Was there anyone that actually believed Smollett when he made his ridiculous claims however long ago it was? You don't know to know a lot about almost anything to realize that Chicago is far from a conservative city. The people who live there always vote against their own best interests and elect the same failed leadership over and over again because the Democrats have played the race card so well in places like the Windy City. The idea that two burly white guys with MAGA hats on attacked a gay black man while he was walking home from Subway was just absurd right from the start.
It was also politically motivated just like everything was back then. The liberal media saw this as an opportunity to attack Trump as if he was one of the two people that had been on the street that night.

When police responded to the initial call back in whatever time it was, the dude kept the noose around his neck the whole time as some sort of "proof" that a hate crime was committed against him. Another question is why did they blur out his face? At that point it was already pretty evident who it was in the body-cam footage.
The idea that a couple of conservatives would be walking around the streets of Chicago at 2am looking for someone to beat up just because they are black is just nuts. I've been to Chicago a couple of times and you don't have to look very far to find a black person. Even if there was a roaming duo of MAGA hat wearing racists the chances that they just happened to come upon someone who is a minor celebrity would be extremely small.
I think almost anyone with any sense of brain activity could see right through this once it hit the news but of course, all the news stations immediately jumped all over this because it had some opportunity to make Trump look bad. These 2 people, who hadn't even been identified yet, were already guilty in the court of public opinion and by extension Trump may as well have done the attack himself.
It looked like a setup right away and as it turns out according to the two people that dressed up and played out this scene for Jussie, that's exactly what it was.

There is a lot of talk about how he was trying to get more notoriety attached to his name in order to get a higher salary on the show Empire where he was making something alone the lines of the average annual salary of most Americans per episode. The entire thing blew up in his face and he was fired from the show outright and now basically no one will touch the guy as far as acting is concerned. Talk about a massive backfire!
Now he is found guilty of 5 out of 6 counts of something or other and they are felonies that can carry jail time with them. Most experts agree that there is little to no chance that Jussie is going to serve any time but there will likely be a civil suit to recoup the nearly $150,000 that the city of Chicago spent investigating a completely made up situation.
Jussie is a scumbag that tried to use the rather insane political situation that exists around race in the USA to his own personal benefit and I am only a bit confused as to why it took the jury 9 hours to come to a decision. Now we have to wait and see if the politicians and liberal news pundits that immediately called this out as a hate crime against Jussie, without knowing any evidence, are going to retract their statements. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one... instead they will just remove the posts and Tweets and pretend as though they never said it.
Jussie hasn't been sentenced yet, but the right thing was done today. His career is over as well and I don't know if that is a shame or not. I never watched him act so I don't even know if he was any good. I do know that making Hollywood money is a dream for most people and it was only through his own idiocy and greed that he now will never get a chance to move up the ladder that for almost everyone else is just a pipe dream.
Congratulations idiot! You already were at the mountaintop but instead of being content with that you self-sabotaged. There was no hate crime, their was a hate-crime hoax. It's time to come clean and apologize because I would be surprised if there is a single person out there, even your own family members, that believe what this guy has said happened to him.
My question is will there be riots and claims of racial inequality over this ruling and probably some comparison to the Kyle Rittenhouse trial? There's zero connection between the two but for liberal wack-jobs facts don't really matter a great deal. It's probably already happened, I don't pay much attention to traditional social media and only ever see Tweets if someone fwd's one to me.
Demand for hate crimes is lower than the supply, so...

indeed. I don't think there really all that many hate crimes. Well, not the kind that the media are looking for anyway.

I just perused leftist media on this matter. It is curiously bland, not at all the outburst of indignation I expected, so the left does know this was a farce. But they are not blaming themselves by any means. This bit from the NYTimes shows that they are still trying to qualify this event, so that the left takes no blame

The NYT will never admit fault, even when they do it's buried somewhere that no one is ever going to see it.

The guy is a complete idiot and I hope his entire career is destroyed over this.

I think that is probably already done. There might be a nutjob or two out there that are riddled with TPS that will throw him a bone from time to time but for the most part, I think he has screwed himself big time with this.
