Real chemistry

Just wanted to introduce myself to this nice community. I’m a 4th yeah graduate student in chemistry doing some research on several anti cancer and anti microbial drugs.

I work doing a lot of bioinorganic complexes and materials. I love my work and every now and then I come across a cool synthesis or product. In my research I work with luminescent complexes of various metals including Rheniun, Manganese, Rutheniun, Gold, and Silver. Besides making complexes I incorporate these metalorganic drugs into biocompatible materials for its delivery directly into where it’s needed to minimize side effects.

I won’t bore you with the details unless you ask me to. All I want to do is share some of the cool stuff I have come across so far in my research. I can try and post regularly, however it’s not every day that I come across something worth showing.

This is a set of compounds all slightly different but yet no real change in fluorescence. Kinda disappointing!

This one was one of my first fluorescent Ligands which showed fluorescence quenching upon silver binding. (This one got me my first decent paper!!)

Here it is that same complex with and without silver. Notice that when you add silver there is no fluorescence! This allows for the tracking/sensing of silver ions.

These up here are a luminescent Rheniun complex (orange). Once you shine light it releases carbon monoxide (yes carbon monoxide) which interestingly enough it kills cancer selectively (ask me).

I do a lot of microbio too. Me and my friend were kind of sick one day so we decided to cough on some extra agar plates that we had and threw them in the incubator. These bacterial colonies grew over night lol kinda gross.

Anyways I have a lot more pictures, and can share them if you guys want me to. Once I post all my older pictures I can update you on my most current research which honestly I believe it’s the best work I have done so far.

Besides doing this kind of work I’m really into music. In specific I listen to mostly trance and some techno. I do like a lot of generes but if you see my playlist that’s what you’ll find. I do go out to a lot of music festivals and club events as well.

So I’ll keep this post short, I just wanted to share a bit of what I do.

If you made it this far thank you for reading and have a good day/night! Cheers! -mp

Edit: forgot to mention these are all my pictures taken with my cellphone.
