Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed he learned that he had been sacked by Napoli after seeing the news on TV.
The Italian took charge at Stamford Bridge this summer after the Naples club cut short his time in charge and replaced him with Carlo Ancelotti after he had asked for some time to consider his future.
Sarri was released from the final two years of his contract after a protracted legal dispute, which meant he could then take charge of Chelsea.
The 59-year-old had led Napoli to their highest-ever points total last season and narrowly lost out on the Serie A title to Juventus.
Despite the incredible achievement, Sarri has explained how he found out he had been dismissed at the same time that it went public.
‘It’s true, I found out that I wasn’t the Napoli coach anymore by seeing it on television,’ he told Il Mattino.
‘I had some doubts, that’s fair, but there was a clause in the contract and it wasn’t something I had asked for. It was not respected in the timing. Now I hope that Ancelotti can achieve what I came so close to.’
