in charity •  6 years ago

The foundation of any organization is its board of directors. These people are the heart and soul of an entity - their passion and commitment leads the way and directs the future. Today, let's meet the Secretary of the FairCosa Foundation, Rebecca Crew.

Mission

To provide unique opportunities to individuals
from historically underprivileged communities
to aid in improving quality of life through
education, training, and community development.

Rebecca is an independently licensed social worker with 15 years of experience in individual, group, and family therapy. She has been working with families who are facing tough situations for her entire career and understands what it is like to feel like you are up against a wall. She has experience in foster care and adoption, crisis management, juvenile court, children and family services, and assessments and therapy. She is very family focused and believes that when a person in a family needs support, they should be able to find it. That is why she believes in the mission and vision of The FairCosa Foundation; everybody makes mistakes and deserves a chance to prove themselves.

Rebecca brings a bright personality to The FairCosa Foundation. Her enthusiasm for our mission and genuine empathy for the people we serve is reflected everyday in her efforts to further our cause.

I seen in the comments that it's in the USA only right now. But is this kind of service available online as well? Thinking perhaps people who are looking for help in areas where it isn't provided could get the help needed, even if the type of therapy is just through chatting.

I'm really not sure. I know in the USA that incarcerated individuals aren't allowed to have access to the Internet, so online based programs wouldn't reach them. They do get phone privileges, although I believe they are quite expensive.

Once released, I know there are multiple therapy type services that are available online - such as suicide prevention, chronic depression, and even medical screenings and advice. I've found that many folks who have been incarcerated for long periods of time don't know how to navigate the current digital technology, so working to bring them up to speed on 'the cloud' and other new systems would be incredibly helpful.

Oh I missed the part of it being for incarcerated people. Eek! LOL.

I have to say that its a great service for those people. I can't imagine what it is like for them in there.

Incarcerated folks are just where we are going to start. There are a lot of people who have "dropped out" of society for one reason or another, and it can be next to impossible to get back in. Once we launch our first project, we're going to begin focusing the next one on helping veterans return to civilian life after the military. Currently, 22 vets commit suicide every day in the USA. Part of that is due to a lack of good support and assistance reintegrating into 'normal' life. I'm not sure what we'll come up with to address that, but we'll come up with something.

You blow my mind! Honestly this is the best thing ever! If I were there, I would sign up to help. Good for you and those that are included. Saints!

Thanks for the support! It means a lot to us. :-)

Also, there may be opportunities to help from a distance if you are interested. I'm not sure what they may be right now, but the Internet makes lots of things possible that weren't before.

Just popping in to say hi

Why hello there!

This is really nobel thing of you all to be doing! Everyone in this foundation deserves love and more love! You guys are awesome!

Thank you! It's still just getting started, but we have to start somewhere.

That's okay! Just keep going. =)

Thanks for the support! :-D

that baby is just too cute

good luck with the organization, is this in the USA only?

btw, I think Zord made the footer, no?

Thanks! For now, yes, it's just in the USA. We are just beginning and getting ready to launch our first program.

And yes, Zord made the footer. The logo I was referring to was The FairCosa Foundation logo. Jaynie was so kind as to donate her time and talents to create it just for us! :-D Perhaps I should make that more clear with all the action going on at the bottom of the post.

Awesome. I love that you're highlighting the key people involved. Rebecca looks like a real caring person. Perfect for having on your team.

Thank you! Yes, she is a great team member! We are fortunate to have her.

That "picnic" photo is adorable! Love it so much! 😊

Thanks! Rebecca is very family focused. :-)

People like Rebecca are true gems! I had a few friends go into social work after college and they didn't last long in the field because it was so challenging to see some of the dire situations some families and children are in. I'm sure she brings a lot to the table of your foundation!

Yes, social work can be quite challenging. I've heard it referred to as heart work because it both comes from the heart and affects it as well.

We are so fortunate to have her onboard!
