A few decades ago it was thought that in the 21st century poverty would no longer exist. The plans and charitable projects, which faced this tragedy, predicted the end of poverty. But after several years of struggle, we see that although societies have evolved and we have more economic power and development, misery has not been defeated.

We can see poor children living in poverty together with expensive cars and luxury homes. Understanding the complexity of poverty and the interrelation that exists between economic and social spheres is key to change.

Every 3 seconds a child dies on the planet, as a result of poverty ,
according to the UN.

The children are the most vulnerable to poverty , social group , and we must protect them .
The huge number of poor children in the world reveal a very different situation to that of an adult living in poverty. Their situation is a total lack of conditions to reach their growth and potential, the denial of their rights and being exposed to danger and the environment.

When we see images of poor children on television, in newspapers or on websites we can see that despite living in poverty, with deficiencies, such as drinking water or lack of access to health, education, food basic or a place to live, they keep a smile

Poverty in the third world Economy

The definition of Third World, comes from the differences of existing sides in the two World Wars and in the Cold War, the First and Second World corresponding to the two formed blocks, and the Third to all the excluded areas of these two.

Another way to define poverty in the Third World is through the term underdeveloped countries, which affects the backwardness or lack of goods necessary to subsist in certain geographical areas.
But these expressions, out of historical parallels, are strongly characterized as implicit in one of the most serious situations that the human being can suffer: poverty .

Poverty manifests itself in the impossibility of accessing basic goods and resources for human survival. Aspects such as food, housing, access to health, education or the provision of drinking water, are some of the shortcomings that poverty makes evident.
If we unite both terms we find one of the most depressing and obvious evils of the century, such as poverty in the Third World. Therefore, this expression alludes to areas or situations that suffer a gradual backwardness in economic and social terms, dragging a few vital expectations.

But the poverty in which these countries live immersed is not the only obstacle they have in their evolution. Characteristics such as the high level of unemployment and corruption, social and economic inequalities among inhabitants, high external debts, high mortality rates or the scarce technological development, make the eradication of poverty in underdeveloped areas or the Third World practically a chimera.

Some of the direct consequences of poverty in the Third World and underdeveloped countries are:

  • The war conflicts and guerrilla movements

  • Famines

  • Political and social instability

Measures to Eradicate Hunger and Poverty

Eradicating Hunger to Combat Poverty is the main commitment for the Millennium Development Goals in 2015 , through the adoption of measures that halve the number of people suffering and suffering from hunger.
This extreme manifestation of lack of resources of first necessity, constitutes a violation of fundamental human rights , by depriving so many people of their food, the basic foundation of their survival and existence.
Government plans must establish action measures and policies to eradicate poverty, which is the main cause of hunger and international social vulnerability.

Some of these measures involve trying to recover and increase agricultural productivity, improve the sustainable use of natural resources , increase research in areas most affected by hunger and poverty ....

In this sense, it is essential to be aware that around 75% of the population that coexists with hunger and poverty, does so in rural areas where agriculture becomes practically the only means of subsistence . Therefore, it is necessary to emphasize the improvement of agricultural conditions, from measures that optimize the fertility of the lands: enhancing biodiversity, avoiding overexploitation of forests and wild species and an efficient use of water; until the implementation of sustainable production technologies that make all these actions possible.

We can affirm that the fight against poverty goes through an urgent eradication of hunger, through the agrarian policies described and through support to rural communities ravaged by hunger. If these measures are met, they could bring with them an important advance to eradicate poverty and as an added benefit, important global benefits in the economic aspect, due to a more than probable increase in the demand for goods and services, among other effects.

Acting immediately to provide access to food for those most affected by hunger, as well as creating opportunities for the affected areas, are two of the key measures to eradicate the problem.

We can make this possible from NGOs, university institutions, foundations, the civil population to international financing institutions, governments and parliaments, and the important weight that the private business sector already adds.
