I adopted a gorgeous dog call Meggie in February 2017. We found out that when she was fostered her fur was matted, she had rotten teeth and was v unsociable. She was taken in by Helping Pets, who had her groomed, had her teeth sorted, given injections and put into foster care. I found her picture on the Helping Pets facebook page and fell in love with immediately.
When we visited her we found out that all dogs, cats and rabbits in foster are actually looked after in willing volunteers own homes. They take in strays, feral cats and any animal who is not wanted. They love this animals as if they were there own spending their money on them to give them a good life whilst waiting for their forever home.
This inspired me to want to help them and hopefully raise some money to help them.
In July I walked 26km to raise money for them and raised £428. I was amazed at how generous people were.
Since then I have been volunteering for Helping Pets. I have set up a bonus ball facebook page where we give prizes for winners who match the bonus ball number that saturday for £1 a number.
I also email companies asking not for money, but items that we can use for raffle prizes.
Once a month I also hold a table top sale of donations to also raise money. Every penny goes to helping pets.
To conclude, Meggie came into out house and she met out other dog Petra. We left her to do her own thing. To settle in, in her own way. She is now a happy, gorgeous little girl who we feel like we have had for years not just a few months.
There are so many dogs, cats and rabbits looking for their forever homes and it may take forever to them homes, but we dont care. We will do everything in out capacity to help all pets.
I feel proud that the little bit that I do helps them in a small way and cannot thank them enough for bringing Meggie into our lives.
