The average price of a dozen large eggs is now up to $4.823 as of January. That's probably the peak we'll see. Prices have generally stabilized in recent weeks. As for the avian flu outbreak. We are over 58 million affected birds. Cases appear to be slowing in recent months. Though we'll have to be on the lookout in the coming months.

There have been outbreaks among farmed mink that have alarmed people. But note that mink have receptors in their upper respiratory tract that allow for easier infection by the circulating avian flu. Humans lack the same receptor. There have been only 7 human cases globally among people exposed to poultry. There have been no cases of human to human transmission.

Also note that the CDC has a candidate vaccine virus for the circulating virus that has been shared with vaccine manufacturers in the event that a vaccine would be needed. But the risk to humans from this avian flu is currently very low.
