1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e5 3.dxe5 Ng4

Black aims to get his pawn back, and then he might get a slightly worse position.

4.Nf3 Nc6 5.Bf4 Bb4+ 6.Nbd2

Better is 6.Nc3

6...Qe7 7.a3 Ncxe5

Here black "sacrifices" his bishop.

8.axb4

[8.Nxe5 Nxe5 9.Bxe5 Bxd2+ 10.Qxd2 Qxe5 And black should have a decent game.]

8...Nd3#

And here white lost, this mating idea of smothering the opponent occurs very frequently in openings, rarer in games though.

Today I also have a little opening trap for you, it is not a full game, though it probably would end there, and probably has been played.

[Result "*"]

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5

The French Defense

3.e5 c5 4.c3 Nc6 5.Nf3 Qb6

This is the main line of the advanced variation.

6.Bd3

This move introduces a gambit, now let us see what happens upon taking the pawn immediately.

6...cxd4 7.cxd4 Nxd4 8.Nxd4 Qxd4 9.Bb5+

This is not very good, black has just been careless and dropped his queen.

9...Bd7 10.Bxd7+ Kxd7 11.Qxd4
