdo? Not as much surfer dude but less hassle for sure!

Yeah, he loves it. Had a swim in grandma's pool afterward and said it was nice to not have to flick it out of his eyes when he pops out. His head feels eerily soft and spiky.

Less time with the hairdryer means more time for other stuff!

Lovely boy doing great work here is my contribution my upvote with you keep it up yiure doing great job 😊

Thankyou, mate :)

This is such a cool post. He looks really confident and composed in his radio interview.

Thanks :)
I think he was a little nervous; but he hid it well and forged on through.
Great support for his brother today, first day of school.
So proud of them all.

Epic work Henry! Love the minecraft shirt. :)

what an unusual and grown-up decision as for a 8-year old boy..
children always do what they see in their family, so this topic isn't new for him, and your family is involved in such activities, am I right?
I am surprised and impressed, really..
so did he raise 1500$?
great result ! his hair costs expensive.
btw it was very nice)

woooo you go boy!

What a handsome and good-hearted young man you have! Great job dear!

very good, good luck always. I have a new post do not forget to visit my blog.

If anyone is auditing this; the two posts garnered 32 SBD in total.
I sent 35 SBD to @o07 who paid AU$150 to Henry's donation page on behalf of The steemit Community.

A smart and loving child

woow.. very nice photography...very sweet...i like this moment.. thanks for sharing..
