Clearly the jury was pressured unless they've been living in a cave on Mars for the last several years.

In one sense, I do believe that justice was done in the Chauvin case. In another sense, we're glossing over a series of horrifying injustices.

We all know what would happen if the verdicts went any other way.

Despite how untoward Maxine Waters' statements were, which weren't particularly cryptic in support of violence if Chauvin were found not guilty of any charge, Waters comments were never needed--cities would burn, innocent people would be assaulted, they'd see their livelihoods destroyed, I have no doubt that there would be bloodshed. Obviously, the jury knew that.

The jury also knew that eventually their identities would become known to the public. They knew that if they found any other way that they'd be taking their lives into their own hands. We live in a society wherein people will defend doxing so long as the person being doxed holds a different worldview. Of course, the jurors could expect phone calls from people who would like to remind them that they know where their children go to school.

The Sword of Damocles was being held above our heads since before the trial even started.

We claim to be fighting for justice when engaging in injustice ourselves. This component of our culture needs to be removed. We can't have real justice if we're being told, "Turn in this verdict or we'll burn it down."
