Before he made any comments about his wife, he talked about his own role as a husband and father being the most important thing in his life. That wasn't controversial. Somehow, saying the same thing about his wife is?
I think it was a misstep in language when he made the "homemaker" comment; but, a great many people, especially religious people, value that kind of family structure. A lot of people wish that more families of our younger generations had the means to sustain a nuclear family on one income. He also prefaced his "homemaker" comment by mentioning that a great many women in the room will go on to have lucrative and fulfilling careers. He didn't say that to put anybody down, or to say that women shouldn't have ambitions. You have to be actively digging for malic in order to read his statement that way.
Still, okay, you don't like his values. Fine. I don't share many of his values. I'm not catholic. I'm also not a toddler who can't handle listening to somebody who has different values than me to the point that I want him fired. I think Colin Kaepernick is an aggressive moron; but, I defended him.
But, ya know what, if you're one of these people who wants Butker released from the Chiefs over this speech, I hate your values.
First of all, you clearly don't value free speech. If you believe that a guy who values monogamy, the nuclear family disqualifies him from kicking a ball, you're either a moron or a fascist or both. I mean, it's not like he was calling for legislation to bring back discrimination of women in the workplace.
But, what's more, I don't recall any of you who are freaking out about Butker saying a damn thing about DeShaun Watson getting the most player-friendly contract in NFL history while facing dozens of accusations of sexual misconduct and abuse.
It's not exactly a secret that there's a tendency among professional athletes to bang as many women as they can get their hands on -- which is usually a lot -- father a bunch of children with a bunch of different women, and the only relationship that they have with any of the kids is the child support check.
People are freaking out over Butker's speech more than they did when Kareem Hunt kicked a woman. Really? You're more offended by what Harrison Butker said, as a catholic, to a catholic audience, than you are by the chronic problems of professional athletes using and abusing women?
Get your fucking priorities straight.
