After a trip around the world to learn more about what economics feels like for everyone, economist D. Archer had met a British dentist, 2 Spanish housekeepers, one Romanian window cleaner, two Moroccan window cleaners, an American gardener, three Spanish doctors, three British psychologists, a Moroccan GP, a Saudi surgeon/doctor, two British surgeons/doctors, a Mexican singer, a Mexican martial artist (both female).
D. Archer had also recently met a woman in Valencia who had said she was Catalan. There had been false rumors that she may have had Russian ancestry. More likely, she may have had a Russian suitor. There were people from at least 20 different nationalities there with various overlapping cultural identities, stemming from the globalization trend in the 90s creating an interconnected world.
There were all fond of talking to D. Archer about economic developments, but were never in the same room. D. Archer decided to invite them all to his vacation home for Christmas celebrations -- he missed his friends.
It turned out that there were many cultural differences, and no one could agree on anything, starting from what presents are socially appropriate to what the most important economic issue is. Also, at some point a long family history of grievances appeared. Some just wanted to sweep it under the carpet.
In a strange turn of fate, infamous P. Kissinger's daughter had been invited to the party as a +1. She was very sociable and in the most diplomatic manner possible somehow enabled everyone to feel better.
After some time, a new style of effective communication emerged: whenever there was a disagreement about how to move forward together despite cultural differences, they'd check in with each other, discuss reasonable proposals for spiritual growth, pray to God or contemplate the eternal feminine -- understanding other people's perspectives took some time. Eventually, the person who didn't seem to be able to accommodate others' perspectives due to their own prior failures of judgement were offered a choice: read a book to learn something new or go on a journey of self-improvement. Sometimes there were outbursts that made women feel unsafe, so there were scientific missions to the ISS to confirm or deny claims of truth (about what happens in low-gravity science), at least one trip to Mawson - an Antarctic research base, as well as trips to the spa to relieve stress. Finally, somehow everyone felt better together through respect and forgiveness and the good grace of the higher powers.
