Real Chemistry #3 Continuing with silver

Welcome to my world of chemistry!

This series of pictures of my chemistry work captured with my phone. All these photos I own and I have not shared them anywhere else but here.

In this post I present you some of my work identifying silver chelating ligands that demonstrate fluorescence quenching upon silver binding.

It’s a tedious task to screen through hundreds of compounds looking for the right one! Took me several weeks to finally be able to find a decent ligand that had the correct properties. Above you can see some of the ligands I previously tried. Although beautiful only one of them worked. They are all BODIPY derivatives with minor alterations to include a silver binding site.
