- Chelsea finally has a new owner. An offer worth US$5 billion or around Rp 72 trillion from a consortium of investors led by Los Angeles Lakers shareholder Todd Boehly was finally accepted.
Chelsea management, according to a CNN report, announced a deal with Boehly on Friday local time. In addition to the Lakers stock owner, Boehly is a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club and the Los Angeles Sparks women's basketball club.
Chelsea said the sale process would be completed this month, "subject to regulatory approval".
A press release on Chelsea's website states: "Of the total investment, £2.5 billion or US$3.08 billion will be used to buy shares. The funds will be deposited in a bank account in the United Kingdom which is currently frozen, which is planned to be donated. entirely by Roman Abramovich. Transfer of funds out of the account must be subject to the approval of the government of the United Kingdom."
Furthermore, Chelsea's new owners are committed to investing 1.75 billion pounds or around US $ 2.16 billion for the club's operations. This includes investments in Stamford Bridge (Chelsea's home stadium), football academy, women's soccer team, Kingsmewadow (Cheslea training facility), and the Chelsea Foundation.
